Molson Coors Knows What Women Want — Pink Beer

Select names from your address book   |   Help

Written by Christie Thompson, a blogger for Ms. Magazine

It seems ad execs at Molson Coors were looking for a new way to alienate include women. With only 17 percent of Molson Coors’ sales coming from women, company heads knew they had to do something.
But instead of, say, rethinking their exclusively male-targeted ad campaigns for Coors Light (for example), they’ve found a simpler solution: red food coloring. In London this fall, Molson Coors is launching Animée Beer , a new product aimed at that elusive woman beer customer. It’s pink! Problem solved.

In essence, Molson Coors has kept the doors locked on its “no-girls-allowed” beer clubhouse, but poked its head out to say, “Hey look! We set up a crappy flowered tent next door. You guys can hang out there.”

Jeremy Brooks via flickr

The new “beer” comes in three different flavors, clear filtered, crisp rose, and zesty lemon. Molson Coors understands that women would never be interested in drinking beer that tastes like beer. We only drink chardonnay and wine coolers. Guardian columnist Melissa Cole, who taste-tested Animee, writes, “If anyone can identify anything even approaching a normal beer flavour in any of these drinks I’ll eat my hat.”
Product development heads at Molson also know the best way to market to women is to make us self-conscious about our bodies. So their new brew is low-cal and “bloat-resistant.” (What this pseudo-scientific advertising claim actually means is unclear.)

The irony is that for a moment there, it seemed Molson had actually caught onto the fact that they (along with most other beer companies) have been alienating women for decades. A woman spokesperson for the brewery said:
One of the things we need to recognize in the industry is that we’ve effectively ignored 50 percent of the population for many years. There’s something fundamentally wrong with the relationship women have with beer.
If Molson Coors needed help rectifying this, instead of pinkwashing their product, they could have looked at recent marketing survey findings. The number one reason women said they don’t buy beer is because they’re put off by the “inherent sexism in [its] advertising and marketing.” Surprisingly, “beer is an ugly shade of yellow-brown” was nowhere to be found on the list of women’s hangups.

So while Molson Coors claims to have seen the light, this recent product launch proves they’re still as clueless as ever. All I want to know is: Was everyone at Molson Coors drunk when they thought up this latest scheme?

Tall women's salaries leave short girls in the shade

Height advantage: Taller women get paid higher salaries (FILE PHOTO)

It may be a tall order for some women to accept.

But shorter females earn less than their loftier colleagues, a study claims

Those who stand at 5ft8in and above are twice as likely to earn more than £30,000 a year - or up to £5,000 more than their vertically challenged friends.

The researchers asked 1,461 women over the age of 16 to give details about their salary and measurements.

A fifth of those questioned who fell into the 'tall' category said they earned £30,000 and above compared with 10 per cent of women under 5ft8in.

At the same time, 20 per cent of the tall women said they saw their height as a source of 'empowerment and authority' compared with just 5 per cent of shorter females.

And the study revealed that the taller you are, the more comfortable you are likely to be with your body.

A quarter of women over 5ft8in said they would not change anything about themselves.

In contrast, 90 per cent of females in the 'short' category said they were unhappy with their looks, the study for clothing chain Long Tall Sally found.

Arianne Cohen, author of The Tall Book: A Celebration Of Life From On High, said: 'Research shows that tall people are consistently more successful in the workplace.

'Not only do they earn more but they're more likely to be in leadership positions.

'As taller people have a downward eyecast when speaking to shorter colleagues, they are instinctively perceived to have authority and confidence.

'It means that those who are taller are respected by their colleagues and bosses, giving them a thriving atmosphere that leads them to more success.'

"The Hurt Locker" director Kathryn Bigelow has won the Oscar for best director, becoming the first woman ever to achieve the top honor at the Academy Awards.

While her best best-known films were such fare as the vampire pic "Near Dark" and the Patrick Swayze surfing drama "Point Break," the critically-acclaimed "The Hurt Locker" has put Bigelow into a different stratosphere.

She was the first woman to win the Directors Guild of America award for outstanding directorial achievement in a motion picture for "The Hurt Locker." She also won the best director prize at the 2010 British Academy Film Awards.

She was nominated for a Golden Globe but ex-husband James Cameron took the prize for his 3D sci-fi epic "Avatar."

Bigelow was the first female to win a BAFTA Award for best direction and fourth ever to be nominated for an Oscar after Lina Wertmüller for "Seven Beauties" in 1976, Jane Campion for "The Piano" in 1993 and Sofia Coppola for "Lost in Translation" in 2003.

"The Hurt Locker" follows a United States Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team during the Iraq War and stars Anthony Mackie, Brian Geraghty and best actor nominee Jeremy Renner. They star as members of a U.S. Army EOD unit in Iraq and the film tells of their tour together as they contend with defusing bombs and the threat of insurgency.

10 first date rules for guys

This is some very good advice for us single/dating men!!

By Susannah Breslin, The Frisky

Guys should act confident, smile and listen on a first date.
Guys should act confident, smile and listen on a first date.

(The Frisky) -- Ah, first dates. So nerve-wracking. If only you knew exactly what was going to happen, then you could plan out everything in advance. But first dates are kind of like playing the lottery. You've got to be in it to win it, but sometimes you end up empty-handed. If you're a woman, you know these sorts of situations don't always go so smoothly.

If you're a guy, here are 10 tips that can make the first date easier on all of us.

Take charge. We do not want to decide where to go. We will never tell you this, but it is true. Ask us what kind of place and/or food we like; then, pick a place like that. Do not leave it up to us to choose. You are the man. Act like one.

Smile. When we arrive, smile. Maybe you are a tough guy. Maybe you are nervous. Maybe you are paralyzed. Either way, smile. Women are strange, exotic, intuitive creatures, and we respond well to positive reinforcement. Do not glower.

The Frisky: Marry my poor boyfriend?

Mind your body language. If your legs are crossed and your hand is over your mouth, we will unconsciously think you are hiding something. If you are sprawled out all over with your legs spread wide and your hands behind your head, we will think you are a slob or generally loose. Sit up straight, lean in closer, and keep your hands where we can see them.

Ask questions. This seems obvious, but it's surprising how many men don't do this. You know what women like? Attention. Also, kittens, flowers, and cupcakes. Nothing else. If you seem curious about the woman sitting across from you, she will like it. For sure.

Listen. You can't just ask a bunch of questions, and then not listen to the answers. They call this a "date," but, really, for women, it's more like a "test." If you e-mailed or talked on the phone beforehand, remember what the hell she told you about herself. If you forget, we will feel angry and want to leave. Then you will be sorry.

Use flattery, appropriately. If at some point during our meeting, you tell us we are "beautiful," "attractive," or "pretty," we will like you better than if you didn't. It's. Just. That. Simple.

Act confident. We really do not care if you are secretly neurotic, deeply insecure, or mildly nuts. We are interested in how you portray yourself. Act confident, interested, engaged, self-assured, ambitious, and happy. We like that. Thanks.

The Frisky: Tired of waiting for men

No pawing allowed. If you're going to score with us at some point, we will let you know. Trust. Occasional physical contact is OK -- a hand to the small of the back, a touch of the thigh, a brief holding of the arm while making a point. Do not grab anywhere in the red light zones. If we want your hands there, we will put them there.

Please pay. Feminism, shmeminism. Take care of the bill without comment. That is what we want. Wave off any offer to go dutch. We lied. We don't want to pay half.

Say goodnight. Don't meander off into the night. Do something. What -- that is up to you: a handshake, a hug, a kiss. Do it right, and you might get a second date

Dancing girls promote strip club in see-through bus

From: http://www.baynews9.com/

Deja Vu Showgirls strut their stuff on a windowed bus rolling through Bay area streets.

BAY NEWS 9 -- A Tampa strip club has hit the road for a promotional stunt: Déjà Vu Showgirls are dancing in a big windowed bus, which is driving around Bay area streets.

"Of course there is no nudity because it's just advertising. Simple pole dancing," said Eric Terrell, general manager of the strip club.

A number of drivers paid a lot more attention to the bus than the road. Some even took pictures and video with their cell phones. Others were concerned for their own safety.

"The semi comes off the exit ramp -- we're on Dale Mabry -- and is obviously very distracted," said Paige Madison, a driver. "They see like 10 weird people in a see-through truck and like, I was scared, I had to merge over to the left lane because the semi wasn't paying attention."

The dancing women on the bus said they try to avoid offending anyone.

"If we see people we're going to offend, we sit down, because we don't want to offend anybody," said Twee, one dancer.

Although the women on the bus are local, the bus itself is not. Bay News 9 found that officials in Las Vegas had a problem with the same bus, and they eventually banned it.

Now Déjà Vu is sending it across the country. Authorities said it will probably only be in Tampa for a few days before it goes to Miami for Super Bowl week.

15 Sexiest Female Musicians (That Don’t Suck)

by Cowboy
From: http://www.popcrunch.com/

These days, we’re inundated with overly-airbrushed female musicians supported only by their underwires and overproduction. While many lesser-known artists are slowly being recognized by larger audiences, we’d still like to see many more female musicians

in the spotlight who have raw talent — with whatever instrument it may be. Here are 15 incredibly sexy female musicians — that don’t suck.

Jenny Lewis

Jenny Lewis is the primary vocalist of the indie rock band Rilo Kiley, and is one hot ginger. She’s since released two solo albums, and dabbles in indie folk, rock and alternative country. Her vocals ooze raw emotion, and her songwriting is tops, too. It doesn’t hurt that she wears cute little numbers up on stage, either.

Sara Bareilles

Singer-songwriter and noted pianist Sara Bareilles gained mainstream popularity in 2007 with her hit single, Love Song, and we haven’t been able to keep our eyes, or ears, off of her since. This sultry beauty dabbles in pop, pop rock, and soul. A nice plus that you’ll see a lot with the girls on this list — her voice is amazingly versatile and flawless live.

Amy Lee

Amy Lee not only catches the public eye for fronting the rock band Evanescence, but for her stunning looks as well. She often sports corsets and fishnets on stage, but she’s the classiest broad you’ll ever see wearing them. She’s a classically trained pianist, and can also play the harp, organ and guitar. Besides all that, her vocal range is unbelievable — without the help of Autotune.

Sarah Brightman

The word opera doesn’t conjure an alluring image to many in this day and age, but Sarah Brightman definitely changes that for all who experience her music. A British crossover soprano, Brightman is known best for her role as Christine Daae in the original The Phantom of the Opera, a part that was written for her voice. She has a staggering 160 Gold and Platinum awards in 34 countries and a three-octave voice of an angel — with looks to match.

Neko Case

Neko Case, singer-songwriter extraordinaire, is best known for her solo work and contributing work with Canadian indie rock group The New Pornographers. With looks to kill and a voice to match, she’s nabbed a Grammy nomination and remains a champion among women in rock music with a style distinctly her own.

Emilie Simon

Emilie Simon is a beautiful singer-songwriter from France. She brings electronic and experimental influences to the table — along with a light, whispy voice and sexy accompanying accent. Though her musical journey only started in 2003, she has since moved to New York City to take on the rest of the world and shows no sign of stopping any time soon.

KT Tunstall

KT Tunstall, a singer-songwriter and guitarist from Scotland, shot into the mainstream after her stellar performance on the British music television show Later… with Jools Holland. She’s since picked up a Grammy nomination and BRIT Award — along with an engagement ring. We know she’s spoken for, but we can still look.

Hayley Williams

An American singer and songwriter, Hayley Williams fronts the rock band Paramore — best known for singles Misery Business and Decode. The band truly shot into stardom when Decode was featured in Twilight, but Williams truly has a voice that carries it’s own. Hottness doesn’t hurt in the business either — she won Sexiest Female at the Shockwaves NME Awards 2009.

Cat Power

Chan Marshall, AKA Cat Power, is a singer-songwriter known for her amazing, breathy voice, minimalist style, and home-grown beauty. In 2007 she became the first female solo act to win the Shortlist Music Prize when her album, The Greatest, was voted album of the year.

Rachael Yamagata

Japanese-American beauty Rachael Yamagata is a singer-songwriter that has seen great success in her 32 years. Her music is considered blues rock and alternative — and it’s has been featured in shows like Nip/Tuck, Grey’s Anatomy, and How I Met Your Mother. Her looks are classic, and she has a twin, but to our disappointment we found out it’s a guy.

Feist

Leslie Feist, who performs under the name Feist, is a Canadian singer-songwriter known for her solo work, but is also a member of the indie rock group Broken Social Scene. She dabbles in anti-folk and baroque pop — and gained a reputation for putting out some catchy beats. We’d like this Grammy-nominated musician to get feisty with us.

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift was thrust into the spotlight earlier this year when Kanye West interrupted her at the VMAs while she was accepting her award for Best Female Video. Her voice is solid and her songs are highly autobiographical — that night she became the first country singer to ever win a VMA, and solidified her place in our hearts — and pants.

Emily Haines

Emily Haines is best known for her role as vocalist for indie rock band Metric, but has maintained a strong solo career as Emily Haines & the Soft Skeleton. Compared to Metric, her solo work is more mellow and piano-based — which suits her haunting voice perfectly. Born in New Delhi, India and raised in Canada, this musician is worldly, talented, and hot.

Angel Deradoorian

Twenty-two year-old multi-instrumentalist Angel Deradoorian is best known as bass player/vocals for Brooklyn-based experimental rock band Dirty Projectors. This Armenian stunner released her promising solo debut this past May, and proved her musical proficiency — whether it be with vocals, on bass flute or guitar.

Ingrid Michaelson

Cute-as-a-button Ingrid Michaelson is an American singer-songwriter best known for her single The Way I Am, which was featured in Grey’s Anatomy, Scrubs, and the Fall 2007 Old Navy commercial campaign — all of which gave her huge exposure. She picked up piano at age four and hasn’t stopped performing since. We’d like to see her do another duet with Sara Bareilles, actually.
