Pig over Battersea Power Station for Why Pink Floyd launch

Pig over Battersea Power Station for Why Pink Floyd launch

The official Pink Floyd Facebook page has created an Event listing for a meeting at Battersea Power Station in London where the famous Animals front cover was created. For those of you that don't use Facebook, an Event is something you can list on Facebook and invite people to attend like an RSVP online.

Back in 1976, a giant inflatable pig was tethered onto one of the cooling towers which Storm Thorgerson then took a photo of to become part of the artwork for the Animals album. This is shown here on the right. The pig, however, managed to become un-tethered and fly off!

The event created on Facebook is called Pigs On A Wing and does not mention what the event is about or what is happening. There is no hint about what could be going on. However, it has been speculated that the famous scene of the Pig being tethered to the cooling towers will be recreated! This is just speculation though.

Edited 22/09/2011 - EMI Music have just confirmed that on Monday (26th September) they will launch the 'Why Pink Floyd…?' 2011 remasters and collectors edition campaign by recreating the legendary Pink Floyd 'Animals' sleeve and float the Pink Floyd Pig above Battersea Power Station. This will be the first time in 35 years that the Pink Floyd Pig will fly again above the iconic London landmark. For more details visit PinkFloyd.com

The event is happening between 6am and 9am on the morning of the release of Why Pink Floyd Phase 1 which includes Dark Side of the Moon in Experience and Immersion editions as well as the normal Discovery version of the albums bother as single albums and box set.

Come and Discuss Pigs on a Wing event on the forum and let us know your thoughts on the Event!

How To Make a Bacon Candle

By Eran Abramson
From  http://walyou.com/how-to-make-a-bacon-candle/

Bacon just seems to be getting more and more popular, moving away from just a food item into various gadgets, designs and even DIY. This time around, it seems that Bacon can also provide some romance, with the Bacon grease candle diy.

In these images found at EatLiver, any Bacon lover can see the steps of making your love for Bacon even more romantic; using the grease to create a Bacon candle. I personally have not made it or tried it, but it seems like a great solution to bring the Bacon scent to any room in the house.

An ode to the McRib sandwich, which disappears again December 5

mcrib.jpg

The McRib sandwich will be ripped from our hands, and our hearts, on December 5, cruelly taken away by the McDonald's corporation.
Here is a poem I wrote to express my grief:
Is it the bun or the barbecue sauce?
Which every year makes me mourn the loss.
I will miss your pre-formed patty, filled with what I hoped was meat,
and how I always said, "There are worse things I could eat."
You had 500 calories, 240 from fat,
but I'm an American, so who cares about that?
I ate you with fries, and sometimes a Coke,
and the heartburn you gave me was far from a joke.
You stained my favorite shirt, and the seat of my car,
but you were my best friend whenever I left the bar.
I wanted you forever, but you left really fast,
like all of my boyfriends, you just didn't last.
Your pickles were crisp, and your onions thick,
all those who didn't love you can go suck a.......!
Will you be back? I hope that you will.
because I still have plenty of intestines to kill.
I will drive past McDoo and try not to cry,
because I have only a sticky box to remember you by.

Until we eat again....

Solving The McRib Mystery: McDonald's Employees Tell Us What's In The Seasonal Sandwich

From http://blogs.laweekly.com/

The McRib is Back

Unless you've been living under a rock -- or in line at LudoBites 6.0 -- you may have heard that McDonald's McRib sandwich is back. The story seems to be everywhere: in national magazines, in local newsletters, and there's even a McRib Locator where fans of the sandwich report recent "sightings" of the eagerly anticipated menu item.

Since we're not typically ones to trade our gastropub grass-fed beef for fast food's processed variety, we visited four L.A. area McDonald's and quizzed drive-through employees about what's in the McRib, why it's so popular, and exactly how the boneless meat get its signature "rib" shape.

McDonald's describes its 500-calorie sandwich, which first debuted in 1981 and has made limited-time, seasonal appearances ever since, as perfect for people who "love flavorful pork and tangy barbeque sauce," and "who don't mind getting sticky." Hmmm. According to the "Legends of McRib" video on McDonald's website, McRib lovers of times long past included Cleopatra, Benjamin Franklin, William Shakespeare and Christopher Columbus, who all appear sporting tangy barbeque-stained mouths and clothing. While these faux McRib fans might give the sandwich a more storied history, they're not able to tell us about its ingredients, taste, texture or McRib's mystery meat. Errr, pork.

McDonald's employees, on the other hand, are well-versed when it comes to the McRib. On cue, each drive-through employee asked, "Welcome to McDonald's. Would you like to try the McRib?" Why, yes we would. But first, we need to know what's in the sandwich. This is where the employees' united front fell apart.

Answers varied from "Frozen pork patty," to "Deep fried pork," to "Pressed pork." Perhaps the most comprehensive answer was, "A boneless pork patty that's deep-fried and then slathered with tangy barbecue sauce, topped with pickles and onions and served on a warm roll." While (part of) that sounds delicious, not one employee was able to explain how the McRib gets its signature "rib" shape. At store after store they each shrugged their shoulders and said, "I have no idea." One did speculate, however, that "it must be magic."

Despite what's in it or how it's technically made, all of the employees' faces lit up when we asked if they think the McRib tastes good. Unanimously, the employees' proclaimed their love for the sandwich, going in depth on how they like to eat it. One likes extra barbecue sauce for added "tang," another piles it high with crisp french fries, a third forgoes the onions but doubles up on the pickles, and another doesn't mess with the original recipe but makes sure to stockpile extra napkins (we agree, it's saucy). The enthusiasm also extends to the true McRib fanatics, some of whom have lined up to get their McRib fix when the sandwich makes its seasonal debut. In L.A.'s case, it will be around until December 5th.

Pork better for sex than Viagra?

From: http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20100128/od_nm/us_argentina_pork

Eat pork, spice up your sex life: Argentina's Kirchner
AFP/File – Eating pork is at least as effective as popping a Viagra pill to spice up your sex life, according to …

BUENOS AIRES (Reuters) – Argentina's president recommended pork as an alternative to Viagra Wednesday, saying she spent a satisfying weekend with her husband after eating barbecued pork.

"I've just been told something I didn't know; that eating pork improves your sex life ... I'd say it's a lot nicer to eat a bit of grilled pork than take Viagra," President Cristina Fernandez said to leaders of the pig farming industry.

She said she recently ate pork and "things went very well that weekend, so it could well be true."

Argentines are the world's biggest per capita consumers of beef, but the government has sought to promote pork as an alternative in recent years due to rising steak prices and as a way to diversify the meat industry.

"Trying it doesn't cost anything, so let's give it a go," Fernandez said in the televised speech.

Potty Training Pigs Helps Cut Water Use by 50%, Prevents Water Pollution (Video)

by Jaymi Heimbuch, San Francisco, California

Taiwan's 6.5 million pigs are a source of river pollution. But one Taiwanese farmer has found that potty training is porkers goes a long way in both conserving water and keeping it clean. He's trained his hogs to use a litter box, and has had such great results that he's starting to advocate the practice to other farmers.

Earth Times reports that Chang Chung-tou, owner of Shantung Animal Husbandry Farm in Yunlin county, started training his hogs 6 years ago after neighbors complained about the stench and pollution coming from the pig waste. He set up small litter boxes - about 4 meters by 6 meters for every 40 pigs - and trains them while young to use them.

The litter boxes have wire mesh so the urine seeps through, and the fecal matter is vacuumed by a special machine so the area is kept waste-free. The farmer has realized a 50% savings in water use. But possibly even more importantly, the success of his efforts has not only helped him avoid fines for pollution by environmental authorities, but the authorities are encouraging other farmers to follow his lead and start training their own piglets.

It helps that pigs naturally like to be in a clean environment, and are easily as smart as dogs. They pick up on the potty training quickly, and the feces can be used for fertilizer, biogas or, after special treatment, fish and pigeon feed.

This isn't exactly the system the farmer in Taiwan has, but the video below gives you an idea about just how capable pigs are when it comes to potty training:

Science Fail – Freak Pig Shocks Chinese Village

By Jeff Wysaski

piglet-monkey-1

For a species that is universally equated with ugliness, a little piglet born in the small Chinese village of Fengzhang makes Miss Piggy look like Megan Fox.

I’m completely horrified by the photo above, and yet, I…can’t…look…away. As owner Feng Changlin suggests, the little pig’s face – thin lips, bulbous nose, big eyes – looks exactly like a monkey. (Side note: Feng Changlin is a fucking awesome name and should be given to Marvel’s next comic book super villain ASAP.)

Any resemblance to a primate quickly shifts below the neck, however. Though parts of the thing are 100 percent pig, the beast’s back legs are longer than the front legs. Such a disadvantage (advantage?) means the little piglet hops around like a kangaroo.

I don’t know about you, but that fact right there freaks my shit out. I just keep picturing the little thing leaping off the ground and biting my face off.

As expected, the farmer and his wife are completely horrified by the thing. Obviously, they can’t sell the thing because it’s too hideous. And though they want to get rid of it, it appears Feng Changlin’s son won’t let him. Apparently, the young Changlin has taken quite a shine to the little guy. He plays with it and feeds it milk. Is that cute? Or revolting? (Answer: revolting).
