Rodman Delivers Emotional Hall of Fame Speech

From: http://thehoopdoctors.com/

In advance of Friday night’s Hall of Fame induction ceremony, we told you that Dennis Rodman planned on arriving in Springfield, Massachusetts by way of helicopter, and that he had a brand new pair of exclusive HOF kicks. Even though other notables, such as Artis Gilmore and Chris Mullin were being enshrined as well, most of the focus was on Rodman.

When it was time for his speech, I didn’t know what to expect. Rodman is probably one of the most unique individuals to ever play professional sports, so the anticipation alone was enough to tune in. But I certainly didn’t expect what I saw Friday night. I don’t believe we have ever seen him open up the way he did during his speech. It was a complete 180 from the antagonistic player that he was. But, it was very refreshing to see him in that light.

Michael Jordan Tribute Video ‘Invincible’

http://thehoopdoctors.com/

Quite simply, this mix is the greatest tribute to ‘The GOAT’ Michael Jordan I’ve ever seen on YouTube by an NBA Mixmaster. Back in December 2010 we showed you the trailer for this tribute video by LK12Productions. It will give any fan of the game goosebumps just watching:

The Women Of The Lingerie Basketball League Know All About Penetration

File this under under both great news and awesome trends: a lingerie basketball league called the LBL has sprung up, presumably because of the success of the LFL, the Lingerie Football League (aherrrrrm, which airs on MTV2). At this rate there will be lingerie hockey, baseball and soccer leagues by 2014, to which we say: nods approvingly.

The LBL appears to be governed by traditional basketball rules, the only difference being that they women wear lingerie, not shorts and jerseys. Bet you didn't see that coming. Keeping with the lingerie/babe theme, the four current teams, all based out of Los Angeles, are named the Glam, Beauties, Divas and Starlets. The young league is now two weeks into its inaugural season. You may be thinking, "hey, the WNBA has floundered and they have some pretty good players," but that ignores a simple truth--that men like women's boobies much, much more than women's basketball.

We hope by now you're ready for the league's tagline. Here goes: "Where beauty meets the hardwood." Yep, they went there. Now take a gander at more of the LBL's lovely ladies.

Is this the Greatest Dunk Ever?

On July 6 2011, at Rucker Park NYC, perhaps the greatest dunk ever was thrown down. T-DUB is only 5’9 and he gets soooo high off the ground. Even though it is a relatively simple dunk… many people are calling it the greatest dunk they have ever seen. Thoughts?

NBA Stars Put On a Show in the Philippines

By: Kevin Burke
From:  http://thehoopdoctors.com/

Thus far, this summer has proven to be one of the most active off-seasons, in terms of established NBA players playing competitive ball, that I can remember in a long time. We told you last week that the Goodman and Drew Leagues will battle next month in DC with some key names involved, and over the weekend, NBA stars participated in “Ultimate All-Star Weekend” in the Philippines and put on a show for the home crowd.
This flew under the radar for the most part and was actually streamed on-line in the wee hours of the morning in the U.S. due to the time difference.  But, when I say NBA stars participated, I mean that. Kobe Bryant, Derrick Rose, Kevin Durant and Chris Paul were just four of the NBA players that took on the Philippine’s Basketball Association’s select team on Saturday and Smart Gilas Philipinas on Sunday. The games were held in the same arena where Muhammad Ali fought Joe Frazier in 1975 in the “Thrilla in Manila” and in attendance was native son, Manny Pacquiao. The NBA representatives swept the mini 2-game series and here are some highlights:
Durant off the glass to Harden

Kobe alley-oop to Rose

And in attempt to restore order in the world, I won’t include the video of JaVale McGee planking on the court during the game.

MJ’s Son Marcus Jordan Leads Central Florida to Hot Start

From: http://thehoopdoctors.com/

January 12, 2011 – Kevin Burke
Can you imagine the pressure on the son of the greatest man to ever touch a basketball? Can you even fathom the basketball scrutiny and critique with which he much endure daily? No matter what type of player he would turn out to be, he would forever be compared to his father.  If nothing else, Marcus Jordan has shown so far this year that he has game and that he can lead a squad. Jordan’s University of Central Florida Knights have quietly gotten off to a 14 – 1 start this season and that’s thanks in large part to him.
UCF is off to their best start in their Division I history and are one of only seven teams to be undefeated after their first 14 games, before losing to Houston over the weekend. In a game last week against Marshall, MJ 2.0 dropped 26 points including 18 in the second half. Before their winning streak came to an end a few days ago, Jordan reacted to the attention the streak was receiving:
“We’re trying to not even think about the streak. We just want to go out and win the next game. Whenever the streak ends, it ends. But we’re trying to keep that from happening.”
Defense is actually what propelled the Knights to their hot start. In that same game against Marshall, UCF held them to under 30% shooting from the field and UCF had 11 total blocks as a team.
“Our defense has been our staple all year long and that’s the thing we’ve focused on. Everybody thinks we’re an offensive team, but the thing we preach the most is defense”, said head coach Donnie Jones.
After enduring an investigation this past summer due to an alleged gambling incident, Jordan, a sophomore, who has led the team in scoring seven times this year, is the Knights’ leading scorer at a 16.3ppg clip. That is more than double his freshman output of 8ppg where he earned a spot on Conference USA’s All-Freshman team.
The team just recently lost to Houston over the weekend, 76 – 71, but they are off to a blistering start. While not quite his father, Marcus has definitely shown that he has similar leadership qualities as the elder Jordan. In fact, earlier in the year, he also showed us that he can certain get up too.

Dude Perfect’s New Upper Deck Shot at Cowboys Stadium

By: Allen Moll
From: http://thehoopdoctors.com/

The man, the myth, the legend known as the self proclaimed “King of the Trick Shot” Dude Perfect has been on our radar at TheHoopDoctors.com for some time now as he continually keeps amazing us with his innate trick shot abilities with a basketball.

Even back when we first showed you his ‘09 Summer Camp Edition two Summers ago, we knew this guy had potential as a legendary trick shot artist.

Over the past few years Dude has been adding to his legacy by nailing many improbable long distance shots like these tosses earlier this year when he sinks shots from a moving plane, through a giant donut, and off of a high story building.

With so many competitors now on the horizon like David Kalb and that guy sank a hole-in-one with a basketball, all eying the crown as the World’s Greatest Trick Shot Artist, Dude is going back to his roots by attempting to one-up the shot that originally went viral and made him an internet star….nailing a shot from the 3rd deck at Texas A&M’s football field.

Of course, if you want to go one better than that, one must go to the NFL’s largest outdoor venue: Cowboys Stadium.

Check out Dude Perfect nailing the new World’s Longest Basketball Shot at Cowboys Stadium:

10th Grader Aaron Gordon’s In-Game 360 Off the Backboard

From: http://thehoopdoctors.com/

If you think it’s a typo, you are mistaken. Rising Class of 2013 power/small forward Aaron Gordon is one of the most athletic players in the sophomore class. If you recognize the last name, Aaron is the younger brother of former UCLA stand-out Drew Gordon, who recently transfered to the University of New Mexico.

The younger Gordon is the #23 rated prospect in the entire ‘13 Class, but has the skills to be a Top 10 talent by his senior season. At 6‘7 and 215 lbs, Aaron uses his already large frame to overpower smaller defenders, but also has above average hands and passing skills to either drop a dime or drive right by larger opponents.

Surely Gordon is not finished growing as he should add a few inches and gain a few more pounds to become a top tier big man come 2013. Even at the ripe age of 15, Aaron is receiving lots of high major interest from all the big time programs out West like Cal, Arizona, Stanford, Washington, and of course SEC powerhouse Kentucky.

We here at TheHoopDoctors.com will be keeping our eye on Aaron.

Check out Aaron first pulling off a sweet windmill before finishing off an amazing 360 jam off an alley-oop pass off the backboard:

Worlds Farthest Basketball Shot [VIDEO]

Evan Sellers from The Legendary Shots throws a ball from the top of the Vulcan monument in Birmingham, Alabama. To our knowledge, this is the farthest shot (direct distance from shooter to goal) ever made. Whether it's also the longest (horizontal distance) is debatable

1988-89 Detroit Pistons are the most hated team in NBA history

From: http://sports.yahoo.com/

The Germans call it schadenfreude, it means "pleasure derived from others' misfortunes" and outside of your favorite team or player winning something, it's one of the best things about being a fan. Sure, it's kind of silly to actively root against someone or something, but it's also irresistable. Hating other teams is a natural and occasionally fulfilling part of sports.

Some teams are hated more than others. Some teams just get so far under everyone's skin that they become the team everyone loves to hate, driving away casual fans in droves. Eventually, only the team's die-hards remain, leaving them to fight an us-against-the-world battle for respect. And according to Sports Illustrated, one NBA team in the 60 year history of the league stands head and shoulders above all other basketball teams — the 1988-89 Detroit Pistons.

Between the joy of Magic and the majesty of Michael was the dark and frightening rise of the Bad Boys. They threw hip checks like the Red Wings and were as mean as any boxer in Kronk Gym. Outside the state of Michigan, you wanted these guys in handcuffs. Never has an NBA team been so easy to detest, what with Rick Mahorn throwing forearms, Dennis Rodman elbows and Bill Laimbeer fits. (Somewhere, Laimbeer is probably still whining to the refs). Worst thing about them? They were a great basketball team. For all their roughhousing, the Pistons could light up the scoreboard with anyone -- Isiah Thomas flashing that sneaky grin as he beat you off the dribble, Joe Dumars locking up opponents and knocking down threes, Vinnie (Microwave) Johnson throwing in jumpers from everywhere. Fact is, the Pistons helped end two dynasties (Magic Johnson's Lakers and Larry Bird's Celtics) and delayed the start of a third (Michael Jordan's Bulls). They were bullies in basketball togs, but they could play.

Gross. Get out of here, Detroit Pistons, with your punching, kneeing and general jerkishness. Congratulations on your championship, but you are a very annoying team that people only like when they are trying to illustrate how soft today's NBA is. P.S. Your shorts are way too short and your star point guard eventually became a terrible general manager. Burn.

The Pistons finished second overall on SI's list, besting the 1993-94 New York Knicks who came in 7th. Also included are the 2000-01 Trailblazers (21) and this coming season's iteration of the Miami Heat (25), which might climb a few notches in the next year. The 2004 men's Olympic team also cracked the list (20), which isn't surprising considering that team featured both Allen Iverson(notes) and Stephon Marbury(notes).

All things considered, I'd say Sports Illustrated made a fine choice for the most hated team in NBA history. It's hard to argue against a team that everyone but Detroit fans hated. However, I'd dock them a few points since people look back fondly on their rugged defense and team attitude. Personally, I'd vote for those 93-94 Knicks who were wholly unpleasant. From their sweaty superstar to their black shoes and white socks look, everything about that team was no fun. Well, the fact that they had a guy named "Herb" was pretty cool for a 10-year-old, but other than that, nothing.

Little Girl With Impressive Between-the-Legs Dunk

Have you ever seen a girl of about 10 or 11 (maybe 12, who knows) take a basketball between her legs in midair and then slam it home?

You’re about to.

I guarantee this will be the most entertaining video you see all day. (Unless, of course, you work for any kind of child safety organization…)

World's tallest teenage girl: 6ft 11 ins, size 11 feet

Towering over her teacher and friends 16-year-old Marvadene Anderson stands six feet eleven inches tall making her the world's tallest teenage girl.

Currently studying under a scholarship at Rutgers Preparatory School in New Jersey, Marvadene is terrorising opposition teams across the state playing for the school basketball team.

Originally from Jamaica, Marvadene is five inches taller than her idol, the basketball legend Michael Jordan.
Marvadene, weighs 15st and wears size 11 shoes, and it seems it runs in the family as her older sister, Kimberly, is 6ft 4in and calls her sister the "baby giant."

"Marvadene is wonderful addition to the school and the basketball team here," said JJ Quenault, 42, a teacher at Rutgers Preparatory School.

"The other girls were stunned by her height when they first met her and I must admit so was I, but now she is almost irreplaceable in the team.

"She is going to be a star in the world of girls' basketball and even though she has only recently adapted to basketball from netball, we expect a big future from her."

Attending classes at the New Jersey school, Marvadene is used to towering over her teachers.
"I work in the school photographic department and so have taken a few pictures of Marvadene," said JJ.
"To see her standing over her teacher Peter Richardson is quite amusing, as he is five foot eight and she of course is the world's tallest teenage girl at 6ft 11in."

Marvadene took the title from Thai national Malee Duangdee who stands at 6ft 10in.
"People are friendly with me because of my height and my personality. If I was tall and mean, I think I'd have a problem," she said.

"The rudest thing anybody ever said about my height is that I'm not going to be able to find a husband."

5th Grader Jaylin Fleming is a Mini Derrick Rose

By: Dr. Browntorious
From: http://thehoopdoctors.com/

Jaylin Fleming Derrick Rose Prodigy
5th Grade Baller Jaylin Fleming is from Chicago. Since Fleming is only 5′1″ tall, and he generally plays with kids up to nearly twice his age, he needs to be quick, and he needs to have handles. Mad handles. Who better for a 5th grader to look up to than Derrick Rose from his hometown Chicago Bulls. I hear Derrick Rose has a decent handle of his own, right?

The ‘mini-me’ comparisons are bound to happen between Rose and Fleming, especially after Rose recently agreed to meet and shoot around with the little fella.

But Fleming is nothing like an average kid his age. He is puttin’ in work on the hardwood. He lives, breathes, sleeps, and eats nothing but hoops. We thought we were hoop heads here at The Hoop Doctors, but we got nothing on this kids love for the game. And it’s starting to pay off already for him.

Aside from already being a YouTube sensation for the following video giving you a sneak peek into his lifestyle and work ethic, Jaylin is rated by many scouts as the top player for his age in the entire country. I wouldn’t be surprised if college programs already have this kid on their radar a whopping 8 years shy of when Jaylin will be ready to sign a letter of intent.

Vince Carter Breaks Dwight Howard's Guinness World Record

You may remember that Dwight Howard broke a Guinness World Record at the All-Star Game for hitting a shot from 52 feet while sitting down. Then someone named Dustin Leach made a video with the overused theme from Kill Bill proving that he's hit a shot from more than 53 feet away.

But they've both now been topped by Vince Carter, who made a shot from 86 feet (!) while sitting down at today's Magic practice. Prediction: Matt Barnes will eventually make one from 150 feet and end the competition forever.
