16 Food Items That Could Make a Bulimic Fat

From: http://itthing.com/

So bulimia is no joke, we know, but we wanted to make a point that the foods we discovered are so fatty, so laden with lard, calories, and trans fat that it could potentially make anyone obese if they make eating these foods a habit of sorts. Some of these items provide a full days worth of calories, sodium and fat in just a few bites and if that isn’t enough they are often times disguised as ‘healthy’ choices. You might be surprised to see that not all of these come from fast food restaurants either.

McDonald’s Deluxe Breakfast

Starting with one of the more obviously unhealthy places to eat, McDonalds offers a moderate sized breakfast platter that includes eggs, sausage, pancakes (with syrup and margarine), hash browns and a buttermilk biscuit. I say moderate because I have seen average sized men take down 2-3 of these plates as the portions aren’t huge. Chewy sausage, squishy eggs, and crunchy oily hash browns- I can’t see how people palate this stuff, but it’s cheap I suppose if you are in need but definitely not a wise choice.
Total: 1,220 calories, 550 of them from fat, including 17 grams of saturated fat.

Cinnabon Caramel Pecanbon

Another breakfast choice of many, this deliciously sticky roll is nothing more but sugar, lard and flour- sorry to ruin your fantasy. It offers virtually no nutritional value and does nothing but give you a quick sugar high and instant cellulite on your bum.
Total: 1,100 calories and 56 grams of fat

Outback Steakhouse Aussie Cheese Fries

In the mood for a cheesy appetizer or just a quick snack while slugging back a few beers? One of the fattiest items on the menu, this platter of straight fat… err cheese, french fries, bacon, and salt should truly come with a warning. Prepare to feel like crap after eating this- fair warning.
Total: 2,710 calories, 203 grams of fat, 25 grams of saturated fat and 6360 mg of sodium.

Burger King’s Triple Whopper With Cheese

I suppose this must come from peoples demands to have ‘more’ in order to satisfy their appetites but no matter how hungry you are, this burger just isn’t right. Keep in mind that the calorie count below is pre fries and drink!

Total: 1,230 calories and 82 grams of fat including 32 grams of saturated fat.

Subway’s Double Meat Tuna Sandwich

Subway Restaurant, renowned for their low-fat subs and Jared- the fat guy who lost weight eating nothing but Subway sandwiches, is actually home to several unhealthy sandwich choices. The 6-inch Double Meat Classic Tuna, which has extra meat, extra mayo, and extra cheese, has far too many calories and fat to be called a wise choice by anyone unfortunately.
Total: 790 calories, 55 grams of fat, including 16 grams of saturated fat.

Taco Bell Fiesta Taco Salad

A salad you might think would be the better option to order at taco bell, but you would be fooled if you think this dish of tasty greens is anything healthy. Have a bean burrito instead and save yourself the heart ache- literally.
Total: 860 calories, 46 grams of total fat, 14 grams of saturated fat

Baskin Robbin’s Large Oreo Chocolate Shake

A simple summertime treat- a yummy Oreo chocolate shake from Baskin Robbins is too good to pass up on a hot day. Sure we all know ice cream isn’t the best thing in the world- but it certainly doesn’t seem like the worst right? Wrong! This is why kids are overweight these days- put a health warning on it for parents, please!
Total: 2600 Calories: 2600, 135 grams of fat, 59 grams of saturated fat and 1700 mg of sodium.

Macaroni Grill Spaghetti and Meatballs with Meat Sauce

Spaghetti and meatballs seems like a fairly normal meal and in comparison to a triple cheese burger, would seem like a much better options- noodles, marinara, and a little beef sounds like nice meal. Better look out with this dish however- I am not even sure how it’s even possible to get the number of calories here as the plate doesn’t weigh in at 10 pounds- they must use a pound of butter and retain the meats fat for flavor… just gross. You really might want to skip the bread and butter beforehand.
Total: 2430 Calories, 128 grams of fat, and 5290 mg of sodium.

Uno Chicago Grill’s Pizza Skins

Indeed I realize I am upsetting many football fans here as these fun appetizers are perfect for parties and munching on while watching sports, but sorry to say these little guys have more fat and calories than a whole pizza.
Total: 2400 Calories, 155 grams of fat, 50 grams of saturated fat, and 3600 mg of sodium

Outback Steakhouse Baby Back Ribs – Full Rack

Ah, the ribs! So finger licking good, and with each lick you probably gain a pound. More fat than quality meat, this rib dish is meant to be shared. Sing it with me folks- “I want my ‘old bootie back, bootie back, bootie back”.
Total: 2260 Calories

Cheesecake Factory Carrot Cake

We have all made the mistake in thinking a dessert made with carrots must be a healthier choice than sweet, creamy cheesecake, but you’d be wrong… really wrong.
Total: 1,560 calories and 84g of fat

Domino’s ExtravaganZZa Feast deep-dish Pizza

No surprise here that pizza makes the list and this Dominos Meat Pie is by far the worst choice. A large thick crust topped with pepperoni, ham, green pepper, onion, black olives, mushrooms, sausage, beef and extra cheese explains why this meal should be shared by a large crowd.
Total: 430 calories, 23 grams of fat and 8 grams of saturated fat PER SLICE

Poutine

The French Canadian side dish of choice, Poutine is just a heart attack waiting, especially when served with a hamburger and a shake. Pronounced “Pooh-teen,” this dish consists of fries, cheese curds and copious amounts of gravy. Yum!
Total: 1,300 Calories and 72 grams of fat

The Big Texan’s 72 Oz Steak

In Amarillo Texas there is a neat steak house in which you can order a 72 ounce steak- 4.5 pounds of meat (and if you eat the entire thing within an hour- you get it free). I can honestly say, I have been there and seen this thing- it looks like a giant cow butt in its raw form and a bit less intimating cooked. I can’t imagine many people make this a regular part of their diet, but even eating just one of these meals, there are enough grams of fat to meet your intake allowance for the week.
Approximate total: 5,760 Calories and 480 Grams of fat.

Heart Attack Grill’s Quadruple Bypass Burger

I am at a loss for words here… truly. This burger from Heart Attack Grill might as well be a cow on a stick.
Approximate Total: 8,000 calories, 60 grams of fat.

Beer Barrel Belly Buster- the World’s Largest Burger

OK, so no one really would eat the whole thing- we would hope, but if you do want to give it a try, you might want to prepare ahead of time.
Total: Weighing in a about 15.5 pounds with 11.5 pounds of beef, estimated calories: 25000+

Pedal-Powered Washing Machine Gets Big Company Backing

by Jaymi Heimbuch
from: http://www.treehugger.com/

human-powered washing machine photo

Photo via Gizmag

Bike-powered washing machines aren't a new idea; however, at least one big appliance company is backing up the idea. Haier, an large electronics company out of China, showed off a human-powered washing machine concept at IFA 2010. It's fairly simple -- an exercise bike collects energy as the person pedals, and the charging battery then powers the washing machine. Supposedly 20 minutes of work is enough to wash one load of clothes on cold cycle. The idea of using human power to get off grid even a little bit is tempting -- and of course gyms are becoming quick to harness the power of people exercising. But could it work at home?

Gizmag writes, "The rationale behind Haier's IFA display is that, like almost every major electronics manufacturer, it's keen to make consumers aware of its environmental commitment...That's not to say that the human-powered washer is a total gimmick. Haier told us that it is gauging consumer response at the show and might consider bringing the idea to market."

Even with a big company looking at pushing it forward, whether or not someone would bring this into their home is up in the air. I can see it being like one of those NordicTrack systems that seem so brilliant around the holidays when we're keen to loose a couple pounds but loses its shine a couple weeks later. After all, the Cyclean hasn't exactly taken off in the last four years.

But I have to say, as someone who likes to cycle for exercise and multitask, I'd definitely consider something like this. It'd not only save me money from the energy bill each month, but I'd be able to quit my gym and save money there too. Not a bad deal. And I'd be forced to exercise since being lazy means no clean clothes.

Even with Haier's backing, it seems very unlikely to be popular if it makes it to market. Plus, the bigger environmental issue with washing machines isn't their energy use but their water use. A bike-powered system would be better suited for the clothes dryer portion of a wash load.

Would you use it? Or better yet, would you convert your existing washing machine to run on pedal power?

10 Most Beautiful Snakes on Earth

Green Tree Python

Photo: nasmac

Snakes. The word makes some shudder and others cringe while yet others think in wonder of the huge world of reptiles and their marvels. Whether you hate them or love them, one thing cannot be denied, which is their beauty. Count the top 10 down with me!

10. Honduran Milk Snake
Honduran Milksnake

Photo: Doug Mong

Lampropeltis triangulum hondurensis, is found in Honduras and Nicaragua. While at first glance not one of the most beautiful snakes, take a look at its scales above - they are bright (which is what the 'lampro' in the binomial name stands for) and a brilliant red and black. They are constrictors, but look a lot like coral snakes which herpetologists believe is an example of Batesian Mimicry - when a harmless animal takes on the appearance of a venomous one to protect themselves.

9. Leucistic Texas Rat Snake
leucistic Texas Ratsnake

Photo: Doug Mong

This Leucistic Texas Rat Snake is a lovely lady in white. She gets her coloring and the "leucistic" element of her name from a condition that results in a lack of all pigmentation, rather than just melanin which appears in albinism. This is why her eyes are of normal color. Texas Rat Snakes are (obviously) found in Texas as well as in Arizona and Louisiana. They are non venomous so a bite will give you little more than a sore leg.

8. Indigo Eastern Rat Snake
Eastern Indigo Snake

Photo: Ameng Wu

The Eastern Indigo snake is unofficially the longest in America, reaching lengths of 9.2ft. Carnivorous in habits, he has been known to beat his prey against other objects in a frenzied fashion to kill it. He will even eat other snakes such as the Texas Rattlesnake, and is immune to its venom. That aside, he deserves number 8 in our countdown for his brilliant black beauty that can look almost blue in the light.

7. The Emerald Tree Boa
Emerald Tree Boa

Photo: Derek Ramsey

One of the most vivid and unforgettable snakes is the Emerald Tree Boa, Corallus Caninus. These are found in South America and the Amazon. Even though it looks like it is closely related to the Green Tree Python and sleeps the same way, they are only distant relatives. One thing that the Emerald has, is very large front teeth. They way she catche her prey is to stay coiled on the branch, head down, ready to strike. She then catches small
mammals with her front teeth and pulls them in to their doom.

6. The Iridescent Shieldtail
Iridescent Shieldhead

Photo: Sandilya Theuerkauf

The only reason this lovely is not in the top 3 is that it is hard to see exactly how beautiful she is from this photograph, but she is actually even more gorgeous than she appears here. She has to be one of the most beautiful snakes in the world. The Iridescent Shieldtail, Melanophidium bilineatum , is not well known. Only three specimens are thought to have ever been caught and little is known of how it behaves in the wild. Recently some more have been seen but all that can be said for certain is that it's beautiful and rare.

5. Amelanistic Burmese Python
Burmese Pythons

Photo: Danleo

This head turner is an Amelanistic Burmese python - a species which retains their yellow, carotenoid-derived pigments. Mammals only produce pigments with melanins while birds and reptiles can also produce them by other means including carotenoids as we see here. Effectively though, she can be considered an albino snake in that amelanistic is classified under albinism

4. Brazilian Rainbow Boa
Brazilian Rainbow Boa

Photo: Doug Mong

This beauty is the Brazilian Rainbow Boa, Epicrates cenchria
named for the iridescent color of its scales. The underlying color is either brown, orange as we see here or a mix of the two. It is found in Central and South America and all the way through the Amazon basin. It is medium sized compared to other snakes and it likes the rivers and drainage areas, living for up to 20 years.

3. Eastern Coral Snake
Coral Snake

Photo: Norman Benton

Micrurus fulvius is one of the most beautiful of all snakes. Unfortunately it is also very venomous, as are all coral snakes. On the good side, there are only about 15 to 20 recorded bites a year but on the bad side they are deadly and soon there will be no more antivenin for it. Pfizer, has said that with such low demand, it is not worth the cost and research spent on it, and current stock is due to expire at the end of this year. The snakes are forest animals, living in leaf litter and brush. They flee before biting, but if you do get bitten it is imperative you go to a doctor. Respiratory failure occurs within hours.

2. Blue Racer Snake
Blue Racer

Photo: Jon Fife

This beauty is a pretty rare photograph of a Blue Racer snake. I say rare because its not often you get such a brilliant blue reflecting from the scales, as often they seem more gray in color. Its formal name is Coluber constrictor but despite this, they normally simply pin their prey to the ground and swallow them alive. They are known mostly east of the Rockies but have been seen as far south as Mexico.

1. Green Tree Python
Morelia-viridis

Photo: Micha L. Rieser

Morelia viridis, the Green Tree Python is a stunner that is found in New Guinea, Indonesia and parts of Australia. It, along with the Emerald Tree Boa, have a unique way of sleeping. They loop one or two coils along a branch, saddle style and place their head in the middle. Remember if it is in Indonesia, it is a python, if it is in South America, a boa. They are often mixed up because they are the only two that sleep this way.

Green Tree Python

Photo: Silvain de Munck

Sadly it is threatened due to the destruction of its habitat by logging, as well as by the pet trade. For her grace, her beauty and her threatened status, she easily deserves the number one spot in our countdown.

As I said earlier, whether you shudder at snakes or you like them, their beauty cannot be denied. There are others some feel more beautiful but I think this gives a good cross section of their amazing diversity in appearance. Several are threatened by loss of habitat, thereby threatening other species. However, hopefully we can remember that they are needed in this world to keep the food chain balanced. If for no reason but their beauty I hope you will think twice when you hear of new logging in the Amazon or other areas.

Check Your iPhone 4's Antenna Reception With Field Test Mode In iOS 4.1

Now you can put your iPhone into field test mode, which will allow to easily and precisely test your cell signal reception quality. You just need to follow these two easy steps:

• First, upgrade your iPhone 4—or any iPhone—to iOS 4.1.
• Dial *3001#12345#* into your phone.

Done. The signal bars will be replaced with a number (like -85). The more negative the number, the worse the signal is. Example: -110 is worse than -85. Once activated, you can switch between signal bars and number by touching on the number.

Try the test mode now. Then use a finger to connect the two metal bands on the lower left corner, over the black plastic strip. That will short-circuit the magical gap and bring the phone's signal down quite significantly.

To get out of the field test mode, just hit the home button. [Thanks KTK1990!]

Speed Bumps of the Future: Creepy Optical Illusion Children

From: http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/

Today, West Vancouver officials will roll out a new way to keep drivers alert and slow them down: a little girl speed bump. A trompe-l’Ĺ“il, the apparently 3D girl located near the École Pauline Johnson Elementary School is actually a 2D pavement painting, similar to the one shown here.

3dgirl

In what sounds like a terrifying experience, the girl’s elongated form appears to rise from the ground as cars approach, reaching 3D realism at around 100 feet, and then returning to 2D distortion once cars pass that ideal viewing distance. Its designers created the image to give drivers who travel at the street’s recommended 18 miles per hour (30 km per hour) enough time to stop before hitting Pavement Patty–acknowledging the spectacle before they continue to safely roll over her.

The illusion is part of a $15,000 safety program that will run this week, led by the BCAA Traffic Safety Foundation and the public awareness group Preventable.ca. As drivers approach, the police will monitor the fake girl’s effects. Despite fears that drivers may stop suddenly or swerve into actual 3D children, David Duane of the BCAA Traffic Safety Foundation told CTV news that the bump was meant to bring attention to driver-caused pedestrian injuries, and that the fake girl should not cause accidents:

“It’s a static image. If a driver can’t respond to this appropriately, that person shouldn’t be driving….”

In 2008, Philadelphia used similar, virtual speed bumps–more common in Europe–in its “Drive CarePhilly” campaign. Philadelphia, however, chose a less anthropomorphic route–opting for three spikes.

J.J. Abrams teams up with 'Dark Knight' scribe on a new thriller

If pedigree alone were enough to get a TV show greenlit, this next project would be a slam dunk: J.J. Abrams is currently shopping a crime-thriller series created by Jonah Nolan, brother and frequent collaborator of The Dark Knight/Inception auteur Christopher Nolan.

This would mark the first small-screen foray for Nolan, who not only co-wrote The Dark Knight and The Prestige but penned the short story on which Memento was based.

According to an insider, one network is extremely interested in the untitled project. My hunch is, it won’t be the only one.

All in all, it’s shaping up to be a busy development season for Bad Robot boss Abrams, who is also pitching an Alcatraz-set drama series written by fellow Lost producer Elizabeth Sarnoff.

Obama extends best wishes for Rosh Hashanah

From: http://content.usatoday.com/

President Obama has taped a special message for the Jewish holidays, including renewed hope for Middle East peace talks.

A transcript:

As Jews in America and around the world celebrate the first of the High Holy Days I want to extend my warmest wishes for the New Year. L'shana Tova Tikatevu -- may you be inscribed and sealed in the Book of Life.

Rosh Hashanah marks the beginning of the spiritual calendar and the birth of the world. It serves as a reminder of the special relationship between God and his children, now and always. And it calls us to look within ourselves -- to repent for our sins; recommit ourselves to prayer; and remember the blessings that come from helping those in need.

Today, those lessons ring as true as they did thousands of years ago. And as we begin this New Year, it is more important than ever to believe in the power of humility and compassion to deepen our faith and repair our world.

At a time when too many of our friends and neighbors are struggling to keep food on the table and a roof over their heads, it is up to us to do what we can to help those less fortunate.

At a time when prejudice and oppression still exist in the shadows of our society, it is up to us to stand as a beacon of freedom and tolerance and embrace the diversity that has always made us stronger as a people.

And at a time when Israelis and Palestinians have returned to direct dialogue, it is up to us to encourage and support those who are willing to move beyond their differences and work towards security and peace in the Holy Land. Progress will not come easy, it will not come quick. But today we had an opportunity to move forward, toward the goal we share -- two states, Israel and Palestine, living side by side in peace and security.

The scripture teaches us that there is "a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace." In this season of repentance and renewal, let us commit ourselves to a more hopeful future.

Michelle and I wish all who celebrate Rosh Hashanah a sweet year full of health and prosperity.

We're going to need a bigger bowl! Fisherman catches massive 30lb 'goldfish'

From: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/

It might look like an enormously generous fairground prize.

But no goldfish bowl in the world could contain this catch.

The orange koi carp weighs 30lb - the same as an average three-year-old girl - and is thought to be one of the largest of its kind ever captured.

What a whopper! Angler Raphael Biagini got the surprise of his life when he landed this gigantic koi carp on a fishing trip to France. At 30lb it's thought to be the largest of its kind ever caught in the wild

What a whopper! Angler Raphael Biagini got the surprise of his life when he landed this gigantic koi carp on a fishing trip to France. At 30lb it's thought to be the largest of its kind ever caught in the wild

It took Raphael Biagini ten minutes to reel the creature out of a lake in the south of France - moments after fellow anglers told him they had spent six years trying to snare the legendary 'giant goldfish'.

Mr Biagini, pictured, said: 'To begin with, we couldn't tell what was at the end of the line, but we knew it was big.

'The fish was a good fighter, but not enough to win.'

After an impromptu photoshoot, the 30-year-old from Montpellier returned his prize catch to the water.

Roger Waters The Wall Live Tour 2010/2011

From: http://www.rogerwaterstours.com/

Kipp Lennon, one of the backing singers on Roger Waters The Wall Live Tour of 2010 2011 has made a post on the Venice band website (Venice are doing the backing vocals) and has posted some photos of the Venice band. Of particular interest is one of them rehearsing with Roger Waters for The Wall tour!

In the blog post Behind The Wall, Kipp Lennon said that the Venice website will be “a tour diary of sorts.” So it will be good to keep an eye on that website. Your humble narrator here will be!

The Wall Tour Rehearsals Photos

The Wall Tour Rehearsals Photo 2010

The Wall Tour Rehearsals Photo 2010

Some interesting thoughts from Kipp Lennon:

Roger is such a pleasure to work with. He is open to re-examining things, appreciative of the team he has assembled, demanding the best from us all in a good way. Definitely firm in his vision and belief in the importance of being true to the original. He’s constantly wearing so many hats as he considers the history, the music, the stage design…everything down to the costumes, technology and souvenir programs. He’s VERY excited about the technological advances and innovations that a thirty year wait has brought to this project, and his enthusiasm is infectious. I can’t reveal any of the new stuff here, obviously, but, man you should hear him talk about it. You can’t help but step back sometimes and marvel at the enormity of this project and at the man driving it all. His vision and fire, adapting “The Wall”…updating it… preserving it… re-discovering it… he is just as passionate now as he was when he wrote it. And we get to be part of it. He continues to tweak it and polish it and shape it into his vision. It’s funny, after all these hours of rehearsing and hanging, we mostly get accustomed to being with him now, and we’re all just making music together, but every once in a while he’ll start a song like “Mother” or “Don’t Leave Me Now,” and we look at each other like, “That’s the actual guy right there.”

Drive-In ‘Sex-Boxes’ May Spread To Zurich

By David Chalk
From http://www.nileguide.com/

Zurich’s new police chief has received “thousands of complaints” from residents about the city’s thriving red light district. So he’s planning a police trip to Germany to check out a possible solution: ’sex-boxen’, or drive-in boxes where prostitutes can do their thing in relative privacy and safety. The boxes were first used in Holland, and Cologne became the first German city to implement them in 2002, after which they spread to other German cities like Essen.

Jessica Francis of the Swiss daily Blick (translated from German) stresses that the Zurich policemen who are going on this German study trip “do not go for pleasure,” instead they just want to study if something similar can be implemented in their city. In Cologne, the city fenced in an area about the size of a football field, provided a gate and privacy screen, and outlawed filming and photography. After the first three years, they declared the sex-boxen a success, with little violence perpetrated against prostitutes and improved health among sex workers.

Still, it’s hard to picture Richard Gere and Julia Roberts falling in love in one of these:

In an interesting twist, the Zurich police department’s spokesman is really named Reto Casanova. “We can’t get rid of prostitution,” Casanova says, “so have to learn how to control it.”

So far the police department doesn’t have a site in mind for Zurich’s version of the boxes, but they are preparing a report for the city council on their findings.

The Google streaming search results are here. Already leaked, and seen in the wild by users, the new Google search updates on-the-fly, as-you-type, without you having to hit the search button when you're done. They call it Google Instant.

To recap, here are some of the recent search changes at Google.
Live: Google Instant Streaming Search Results Eliminate the Search Button

Live: Google Instant Streaming Search Results Eliminate the Search Button

This is what a search looks like right now. The user-interaction part where you type in a query and selecting a result takes the most time.

Here's a video showing Google instant. You can try it out by visiting this site and setting that as your home page.

The search results automatically pop up as you're typing, complete with auto correcting. If your search has various suggestions, you can scroll up and down to each selection and the page will automatically update to reflect what would happen if you had actually searched for that.

Google says it's not exactly "search as you type", but they predict what you're likely to type and bring you results for that, instead of the half-of-a-word you only typed.

Live: Google Instant Streaming Search Results Eliminate the Search Button

A screenshot of it working, showing the result of what Google things I'm going to type, when I've only typed Goo.

Google Instant will be available on Chrome, Firefox, Safari and IE 8 starting today. They'll roll out as part of their home page and search results today, but they'll roll out in the next week internationally (for people who are signed in), in these countries:
Live: Google Instant Streaming Search Results Eliminate the Search Button

Here are the pieces that Google say make up the pie. Instant results, Predictions and Scroll to Search.

Live: Google Instant Streaming Search Results Eliminate the Search Button

A sample Google search: Typing the letter W predicts that you're going to look for weather, and knows your location, so it looks up weather for you in your location after just one keypress.

Prediction! If someone types in "the gi" when you don't know the entire title of "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo", it'll predict the title for you and show you results so you can see if it's what you want.

And scrolling to search gives you various information, say, if you want to take a vacation to yosemite, the predictions are stuff like, weather, maps, lodgings and other likely results you'd want if you searched for this.

When all three gears come together, this is what you get. Feedback.

In Google's example, they show that three searches (searching for a a title, searching for the title + musical, searching for the title + musical + tickets to find tickets), can be combined into "one" search, because you get auto-predict and streaming results when you continue to type.

Upcoming!

Google Instant is coming to mobiles, in the future. It works the same way as it does on the desktop. It's coming "later this fall".

Live: Google Instant Streaming Search Results Eliminate the Search Button

Some interesting Q&A results from Google's page:

Q:
Will Google Instant slow my Internet connection?

A:
We anticipate that Google Instant will not slow your Internet connection, and we plan to automatically turn it off for very slow connections. Even though we are serving more results pages, the additional load this enhancement creates is very small when compared to other types of web services such as streaming video and online gaming. We've also worked hard to minimize the amount of data that is sent and received during the search process. For example, when rendering new results as you type, we only send the parts of the page that change, without updating the static elements, such as a the page frame around the results.

Q:
If an offensive or lewd word is a fraction of my query, will Google push these results in front of me as I type?

A:
As always, we provide options to filter the content you see in search. You can choose to set SafeSearch to filter out explicit content, and parents can lock SafeSearch to the strict setting. In addition, autocomplete excludes certain terms related to pornography, violence and hate speech. Learn more about SafeSearch.

This will be on web browsers (Chrome), from the search box, in the next few months.

A Google TV Refresher: What We Know So Far

A Google TV Refresher: What We Know So Far

Google TV's planned fall launch is not news, but given that Google hasn't said much about its television plans since May, it's time for a refresher. Here's a quick rundown of everything to know about Google TV as anticipation grows for the imminent launch of the service:

What is Google TV?

It's a platform that joins the Internet with traditional television. Google TV shares some traits with TiVo Premiere -- search by name for a movie or show, and you'll find ways to watch on cable or the Web -- but Google's approach to the Internet is more open. Google TV can act as a full Web browser for Flash videos, e-mail and reading, and users can set up home screens for their favorite channels, shows and Web sites.

So it's not actually a television?

Not necessarily. Just as Android is a platform for smartphones, with hardware partners like Motorola and HTC, Google TV will run televisions and set-top boxes from other manufacturers. So far, Logitech has announced a set-top box called the Revue, and Sony plans to launch a television that integrates Google TV. Any cable box should be able to connect with Google TV devices at launch, but Dish Network HD DVR receivers will be "optimized" for the service, extending universal search to the Dish TV Guide, DVR recordings and on-demand movies.

How will subscription Web TV services work?

They'll be available through the browser like any other Web site, but whether there will be special treatment for services like Netflix and Hulu Plus remains unclear. Google has at least demonstrated embedding of Amazon and Netflix content within the main Google TV interface.

Will there be apps?

Google TV will start supporting the Android Market next year, bringing smartphone apps to the television, but it's still not clear how touchscreen apps will translate to the remote control. Separately, Google is encouraging Website developers to create Web apps for the television, optimized for viewing from the couch and controllable with buttons.

Do you need a mouse and keyboard?

It's a possibility, but Logitech's set-top box will include a remote that combines a mini-keyboard, remote control and touch screen. Logitech also has free remote apps for iPhone and Android, and this image shows the different kinds of controls that can be used. Sony's remote control plans are not as clear-cut.

Any other phone integration?

Android phone owners will be able to control the TV with voice searches and push videos that they're watching on the phone onto the television.

Can I watch movies and shows stored on other local media?

At the very least, I hope Google TV's future support for Android apps will allow streaming from networked computers and media centers, but I can't find any remarks from Google, Logitech or Sony on this topic.

How much will Google TV cost?

Pricing is still a mystery. For context, consider that Apple TV costs $99, and the upcoming Boxee Box, another Internet TV device that uses its own interface to pull in Web content, will cost $200 when it arrives in November.

The iPad Orchestra shared this video with us that shows off the sounds of Amidio's latest App, Seline HD. The piece is called Sweet Dream and is an original piece created on the software. We love iPad-made music.

The folks at Amidio make some awesome musical Apps. We've featured them in the past for their Touch DJ App.

You may not have your own full band to create a piece like this one, but if you're interested in Seline HD, it's available at the App Store for $5.99: Link
