Schweddy Balls Boycott: One Million Moms Angered Over Ben & Jerry's 'SNL' Flavor

The humorless, fun-averse conservative group One Million Moms, an offshoot of the American Family Association, is -- once again -- none too pleased with frozen treat liberals, Ben & Jerry's. The very vanilla organization is calling for a boycott of the ice cream maker's new, buzzy flavor, the "Saturday Night Live" skit-inspired Schweddy Balls.

In a public letter sent to its members, the organization acknowledges the origin of the rum-tinted, malt ball-filled flavor, describing the Alec Baldwin-starring NPR spoof skit in great detail.

He then explains that he sells popcorn balls, cheese balls, rum balls--balls for every taste--and the ball puns proceed for about four minutes. Ben & Jerry's chose to go with fudge-covered rum and malt balls for their flavor. The skit culminates in Baldwin stating that "No one can resist my Schweddy Balls."

Then, they make a point to air out their dairy delight grievances, including another rejection of any sort of gay-themed treat.

In the past, Ben & Jerry's has released controversial ice creams, like a special edition of Chubby Hubby called Hubby Hubby last year which celebrated gay marriage. It seems that offending customers has become an annual tradition for Ben & Jerry's.

The ice cream is being released in a limited batch, which means it will be distributed nationwide but only for three or four months. If it proves popular, another batch might be forthcoming, but we hope not.

Finally, a call to action, asking for vigilance in the face of a full frontal ball assault.

Please send Ben & Jerry's Public Relations Manager, Sean Greenwood, an email letter requesting that no additional Schweddy Balls ice cream be distributed. Also, highly recommend they refrain from producing another batch with this name or any other offensive names or you will no longer be able to purchase their products.

MONTPELIER, Vt.—Ben & Jerry's is unveiling a new flavor, and it doesn't sound too tasty.

"Schweddy Balls" is an homage to an old "Saturday Night Live" skit featuring Alec Baldwin as bakery owner Pete Schweddy, whose unique holiday offerings included something called "Schweddy Balls."

Sean Greenwood, a spokesman for the Vermont ice cream maker, said Thursday that the company isn't worried about offending people with the name. He says one of the company's principles is to do fun things and that it fits in with that, just as it did with previous flavors like Karamel Sutra and Half Baked.

The new flavor is available at scoop shops and supermarkets. It consists of vanilla ice cream, rum, fudge-covered rum balls and milk chocolate malt balls.

Today we catch wind of a strange and hilarious potential development from the Ben & Jerry's camp, who may or may not be developing a new "Schweddy Balls"-themed flavor in honor of the enduring SNL skit starring Ana Gasteyer, Molly Shannon, and Alec Baldwin in a career-defining role as Pete "Schweddy Balls" Schweddy.

Gayster casually let this little bomb slip during an interview with New York 1: "It has this crazy, massive popularity that’s kind of had a half life since I left the show. Ben and Jerry's is coming out with a schweddy balls ice cream for Christmas this year.” Whoa! Bowery Boogie says the flavor will arrive sometime in September and run through Christmas, but a Ben & Jerry's rep we spoke to would neither confirm nor deny the move, explaining "we like all of our new flavors to have an element of surprise."

World's First Amphibious Ice Cream Truck Spotted In London! (VIDEO)

It’s not everyday you see an amphibious ice cream truck, but that’s exactly what we’re looking at.  This water-logged treat machine was spotted cruising through the rivers of London on June 1st in celebration of National Ice Cream Week.

Delivering ice-cold summer treats to beach goers and everyone else enjoying the outdoors this summer isn’t this truck’s only mission. According to DailyMail, the truck delivers ice cream by land and sea to raise awareness of the UK’s troubled ice cream truck business. Due to increasing restrictions ice cream trucks are banned from some public places and have seen quite a decline because of it.




The ice cream truck was commissioned by Cadbury and while it may only be floating around London for the time being, there are plans for a national tour. In fact, The HMS Flake 99 may even make its way through the rivers of Venice. Check out the video below if you want to see this one-of-a-kind ice cream truck in action.

A London ice cream parlor says it plans to serve up sugary confections made from human breast milk so everyone can experience the "miracle of motherhood," according to Reuters.

"What could be more natural than fresh, free-range mother's milk in an ice cream?" said Victoria Hiley, one of the 15 women who donated their mammary milk.

Hiley has a point, at least when it comes to little ones. Breast-fed babies gain natural protection against stomach problems, asthma, diabetes, respiratory infections and childhood leukemia, according to the government's Office on Human Health. And a recent study found that 900 babies and billions of dollars would be saved each year if 90 percent of American women breast-fed their babies for the first six months of life.
But what happens when adults drink from mom's soft serve? Is the stuff safe?

There's no evidence that "occupational exposure" to breast milk can spread HIV or hepatitis B, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. But since mothers can spread HIV to their babies through breast milk, the CDC says people working in milk banks can wear gloves as a precaution.

No word on what steps the parlor has taken to lick any potential risks.

Pot ice cream has finally made it to shelves in Santa Cruz, California. That’s right, a marijuana dispensary there has developed half-pints of weed infused ice cream that will get you baked without all the bongs and whistles. Take that Ben and Jerry!

The current flavors owner Jonathan Kolodinski offers at Creme De Canna, which opened last week, are Banannabis Foster, Straw-Mari Cheesecake and TRIPle Chocolate Brownie. Kolodinski said more flavors are in the works.

OK, those flavors sound pretty good, but honestly, will people really want pot in their ice cream?

“Everybody who’s tried it has said they absolutely love it. A lot of people come back for seconds, thirds and fourths,” Kolodinksi said.

That’s a dangerous precedent you’re setting for people. It’s like the best of both worlds for hungry stoners. They’ve been trying hard for years to come up with adequate sustenance that would let them get rid of the munchies while also getting them even more high. Could this be the start of a vicious cycle? Weed smokers that eat ice cream, then when they are hungry they eat ice cream and then they get even higher, meaning that they’ll need to eat even more ice cream when those munchies kick in, until… well, until they come back for thirds and fourths.

Klodinski said there are about two to four doses of cannabis for each half-pint, which means finishing one would be similar to smoking an eighth of high-grade marijuana, the equivalent of eight joints.

Yikes. So gaining a few while eating a half a pint now isn’t your biggest concern when eating ice cream. Now you have to worry that you’ll be higher than you ever have been in your life. Things like taking your pants off and going for a walk or watching a marathon of Designing Women at 5am seem like moderately good ideas after downing a pint.

At $15 a piece, the half-pints of ice cream are potent.

And it’s actually quite affordable. Well, all I can say is look out Baskin Robbins, if they legalize pot in California in November you may be getting a 32nd flavor.

LONDON — The world's first ice cream van for dogs will open for business at a "pet party" in London's Regent's Park on Saturday.

The van will serve canine-friendly flavors such as "Dog Eat Hog World" — a chicken and gammon sorbet — and "Canine Cookie Crunch," a more traditional vanilla ice cream, albeit sprinkled with dog biscuits.

"The weather has been so hot, we thought dogs deserved a cooling treat as much as anyone else," said Sally Bezant of event organizer Boomerang Pets Party.

She said a team of pet nutritionists had been through a complicated scientific process to determine the tastiest and safest flavors for the dogs' dessert.

And although the unusual flavors were tested on a panel of dogs, they can be eaten by humans.

"It's safe for humans ... I've tried it myself," she told Reuters, adding, perhaps diplomatically, that doggie ice-cream tasted "different."

If you happen to be going to Cannes this summer (and, really, if you aren't, you should be) mega-conglomerate Unilever is ready to tempt you with a treat straight out of Minority Report. The company has set up a vending machine that lets anyone who walks by score some free ice cream. The price? Just smile for the machine's facial recognition software, which will determine your age, gender and emotion. Only the most happy will get ice cream. The rest? We don't really know, but we seem to remember something having to do with stolen eyeballs that can be used to trick such systems.

The "Share Happy" machine can sense when it's being approached, and "captures and measures your smile 15 times a second, and when it's wide enough, rewards you with ice cream." Once you hit the jackpot, you can share your winning smile with friends via Facebook. As to who Unilever's sharing it with, and what they're doing with it, we can only imagine. But, hey, free ice cream seems like a fair price for helping educate the smart machines and help them build their dossier, right?
