10 beatboxers with ridiculous skill

By From http://matadornetwork.com/

Doug E. Fresh, beatboxing pioneer, performing in Brooklyn. Photo: Jason Persse.
Using little more than their mouths and a mic, beatboxers turn themselves into musical instruments.

BEATBOXING started in the 1980s as an element of hip hop. Since then it has progressed with beatbox competitions and world championships, and people such as these 10 ultra talented beatboxers turning it into an art form in itself.
Beardyman
He got his nickname from a show early in his career where a name was needed for the flyer, and at that exact moment, he had a beard. And a star was born. He was the 2006 and 2007 UK Beatbox Champion, and he has a touch of the tongue-in-cheek comedian to him when he performs – check out his “Kitchen Diaries” clip on youtube.

Nathan “Flutebox” Lee
I remember in high school band that only girls would every play the flute. So wrong – another UK beatboxer, Nathan “Flutebox” Lee makes the flute manly and, frankly, bad ass.
Here’s a bonus to working at Google – they apparently bring in some pretty wicked live entertainment.

Doug E. Fresh
Doug E. Fresh was one of the pioneers of beatboxing in the 1980s. His website proclaims him as “the original human beat box.” I don’t know if he was the first person ever, or just the first one to popularize it, but I don’t know that I care – he’s still around, and he’s good.

Rahzel
This New Yorker beatboxer and former member of the group The Roots is known for his ability to rap/sing and beatbox at the same time. He does it here at the 2005 Red Bull BC One.

Eklips
French beatboxer, performing since 1990, Eklips is also a member of Le Remède. Watch him perform the history of hip hop in 4 minutes.

Bellatrix
Men may be able to hit bass notes easier, but there are some amazing women beatboxers out there, like Bellatrix. She started performing in 2004, and in 2007, she formed The Boxettes – an all female beatbox group. In 2009, she became the Female World Beatbox Champion. Watch her face off for that prize with Swiss beatboxer Steff la Cheffe.

Biz Markie

Biz Markie is another beatbox pioneer and legend. Along with more traditional performance venues – concerts, clubs, etc., he’s also performs on the American children’s TV show Yo Gabba Gabba with the “Biz’s Beat of the Day” segment. (Rahzel’s also been on the show.) At first, I thought it was a bit off putting that he’d be on a kid’s show, but then as I thought about it, it makes sense – he’s introducing kids to the genre.

Matisyahu
Matisyahu is a Hasidic Jewish musician who blends reggae music with beatboxing, Jewish musical motifs, and rap. He came onto the scene in 2004 with his first album “Shake Off the Dust…Arise.” Skip to the 2:30 mark in this rendition of “One Day” for his freestyling.

Kenny Muhammad

An old school beatboxer, Kenny Muhammad is known as the “Human Orchestra” after performing in a score composed by conductor and composer David Eaton. He’s also the originator of the “wind technique,” which is basically audible breathing while simultaneously making other noises – try it for yourself with this tutorial, though it make take you quite awhile to have the breath control and skill to do it well.

SkilleR
SkilleR is one of the world’s fast beatboxers, and while a relative newcomer to the scene (he’s in his early 20’s), he was Bulgaria’s first national beatbox champion and he’s performed worldwide.

Dr. Dre Was A Pimp Before He Was 10

Dr. Dre was still pissing the bed and already getting more chicks than you ever will. The best part was indirectly telling the crowd that he’s moving in on his dad’s game. Classic.

5 Facts About the Late Nate Dogg

from http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/

Best known for his work with Warren G, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, his unforeseen death leaves the hip hop community in mourning.

Nathaniel D. Hale died Tuesday at age 41, rattling the hip hop community. "We lost a true legend n hip hop n rnb," Snoop Dogg Tweeted after Hale’s sudden passing. "I love u buddy luv. U will always b wit me 4ever n a day."

So who is Hale, better known on stage as Nate Dogg?
THR uncovers:
1. He's been performing with Snoop Dogg since he was young.
In 1991, the Long Beach, Calif. native formed the rap group 213 — a reference to the local area code — with then-unknown pals Snoop Dogg and Warren G after serving a three-year stint in the Marines. The group's demo eventually made its way to Dr. Dre, who liked Nate's sound and recruited him to contribute to his classic solo debut, 1992's The Chronic.
2. He’s been nominated for four Grammys.
After his work with Dre, Nate collaborated with Warren G on the legendary track "Regulate.” It hit No. 2 on Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart and also earned him his first Grammy nod in 1995. He received a second nomination in 2001 for providing a hook to the Dre-Snoop track "The Next Episode"; a third in 2002 for singing on Ludacris' "Area Codes" and another notice in 2007 for his work on Eminem's "Shake That."
3. He’s collaborated with everyone from Tupac to Mariah Carey.
Though he released his share of solo albums, he was better known for his countless cameos on tracks by Mariah Carey, Eve, Nelly and even Mark Ronson. 50 Cent recalled working with him on the 2003 track “21 Questions”: “I wrote the chorus to ‘21 Questions,'" he Tweeted. "I needed Nate to sing it for me. He had a way of making everything feel hard.”
4. He had been struggling with health issues
His lawyer Mark Geragos told the Associated Press that the performer died as a result of complications from two strokes he suffered in recent years. The Long Beach Press Telegram, which first reported the performer's passing, says Nate had one in 2007 that left him partially paralyzed and another the following year. Still, Rod McGrew, his close friend and manager, tells TMZ the death was unexpected and that Nate had been making significant progress in his recovery. McGrew said Nate had gotten his memory back and was fully alert and aware up until his death. "We appreciate the enormous outpouring of response from all over the world,” McGrew said in a statement. We greatly appreciate that and thank everyone for their prayers and support. We know that Nate will be hanging out with his good friends 2Pac and Biggie."
5. He leaves behind a lasting legacy.
Hours after his death, performers took to Twitter to pay tribute. Tweeted Snoop: “I am so sad but so happy I got to grow up wit u and I will c u again n heaven cuz u know d slogan.” Rapper and collaborator Daz Dillinger added, "R.I.P. TO MY HOMEBOY NATE DOGG DPGC DOGG POUND GANGSTA 4 LIFE." 50 Cent Tweeted, “GOD BLESS HIM R.I.P he meant a lot to west coast hiphop. Iv always been a fan of it.” Said The Game: "I lost a friend. Been here before. Tears. Memories. One day someone will lose "US" as well. LIVING until that day comes is our only option."

Rapper Flava Flav to open fried chicken restaurant in Iowa: 'Col. Sanders, you better watch out'

Rapper Flava Flav is turning his talents to fried chicken with the launch of his own restaurant.

Rap star Flava Flav is bringing New York-style fried chicken to little Clinton, Ia.

The wacky reality TV star and Public Enemy rapper is opening Flav's Fried Chicken Monday in the Midwest town of 26,000 that's 200 miles west of Chicago.

"I always said to myself, 'Col. Sanders, you better watch out," the rapper says in a YouTube video. "Your boy Flava Flav is coming and you better watch out."

Flav, whose real name is William Drayton Jr., has been in Iowa preparing for the launch and told the Clinton Herald newspaper he's even ready to work the fryer.

He admitted it was a bit off the beaten track for him and says hopes to expand quickly to "hundreds" of outlets.

"I ain't gonna lie: This is way out there," Flav said.

The new joint will be called FFC and the rapper says the idea stemmed from the 99-cent wings he served at Mama Cimino in Las Vegas.

His business partner is the brother of that restaurant's owner.

Flav was known for his signature "yeah, boyee" chant and wearing a giant clock necklace when Public Enemy was topping the charts in the '80s. He found fame anew in 2004 on the third season of VH1's "The Surreal Life" He also starred in the network's "Flavor of Love."

He has a culinary degree and restaurant experience - and a serious shortage of modesty.
"I'm gonna have this place crowded like O'Hare airport," he bragged.

MC Hammer Gives Jay-Z a Bap-Diss-’Em in WTF?! Retaliation Video

by Kenny Herzog
from http://mogmusicnetwork.com/

After Hova unnecessarily slammed formerly untouchable hip-hop icon-turned-Surreal Life cast member MC Hammer in Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Friday offering, “So Appalled” (the third(!) random Hammer reference this year, oddly, following Freeway and Rick Ross’ lead), Hammer pledged via Twitter that he’d avenge his honor on Halloween. And boy, was he not bluffing.

Over the past month, Hammer apparently set out to produce a five-minute video for a track titled “Better Run Run” in order to set a few things straight: 1. If he can afford such an indulgent conceptual clip, he must not be the “broke,” less “focused” has-been that Jay-Z’s diss asserted; 2. Because of the pastor/rapper’s own flirtation with ethically compromised success while on Death Row Records, it’s his sanctimonious and crowd-moving duty to warn Jay that Satan wants his soul, and will follow him for months in a cheap plastic devil mask until he gets what he’s after; and 3. the world has been needing a satirical diss video from a clearly less influential MC ever since Kool Moe Dee launched his ridiculous “Death Blow” comeback to LL Cool J’s “Mama Said Knock You Out.”….

To the nearly 50-year-old Hammer’s (or his management’s, whichever) credit, it’s a shrewd move, and the song itself isn’t actually terrible, and he even gets a few cutting lyrics about Jigga’s boundless self-branding in there (“Naw, naw, I don’t Roc your wear/Your shoes, I don’t need a dark pair”).

But alas, the man who once assumed the role of his own audience when begging himself to Please… Don’t Hurt ‘Em takes pity on Jay in the end, managing to halt the devil’s chase (the purposeful casting of a doughy, man-boobed actor in a Yankee hat and white tee to represent a frightened, fleeing Jay is genuinely hilarious) with a simple “talk to the hand” gesture, before concluding the “Better Run” saga by giving Jay an actual baptism in the surrounding lake.

Obviously, Hammer’s emphatic response will do little to dent Jay’s momentum, and Hova himself will probably express some kind of genuine tribute to the MC’s legacy and admit to laughing along with the clip. And Hammer knows this. Jay picking a fight with the long-irrelevant rapper and dancer, particularly when the guy ultimately broke down mainstream doors for hip-hop that would have never been ajar, would be outright bullying. So ostensibly, it’s a win-win piece of viral reactionary genius.

Although for all those other rappers out there taking a jab at Hammer’s expense, bear in mind the guy largely squandered his millions employing virtually every person from his entire Oakland family and neighborhood. Last time I checked, Hova’s been acquiring portions of his fortune by spinning narratives about all the people he’s stepped on and over to get there.

Lil' P-Nut the 7-Year-Old Rapper Performs on Ellen

Ha ha, tell me more Justin Bieber jokes! Yes, those are funny! "That song Baby, Baby reminds me that Bieber is a baby!" An L. O. L. to you, sir.

Oh hey, here's a seven-year-old rapper named Lil' P-Nut performing on Ellen, singing to a 3rd-grader, asking her if she'd like bubble gum or a freeze cup and praising how she obeys her parents.

No, go on, tell me more about how young that Bieber kid is. If you don't mind, I'm just gonna play this clip while you're talking.

Mmmm, mmmm, "You can be my study buddy, you can teach me social studies..."

Rap Around The World - 30 Languages, One Awesome

Post Pic

Very cool video of Rap/Hip-Hop being presented in 30 different countries around the globe. It comes in all shapes and sizes.

Here is a sampling of 30 different raps, from 30 different countries (in alphabetical order). While I’m not the biggest fan of the genre, this video really showcases how different Rap/Hip-Hop can sound depending on what part of the world you come from. Same concept but way different look and sound.

Considering it’s only been a few decades since Rap started dominating the U.S. Billboard charts, it amazes me how fast a style of music can spread with a little word of mouth and a lot of love from the internet.

Enjoy!
