Charlie Sheen Has Angered A Society of Warlocks

article written by: Andy Green
From: http://www.forkparty.com/

So, just when you think your brain couldn’t possible force in any more glorious Charlie Sheen winning, the internet goddess shines upon those of us who really don’t have much to do and from her tantalizing nether-regions squeezes out a golden game-changing egg filled with awesome like this.Charlie Sheen’s comparison of himself to the warlock community has set off a fiery seed within these harbinger’s of might and magic. Nay, shall they tolerate the insolence of someone who does not understand what it is to control the cosmos that goes around saying things that make “REAL” warlocks look silly!

A group of obviously unemployed mystics of the craft from Salem, Massachusetts performed a ceremony in which they “intervened” in Charlie’s use of the term “Warlock.”

Well, little do they know..that Charlie Sheen is not only a real warlock… he is one of the mightiest warlocks in the galaxy. Fueled by enough cocaine tiger’s blood to obliterate three solar systems.

Charlie Sheen continues his centuries long march across the sands of time to fulfill the curse placed upon his head by some mightier warlock…probably Gary Busey. This curse that sentenced Charlie to an insatiable zombie-like desire to bang as many prostitutes as possible while on the search for the ultimate state of mind.

So Salem warlocks/virgins, in the words of Iron Maiden — RUN TO THE HILLS… RUN FOR YOUR LIVES! You have tried to impose your will on the face of the almighty Sheen… and he proclaims with an echo through the mountains and a crash of lightning through the sky — “IT’S ON!”

March Madness Live Streaming Comes to iPad

By Jeremy Repanich
From http://www.wired.com/

From every NCAA men’s basketball tourney game being broadcast in its entirety for the first time, to free live streams of each matchup on the web and iOS devices, the second half of March is pretty much booked for college basketball fans. Hopefully, their loved ones and bosses will understand.

Last year the NCAA signed a new deal with CBS and Turner Sports to share the tournament broadcast rights for the next 14 years. So starting this season, in addition to watching games on CBS, fans can tune in to TBS, TNT or truTV to catch the game they want to see most. Turner Sports also built on the existing March Madness On Demand online platform and Apple’s iTunes Store — to create live streams with enhanced statistics and social media integration for every contest, from the play-in game through the Final Four.

The result is a fan-friendly experience that lets you watch any game anywhere, which means streaming at work for many of us in those first couple days of March Madness. Luckily, the life-saving Boss button (clicked 3.94 million times during the 2010 tournament) is back to hide our viewing from disapproving superiors.

During the 2010 edition, 8.3 million unique viewers watched or listened to 11.7 million hours of online streams of the NCAA tournament. And 575,000 users saw the 2010 Duke-Butler championship online, a meager fraction of the 48.1 million people who caught the game on TV, but still a 70-percent increase compared to 2009. Michael Adamson, vice president of new products and services for Turner Sports, didn’t offer projections for this year to Wired.com, but he does expect an uptick in viewers. That’s why his company been working to reserve backend bandwidth to ensure consistently smooth streaming for fans.

But the online experience wasn’t created just to kill our productivity at work. Turner Sports and the NCAA want you to log on at home, too, so it won’t just be a video stream. “One of our goals for this was to make March Madness On Demand a complement and a companion to watching the games on TV,” said Turner Sports senior VP Matt Hong.

Turner Sports crafted the interface with the knowledge that even when at home watching the games on TV, millions of sports geeks still have their computers Nearby. With MMOD, you’ll be able to queue highlights while the game is still in progress; enter your location and cable/satellite provider to find out which channel each game is on; track stats like team leaders, scoring streaks, biggest lead and foul trouble; and follow the buzz around the bracket with the social media interface, a new feature that Turner is pushing this year.

“There’s no question that the big buzz around the last two big live events — the Super Bowl and the Academy Awards — has been the impact of social media, and we wanted to tap into that,” Adamson said. “We’ll have people scouring social media services, paying attention to hashtags, to posts, to trends and being engaged every day.”

Each game will have a dedicated social media hub accompanying the live stream with producers populating a feed drawing on commentary from the sideline reporters, Twitter, Facebook and the rest of the web. However, users won’t be able to directly input comments into the feed, so you’ll still need to tweet or update your Facebook status and hope the producers see it if you want your two cents added to the conversation.

In Wired.com’s hands-on test of March Madness On Demand on an iPad, a laptop and an iPhone 4, those social media functions weren’t available through iOS apps, but you were able to tweet or post to Facebook without having to leave the app. Additionally, statistics are better integrated into the service’s web-based version, because checking game stats on the mobile apps shuts off the live stream. Then, switching back cues an ad to run before the game resumes and negatively affects the video resolution as the stream re-buffers. Despite these small quibbles, the interfaces work quite well with solid video streaming that looked great — even in full-screen mode.

The best new feature? Unlike last year, the mobile streaming apps are free.

Unfortunately, there’s bad news for Android users: Turner didn’t develop an app for their phones or tablets. Instead, it focused attention on Apple’s iOS and extending to the iPad. But Adamson assured Wired.com that Turner plans to develop for Android in the future, and that because Android supports Flash, you can access the streams through your web browser like you would on a PC.

Now that you know you’ll have every game at your fingertips and on your big screen like never before, you’ve been given the blessing and curse of being even more dialed in to the gut-wrenching ups and downs of your bracket. Just remember the immutable law of the office NCAA pool: The person who knows the least about college basketball will most likely win. So have at it, Bracketologists.

Imagine a contest based around sliding a beer down a table with the object being to drink as many beers in the shortest amount of time possible. This is a three round, two teams at a time, head-to-head contest with a scoring structure that awards extra points for catching beers a pint glass by the handle and doing a spin move beforehand. Yeah, you get the idea…an adult-beverage-fueled-kick-ass-contest. This is Gelande Quaffing.
Gelande Quaffing is an old Jackson Hole Air Force game that started back in the 80′s when a beer was slid down the bar at a local Jackson Hole watering hole and a JHAF member, acting on instinct, caught the pint moments before the beer hit the ground.

Carnival Season for 2011 is nearing its end. All over the world, celebrations are held as a final party before the fasting of Lent, as a way to usher out the winter and welcome spring. Across Europe and the Americas, parades and festivals have been taking place for nearly a month, culminating in the largest, most famous party of all: the Carnival in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The festivities in Rio continue until tomorrow, March 8th. Gathered below are images from the past several weeks of carnivals around the globe.

The iPad Stand That Attracted Over $100k Funding From Fans on Kickstarter

We had so many people sending us tips about the PadPivot stand today that I was beginning to suspect the designer had signed up for a multitude of alternative email addresses. Until I looked at Kickstarter, and saw that the $10,000 goal had been exceeded—by $106,426, with five days still to go.

At the time of writing, 2,851 people have backed the fundraising venture, pledging $116,426 to the cause. That's a lot of people desperate for an easier way to hold their tablets. The PadPivot doesn't just work with iPads, claims the designer, with all sorts of tablets and ereaders fitting in the stand's slot of sticking to the washable adhesive grap.

Take a look at the video below for examples of how the pivot works, on thighs and flat surfaces. I particularly like the way you can tilt the iPad for gaming, when it's used as a leg-brace. Most clever!

It'll be available from April, once the generous backers' money has been put towards manufacturing the stand.

[Kickstarter - Thanks to everyone who sent this to us!]

Color-Coded Plastic Ties Tell You Day Your Bread Was Baked

Turns out that the plastic tags and twists on loafs of bread aren't just for looking pretty, they are coded to indicate what day the bread was baked on, writes Wise Bread. The most commonly-used code for 5-day a week delivery is is blue for Monday, green for Tuesday, red for Thursday, white for Friday, and yellow for Saturday. It's a nifty "and now you know" factoid, though it probably won't save you from getting a stale loaf, because the shelf stockers for whom the code was designed are already doing that for you.

New Music From Broken Bells

by: ROBIN HILTON
From: http://www.npr.org/

Fortunately we don't have to wait long for more new music from the duo. The two plan to release a new, four-track EP on March 29 called Meyrin Fields. It includes the strutting, spaghetti-western-electro–rock-and-pop romp "Windows."
The songs on Meyrin Fields were originally recorded during the Broken Bells sessions, but aren't B-sides. Mercer and Burton say the cuts just didn't fit with the flow of the other songs. In addition to "Windows," the EP includes "Heartless Empire," "An Easy Life," and the title track, "Meyrin Fields."

Charlie Sheen Recites His Own Poetry and 10 Other Highlights From His First Web Show, Sheen’s Korner

from: http://www.movieline.com/

Leader image for Charlie Sheen Recites His Own Poetry and 10 Other Highlights From His First Web Show, Sheen's Korner If you missed the first (and possibly only) episode of Charlie Sheen’s Internet talk show, Sheen’s Korner, don’t worry! In our quest to chronicle each and every controversial move that the Two and a Half Men star makes, Movieline tuned in and carefully documented everything that happened in the winning-est sixty minutes of web broadcast ever. There was chain-smoking! There were official sponsors! There was poetry about dead babies! And there was a segment called “Just Because They’re Bitchin’.” Trust me… you’re going to want to review the highlights.

Flanked by his long-time assistant Rick Calamaro, one of his muses and his “musical director” Simon Rex, Sheen opened his show by thanking his sponsors — SelfDiscipline.com and Tiger’s Blood — before launching his maiden web show voyage. Highlights follow.

1. Charlie does a news segment in which he only highlights news about winners — including this story about a victorious bald eagle with an unfortunate name.
“This is a story that I kind of questioned, although there is an absolute ‘win’ involved in this story but tell me, am I reading this wrong? ‘A bald eagle crashed into a windshield and has recovered. Weagle the Eagle is now flying again.’ But probably not rolling with his posse because they renamed him ‘Weagle.’ Still a win. Still winning. But let’s take some online name submissions because ‘Weagle the Eagle’ — regardless of all of the street cred that he has now — I just don’t think that name supports his winning ways.

2. Charlie takes (and autographs) a Polaroid picture of himself for an 80-year-old fan of his on Twitter.
“Josie Dimples is an 80-year-old woman who tweeted me and said that she is now ‘winning.’ She is winning inside of every bone. So, Josie Dimples, we salute you. And clearly, Josie Dimples, you are a winner. […] We’re going to shoot one Polaroid per show. I’m going to sign this before it even develops because I know that once it develops with my signature on it, it’s worth a fortune. […] I’ll make this a work of magic warlock art.”

3. Charlie interrupts his show to take a call from “the president.” Only technological problems ensue.
“OK, so that call from the president didn’t happen but I have absolute faith that it will.” [Editor’s Note: It never does.]

4. Charlie asks his audience to submit their favorite Sheenisms via Twitter.
“The past couple weeks has been me cresting on a mercury surfboard on a tsunami, headed toward them. And so, during this odyssey, there has been a lot of wordsmithing that has fallen gracefully from this beautiful hole. [Points to mouth]. So, it’s caught on like an absolute global wildfire. I mean, how couldn’t it? Duh! So, we’re asking you now, what are some of your favorite lines that this warlock brain produced?”

5. When Sheen’s Twitter followers do not remember his sayings word-for-word, he harasses them on-air.
“What is that word? This is not even a line I said. Pay closer attention, losers. As I like to say, ‘Get a job!’”

6. Charlie debuts his new tattoo which of course, says “WINNING.”
SheensKornerTattoo500.jpg
7. Charlie responds to a question about the new iPad.
“I mean, I don’t really have an opinion on that. I don’t, like, research this. Apple is winning. Certainly. It is the greatest company ever.”

8. Charlie reveals the only people he would trade places with… “for 10 minutes.”
“This is a softer segment now, called ‘Kinda Wish I Was Them… For 10 Minutes’ — which is a long time for a mad warlock genius like myself. Colin Farrell. […] Because he’s just as groovy as they get because yeah, I want to be you for 10 minutes. […] Brian ‘Fear the Beard’ Wilson. Don’t even speak. […] He’s just better than you. I don’t care who you are. […] Sean Penn. And I guess I only want to be you for the 10 minutes when fists were just making contact with those loser faces. Boom. Crush. Night, losers. Winning. Duh.”

9. After sweating profusely throughout the first 30 minutes of Sheen’s Korner, Sheen yells at his production team.
“Can we spend a little money on air conditioning here?! Or are we like ‘lower budget?’ Open a window! Or do we not want the sound in this secret chamber to escape out into the normalcy of Humanville?”

10. Charlie mocks NBC News correspondent Jeff Rossen, who interviewed Sheen last week.
“What I thought would be funny is if I took this gentleman, this media personality and I sort of turned the tables on him. I’ll lean in really close, with the good lighting on me and the bad lighting on him and say, ‘You know, Jeff, what was the foam on that first beer like?’ In the promo, I’d cut to him just blinking and looking down… because he is shamed by his actions. ‘So Jeff, tell me about that first Advil. Was it the Advil that led to the Aleve? When did you know that you hit rock bottom? When you went to the all-night CVS to score at 4 in the morning?’ He couldn’t Aleve it alone.”

11. Charlie closes Sheen’s Korner with his own poem, ‘The Big White Phone,’ which he tried to sell years ago, “before people realized how bitchin’ I am. It sold six copies.”
‘In the twisted times of a rotten game,
Where flood waters raised coffins from pain.
Where the worms of freedom have all gone insane,
I plucked them or sucked them from the heart of my brain.
When the edge of confusion appears in disarray,
It’s an act of delusion dead babies would say.
When the clock’s final ticking exposes your day,
It’s your balls that will be clipping from the dock of the bay.
When leaders ring true in the eye of the mass,
Their blood turns cold blue while the dogs eat the grass.
Their painful decay sends a snake up your ass,
The act of delay they promise will pass.
Until we find from true release the volume of our moans,
They pack our bags with sullen peace while their children sleep alone.
When these acts of truth arrive in time,
Please read them high in tone.
I’ll be heaving bile in a vicious style,
As I talk to the big white phone.”

Surfboards Made From Ocean Trash, Including Plastic Bags, Bottles and Glass

by Alex Davies

spiare-surfboard-recycled.jpg

When surfer and founder of Spirare Surfboards Kevin Cunningham was distressed by the trash washing up on the beaches where he rides, he didn't just decide to do something about the debris, he decided to do something with the debris. So was born Spirare Sustainable Surf Craft- Cunningham's project to take back the ocean by making surfboards out of the debris that pollutes it.

Enjoying the water on boards made from the trash polluting it isn't just one of the cooler ways to recycle ocean garbage- it's also a great combination of product and market. Spending so much time in the water, surfers tend to be a pretty green bunch. Of the boards themselves, he writes:

It is a dichotomy between the natural and unnatural. Natural materials form my surfboards; conversely, fragments of man-made debris such as plastic and glass are recycled and reused in the skin of the surfboard. Plastic bags woven into a strengthening cloth, plastic bottles cut up and reassembled into fins, and many other possibilities to be explored.

Cunningham's idea is to first produce a limited series of boards made from reclaimed debris that will be featured in galleries around the country, to be followed by a line of 100 boards that will be sold as custom orders. But before any trash can become the eco-conscious surfer's dream board, Cunningham needs some financial support.

To that end, he has started a Kickstart campaign, looking for $3,500 by mid-April (he's about halfway there). And pledges come with rewards, from Spirare t-shirts, stickers and tote bags to a surfboard itself (for the grand $2,000 pledge). Check out his campaign video:

It's worth a thought, especially if you're aware of how bad ocean pollution has gotten. And while Cunningham is adamant about the quality of the boards he makes by hand, if it ever does break, you can always re-recycle the board into building materials. Cowabunga!

Death of Old-Style Lightbulb Forces Easy-Bake Oven Makeover

Death of Old-Style Lightbulb Forces Easy-Bake Oven Makeover
0diggsdigg
The phaseout of the traditional incandescent lightbulb to push energy efficiency in the U.S. has sent the lighting industry and retailers into overdrive to meet the requirements that take effect next January.

Now toymaker Hasbro is hastening to redesign a childhood classic. The Easy-Bake Oven, which uses a 100-watt bulb as its heat source, is getting a makeover.

“We are aware that the 100-watt incandescent lightbulb will no longer be available beginning in 2012,” Hasbro said in a statement. “In fall 2011, Hasbro will launch the Easy Bake Ultimate Oven, introducing a new way to bake for the next generation of chefs.”

Hasbro product photo.
Hasbro product photo.
Hasbro has already retooled its website to feature “Easy-Bake Microwave & Style” sets, a kit that can be used to make baked goods with fondant-style decorations in a microwave oven.

Inducted into the National Toy Hall of Fame in 2006, the Easy-Bake Oven has frequently changed its look in the nearly half century since its debut in 1963, when the plaything was made by Kenner Products, now a division of Hasbro.

The original Easy-Bake looked like a pint-sized, four-burner range and oven. The most recent model is shown in Hasbro product photos above.

A 2006 model.
A 2006 model.
Throughout the years, the oven’s operating principle hasn’t changed much. But starting in fall, the new model will feature “a heating element that does not use a lightbulb and offers an extensive assortment of mixes reflective of the hottest baking trends for today,” according to Hasbro’s statement.

As GreenBiz.com readers know, lighting companies have introduced a host of new products in preparation for the rolling phaseout of incandescent bulbs, effective January 1, 2012. Under the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007, 100-watt incandescent bulbs will be the first to go. Seventy-five-watt traditional bulbs follow in 2013 and sale of 40- and 60-watt bulbs are to end in 2014.

Among retailers, IKEA began pulling incandescents from its shelves in August and with the new year declared that it no longer sells any incandescents, even though the first stage of the phaseout was a year away and applies only to 100-watt bulbs.

With the retirement of the 100-watt lightbulb, the traditional Easy-Bake is destined to become a collector’s item, and those who have them in good working order will have to stockpile bulbs to keep using the toy.
The stockpile strategy, though it runs afoul of the government's energy efficiency campaign, is being contemplated by a significant percentage of Americans if a recent survey by Osram Sylvania is any indication. About 13 percent of the people responding to the latest Socket Survey said they intend to: “buy a lot of 100-watt lightbulbs while they are still produced and continue using them.”

The 10 Best Pieces of Star Wars Music

From: http://furiousfanboys.com/

There’s no doubt that Star Wars has the best movie soundtracks of all time. There’s really no debating that actually. But if you were to burn a Star Wars “mix tape” CD to listen to in your car, what are the ten tracks that absolutely should go on it? Below we’ve collected the ten pieces of Star Wars music that are an absolute must on such a CD.

Star Wars Main Title
Um, duh? Does this really need an explanation? The only real decision is which track version of it to use as on the soundtracks each movie has a different ending to the main theme as it transitions into the first scene. Personally, I always use the one from A New Hope, but the decision on this one is up to you.

The Imperial March (The Empire Strikes Back)
No Star Wars CD would be complete without what has become Vader’s theme. It’s one of the best things to come out of the amazing Empire Strikes Back soundtrack, and with it Williams gave the Star Wars saga yet another classic theme that will last for all eternity.

The Throne Room (A New Hope)

When I die, this is one of the pieces that will be played at my funeral. The finale to A New Hope is an amazingly powerful piece and another one of the themes that Williams crafted for the saga that will be immortal. As with the Main Title and the Imperial March, this is one of those themes that you see popping up in unexpected places; such as NFL highlight reels.

Clash of Lightsabers/Escape from Cloud City (The Empire Strikes Back)
The entire finale to Empire is epic, and is probably the best of all six movies; the Endor battle included. There are two tracks on the soundtracks that are specifically good. The first is this one which covers the Luke/Vader battle and the escape by Lando, Leia, Chewie, and the Droids. The second one is…

Rebel Fleet/End Title (The Empire Strikes Back)
Anyone who played Star Wars Galaxies at beta and launch will have this track burned into their head as the first part is what is used on the character select screen of that game. This is the finale of Empire with Luke & Leia on the medical frigate, and then the end credits. The Empire credits are great as they give you the major themes of the movie from Vader’s to Leia’s and Yoda’s.

The Forest Battle (Concert Suite)

This one isn’t actually in Return of the Jedi. It’s a concert version of the Endor forest battle that was done just for the soundtrack, but it’s by far the best version of it. Lucasfilm likes to use pieces of this a lot in trailers, specifically the last bit of it, and it was used in trailers and commercials for Episode II.

Leia’s News/Light of the Force (Return of the Jedi)
This is the part where Leia tells Han that she is really Luke’s sister, thus Han’s confused look as to why they were sucking face on Hoth. The awesome part of this track is actually the Vader funeral pyre. The bit from the movie is there, but the official soundtrack actually has an extended version of it where the Force theme flares up to full.

A New Hope & End Credits (Revenge of the Sith)
While the track above is just a fraction of it; the full version of this on the soundtrack CD is an epic 13-minute goodbye to Star Wars that was seriously cut down in the actual film’s end credits. Yes, Williams revisits the Throne Room here, but that’s his way of saying goodbye to Star Wars. This track is also the only time in the prequels where we heard Princess Leia’s theme, but the epic Throne Room finale (with the Force theme in there) is what makes it amazing.

Anakin’s Betrayal (Revenge of the Sith)
The only Prequel track on this list, and while some may have wanted me to include Duel of the Fates or Battle of the Heroes, if I had to pick only one Prequel track; this would be it. The Order 66 scene in Revenge of the Sith is where that movie set itself apart from the Prequels that people thought were somewhat childish as the Jedi Purge began.

Yoda’s Theme (The Empire Strikes Back)

Finally, I had to include Yoda’s theme on the list. After the Imperial March, it’s one of the more memorable themes in the entire saga and it also came from Empire. Williams made Yoda’s theme the perfect fit for an aging Jedi Master who saw the time generations ago when the Jedi were at their prime. Before the dark times. Before the Empire.

'Star Wars: Episode I' 3D Gets Theatrical Release Date From Lucasfilm, Fox

George Lucas’ Industrial Light & Magic is supervising the 3D conversion.

Lucasfilm Ltd. and 20th Century Fox will release the 3D version of Star Wars: Episode I:The Phantom Menace on Feb. 10, 2012.

George Lucas’ Industrial Light & Magic is supervising the 3D conversion, with an eye for both technological considerations and artistic intentions.

Lucasfilm believes Star Wars is perfectly suited to be seen in 3D.

The Hollywood Reporter first reported that Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace would be converted to 3D.

Lucas hopes that releasing the film early in the year, outside of summer blockbuster season, will give it an open run at the box office and also set up the opportunity to sell merchandise through the balance of the year. The plan under discussion would make the release of the subsequent films in the series an annual event on the film calendar.

If the first in the series meets with success, the remaining five films would follow a year apart on comparable dates. However, depending on how the first release performs, the companies could also decide to open the subsequent entries in different spots on the calendar.

When the new special-edition version of the original three Star Wars movies were re-released in 1997, that cycle began with a re-release of Episode IV: A New Hope on Jan. 31, followed by Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back on Feb. 21 and Episode VI: Return of the Jedi on March 14.

Launching the movies during the first quarter of the year would also give Lucas Licensing the opportunity to launch new licensing programs that could run throughout the course of the year.

Britney Spears Strips Down For V Magazine

Britney Spears V Magazine Photos
Sultry and half-clothed on the cover of V Magazine, Britney Spears declares, "The b***h is back and better than ever!" The fierce pop singer, whose seventh studio album, 'Femme Fatale,' lands March 29, talks openly about her album, boys and fame, adding that she has moved past the media scrutiny that plagued parts of her career.

"I try to block it all out and not pay attention to anything they write about me in the magazines or online. I'm done with that," Spears told V Magazine. "I have learned to always stay true to myself and never let what other people say about me change who I am. It's a really important lesson that took me a long time to learn."

Britney Spears Photos - V Magazine

On her new album: I think 'Femme Fatale' speaks for itself... I wanted to make a fierce dance record where each song makes you want to get up and move your body in a different way. That's what I want from the music I listen to. This record is for the clubs, or something you play before you go out at night. It's definitely my edgiest and most mature sound yet.

Why she's more guarded about her personal life: I think it's easier to let people in when you're younger, but when I became a mother I wanted more privacy for myself and my children.

On her talents and interests that might surprise people: I love to cook, especially for my boys. I also make a mean Southern sweet tea from a recipe my mom passed on to me. It's really good. I love it. I make it for my boys all the time.

What she'd do if she gave up show businesses: I'd be a full-time mom, which would be cool. I'd miss my fans and all of the love the most, but I definitely would not miss having my picture taken everywhere I go.

Secrets behind McDonald’s Shamrock St. Patrick’s Day milkshake - SEE VIDEO

The charitable background to the St. Patrick's Day special

Finally the secrets behind the McDonald's best-selling Shamrock Shake have been revealed. Strangely, the bright green minty treat dates back to the 1970, and its story is based on charity.

The Shamrock Shake was developed in 1970, according to McDonald's. However, according to reports on Delish.com, Harold Rosen, who owned a McDonald's in Connecticut, claims he invented the popular holiday drink  in 1966.

The McDonalds website says, "It all began with a little girl, a football team, and a visionary doctor."

The Philadelphia Eagles tight end Fred Hill's daughter was diagnosed with leukemia and began treatment. The Hill family were camping out in waiting rooms in hospitals and saw other families doing the same. They realized that many families travelling long distances to visit their sick family members had nowhere to stay and could not afford hotel rooms. The Hill family did something about it.

Hill and his team decided to raise some funds. The team's general manager, Jim Murray, called a friend in McDonald's advertising and suggested the team on the next promotional push. It just happened to be St. Patrick's Day.

The Shamrock Shake raised enough money to buy a four-story house which was the first Ronald McDonald House Charity.

Imagine -- the Shamrock Shake now has 21,500 fans on Facebook and is second in popularity only to the McRib, and that sandwich had a "Simpsons" episode dedicated to it!
Here’s a hilarious ad for the Shamrock Shake from 1983:

Put your thinking cap on and type with your mind (w/ Video)

(PhysOrg.com) -- Guger Technologies, an Austrian-based company, has developed a computer interface that can work directly with the human brain. The interface allows a user to "type" short messages by staring at letters on the screen. Those messages can then be translated with text to speech software, giving a voice to those who cannot speak for themselves, a funky, robot voice. If speech isn't on the users mind the messages can be sent the same way any other text would be over the web.

Since the system only requires the movement of the eyes in order to function it could be used by people with severe spinal cord injuries or other conditions have the rendered arm movement and use impossible or impractical.

The device, which has been named intendiX, was shown off at .Labs. For those of you who are not familiar with the event Cebit.Labs is a section of the Cebit trade show that is devoted exclusively to showing off research projects.

IntendiX features a tight-fitting skull cap that has a number of electroencephalograph (EEG) electrodes attached to it. These are the Wet style of electrodes, so they do require a gel to function properly, though there is a dry version of the cap in the works. There is also a pocket-sized brainwave amplifier, and a Windows-based application that is designed to analyze the brainwaves received and translate them into letters on the screen. The setup can be connected via a Bluetooth .

Currently the fastest in-lab time has been .9 of a second per character, but that is after the users have been trained on the system. Untrained users testing the device have been a slow as 40 seconds per character. No word yet on when the device will be available to the public.
