Gamerator: a Video Game Cabinet with bonus Kegerator
From: http://www.toplessrobot.com/
Behold the Gamerator. It's one of those home arcade cabinets that I've always wanted. It has 85 classic arcade games on it, which isn't a ton but it also comes with a Gametap Gamefly subscription so you can play all those games as well. It has joysticks and buttons and a trackball and yadda yadda yadda. So why am I so excited about the Gamerator when these sorts of things have been available for years?
BECAUSE IT'S ALSO A KEGERATOR. This arcade cabinet also houses "a refrigerated interior capable of holding a pony keg of domestic beer." Without fear of hyperbole, I can say AAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAA AAAAAAA THIS IS THE GREATEST THING IN THE HISTORY OF EVER. Infinite thanks to Vaderfan70 for the tip.keg

Warner Bros. Announces New Mortal Kombat for 2011
New fighter being developed for PS3 and 360, will have tag-team mode and "reinvented" 2D gameplay. See the first trailer.
By Kris Pigna
From: http://www.1up.com/

That live-action Mortal Kombat trailer recently released on YouTube maybe didn't have anything to do with a new Mortal Kombat game, but it makes little difference as Warner Bros. today has coincidentally announced a new Mortal Kombat game anyway. Evidently dubbed simply "Mortal Kombat," the new game is being developed by a new team for release in 2011.
The new team, called NetherRealm Studios, is being guided by original Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon. This new Mortal Kombat promises a "reinvention of its classic 2D fighting mechanic" along with a "new graphics engine." It's a little unclear from the wording, but it sounds like it'll go the Street Fighter 4 route, with 3D visuals but strictly 2D gameplay.
This new entry will also add tag-team modes in addition to standard one-on-one bouts, including a "co-op arcade mode" that has two players teaming up to take on other teams online. Warner Bros. also promises the "deepest story mode of any fighting game" with a return of "iconic warriors" from past Mortal Kombat games, but no specific characters are mentioned. And of course, there will also be a return of Fatalities.
"This game really is a response to what players have been demanding: mature presentation, reinvented 2D fighting mechanic and the best, most gruesome fatalities ever," said Boon in a statement.
Mortal Kombat is being developed for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and other than 2011, no more-specific release date was announced. But as usual with just about every new game announcement these days, we wouldn't be surprised to find out even more about it at E3 next week.

GoldenEye Remake for Wii and DS Leaked by Activision
I thought waiting 12 years for a StarCraft sequel was bad, but it turns out we've actually been waiting 13 years for a GoldenEye remake, and we didn't even know it was coming. Many companies have wanted to remake the game, and everybody else has wanted to play it, but it's always been held up by red tape. The James Bond License was bought by Electronic Arts in 1999, and then by Activision in 2007. However, the original GoldenEye 007 game for the Nintendo 64 was owned by Nintendo and Rare, and Rare is now owned by Microsoft, leading to a tragic custody battle over the years. Microsoft wouldn't let Nintendo re-release the original on the Wii's Virtual Console, and Nintendo wouldn't let Rare remake it for the 360's XBLA. Now we know why. Activision has their own remake ready, and it's exclusively for Nintendo's Wii and DS systems.
GoNintendo received an anonymous tip about a leaked Activision survey, with pictures of two covers for a Wii game, a golden Classic Controller, and a new Wii Zapper modeled after the infamous Golden Gun. It also had this tasty quote, revealing that the game will have improved graphics and physics, 8 player online multiplayer, and Daniel Craig will be replacing Pierce Brosnan:
But that's not all. Then Eurogamer got their own anonymous tip, learning that the game is about to be announced at E3 and will be released in November. It is being co-developed by the UK-based Eurocom and the US-based n-Space. Eurocom previously worked on another Nintendo 64 Bond game, The World Is Not Enough, and n-Space has worked on some Duke Nukem titles, Geist, and the DS Call of Duty games. We'll have to wait until E3's official announcement, but I think we can assume that Eurocom will be developing the Wii title while n-Space develops the DS title.
I'm not sure how I feel about Daniel Craig sneaking into my pre-Craig Bond games, but then again Casino Royale was a remake of Bond's first adventure so maybe that makes GoldenEye post-Craig Bond? I'm not sure. Either way it's not that important, since Pierce Brosnan never fought Oddjob or Mayday, and it was still great fun in the 1997 game.
Like all late 90's attempts at photorealistic humans and environments, the graphics did age rather poorly over the years. But the gameplay was as solid as they come, and very deserving of a facelift with today's technology. It will be interesting to see how the younger generation of FPS gamers, those who grew up on franchises like Halo and Call of Duty, react to the grandaddy of console FPS games making its triumphant return. It was the best-selling FPS on a home console for 7 years after all, until Halo 2 took its crown. And it's still frequently referred to as the greatest game adaptation of a film ever made.
Personally, I can't wait to see the game's DK and paintball modes with today's graphics, or how many enemies they'll fit on the screen when a security alarm goes off. Klobbs in the Caverns anyone? RCP-90s in the Facility? Rocket launchers in the basement? 1 on 1, Aztec, Slappers Only? Speedruns of the Facility level are going to be all the rage, again.

It's On Like Donkey Kong: New York Doc Sets World Record
All hail the new king
By HASANI GITTENS
FROM http://www.nbcnewyork.com/

He's the new king of Kong.
New York City's own Hank Chien, a 35-year-old plastic surgeon based in Queens has just been crowned the Lord of the Barrels -- having just set a new world record in the classic arcade game Donkey Kong.
Chien's score, 1,061,700 points racked up in just 2 hours and 35 minutes was verified by Twin Galaxies, the official keepers of DK records since 1981.
Chien surpassed the men who inspired him: rabid gamers Steve Wiebe and Billy, whose rivalry was chronicled in the 2007 documentary "The King of Kong."

"Well basically, after I saw the documentary, started playing just for fun," Chien told NBCNewYork.com from his offices at Vogue Plastic Surgery in Flushing. "For a little over a year, maybe a year and three or four months."
Chien, a native of Forest Hills who know lives on the East Side of Manhattan said he started practicing in Barcade, Brooklyn's finest arcade-bar, sometimes playing three hours at a time.
"I improved very quickly," said Chien. "I collaborated with a lot of very good players -- now with the Internet you can talk to good players and share tips."
Eventually though, he had to move beyond Barcade's machine -- which isn't "official" because it plays both Donkey Kong and the less-popular Donkey Kong Jr.
"When things started getting serious I said enough is enough, I gotta buy my own machine."
After scouring eBay and Craigslist for about two months Chien found a DK machine in good quality for only about $400 (the surgeon said had to put in another $200 worth of "cosmetic" improvements after buying).
For his official run the dexterous doctor played on his own machine and ended the game on the famed "kill screen" glitch that does not allow play to continue. Officials from Twin Galaxies came to his house to make sure everything was on the up and up.
Chien's new scoring mark beats the 1,050,200 point record score set by Mitchell at the live event in Florida in July 2007 that was featured in the "King of Kong" movie.
The good doctor believes that there is a correlation between surgeons and video game players -- and was even part of a study in 2004 proving it.
"[But] I don't think that practicing video games will make you a good surgeon," he said. "It's more likely that people who have good hand eye coordination are good at both."

Tecmo Super Bowl to be revived as Tecmo Bowl Throwback on Xbox 360 and PS3
From: http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/
Fans of the classic football game franchise, Tecmo Super Bowl, are cheering.
Game publisher Tecmo officially announced on Tuesday a downloadable console game based on the Nintendo classic. The Entertainment Software Rating Board ruined the surprise a couple weeks ago when it leaked info about the game before the publisher was ready to hike.
Tecmo Bowl Throwback is a remake of the Super Nintendo game that redefined the genre. We called the original, along with Super Mario Bros. and Legend of Zelda (excluding Oregon Trail), a timeless classic.
Throwback will be available via download in the spring on Microsoft's Xbox Live Arcade and Sony's PlayStation Network. Players will be able to play online against friends, who can debate whether to set the play mode to the new 3-D or old-school 2-D graphic style. Online leaderboards will track stats.
Unlike the original, the game will not feature actual NFL team and player names. That's because Electronic Arts has an exclusive agreement with the league, led by its dominating Madden franchise. Throwback will instead allow players to customize names and uniforms.
Other games have tried to wiggle into the huge football gaming market without the blessing of the NFL and have mostly failed.
All-Pro Football 2K8, the spiritual successor to the NFL 2K series and ESPN games, saw one iteration before disappearing. Blitz: The League, which tried to make up for a lack of NFL endorsement with edgy content like steroid use, likewise did not gain a major following.
A new entrant called Backbreaker will try its hand in May, relying on visual magic to woo gamers. But Tecmo is hoping to capitalize on the warm and fuzzy feelings many have about their first digital football love.
In the Throwback news release, the company adds that the game has been rated "E for everyone" by the ESRB. The publisher somehow managed not to refer to the ratings board as "blabbermouths."

Old Nintendo System & 5 Games Sells for $13,105 on eBay

As awesome as Turtles 2 and Mario 3 is; they’re not the game that’s banging in the $13,000 on this auction. The rare game of the 5 is Stadium Events. Some have suggested only about 2,000 were produced and sold. A recall has reduced the total amount in households to maybe 200. The numbers are only estimates, the actual figure is unknown. The box itself is about 75% of the of the $13k and according to Wikipedia, Stadiun Events is named #6 on a list of 20 “Holy Grails of Console Gaming”, a list that covered all gaming systems in all countries.
From the auction:
Up for auction is an original Nintendo NES gaming system with 1 hand control. There are 5 games with it. They are, Family & Fitness Stadium Events in the original box with the dust jacket inside of the box, Major League Baseball in the original box with the dust jacket inside of the box, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 the arcade game in the original box with the dust jacket inside of the box, Super Mario 3 in the original box with the dust jacket inside of the box and the original game, Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt. I have had this stored in the closet for years for my kids to play but the way that electronics come & go and change from one year to the next they wanted all of the new hot items of their own now and now it’s time to get rid of things that are no longer being used or wanted. This system worked perfect when i stored it but somehow over the years, we have managed to misplace the AC cord & the television hook up. I am listing this and selling without hook up but it I find them, i’ll send them along with the rest at no additional charges to you. Please keep in mind though that any ac cord will work with this and the hook up from a VCR would hook it up just as well as the original cords!

30 Rare & Expensive Gamecube Games
Very interesting find. Gamecube games selling for over $200
The Gamecube had it's share of rare and collectible games during it's six year life span. Below is a list of rarest and most expensive Gamecube games.
The list is ranked by highest sales price over the last three months. All the games are not rare (hard to find with small quantities available), but relative to demand all of these are in short supply.
NCAA College Basketball 2K3

The rarest game for the Gamecube. NCAA Basketball 2K3 is a college basketball game on the Gamecube so it wasn't destined to sell very well. Sega helped seal the deal when they cancelled all 2K series games on the Gamecube and stopped this game in the middle of production. This is one of the few sports games to become rare and valuable on any system.

Phantasy Star Online Plus

Phantasy Star Online Plus is a rerelease of the Phantasy Star Online game for Gamecube (also on this list). The Plus version fixed a few bugs in the intial release and added a few extra areas. The game sold poorly because it was an online game released after everyone realized the Gamecube's online was dead on arrival.

Digimon Rumble Arena 2

Digimon Rumble Arena 2 is similar to Super Smash Bros in gameplay but uses the Digimon characters. Its a sequel to the original Digimon Rumble Arena but did not sell as well as the original. The game received a lukewarm reception from critics but is still valued by collectors.
