The Goonies, 25 Years Later

We don't mean to alarm you but it's been twenty-five years since 'The Goonies' uttered their oath. It was one of the most popular films of the eighties and the cast is back to celebrate their anniversary. Moviefone headed over to the Warner Bros. lot in Burbank, CA to chat with some of the gang and watch a scavenger hunt to celebrate the release of 'The Goonies 25th Anniversary Collectors Edition' DVD and Blu-ray.

We got the scoop on one of my favorite movies of all time from Corey 'The Mouth' Feldman, Ke 'Date' Huy Quan, Jeff 'Chunk' Cohen who is certainly not chunky now, Robert 'Jake Fratelli' Davi and director Richard Donner. The collectors edition comes out today and it will have you yelling, 'Goonies never say die!' Check out the video after the jump.

Today, the good people at EW give us the first glance Ryan Reynolds in the Green Lantern suit and I'm having a little trouble keeping the two sides of my brain from reenacting the Raan-Thanagar War.

Those who don't know anything about the Green Lantern mythos like to say that Hal Jordan (and the other members of the Corps) are lame superheroes simply because all they do is wear a ring.

We who know better say pshaw! Be it Kyle Rayner's artistic constructs, the multi-layered thinking of John Stewart, Guy Gardner's brute force, or Alan Scott's wisdom and nobility, a Lantern's might comes from within!

Still, though, the ring is important and with the ring comes the suit. The friggin' suit.

Ryan Reynolds looks sufficiently badass and quite stern as Hal Jordan. He's definitely not the Silver Age Hal Jordan "awww shucks"ing it with Carol Ferris and Pie-Face. He looks like he's ready to put a beatdown on anyone who messes with Sector 2814. And I think that is entirely cool.

The thing that everyone will first notice about the suit, though, is what looks like "musculature of light." That is definitely non-canonical - and while I did flash on Joel Schumacher's Batman nipples for a second, I'm thinking there's a lot that can be done with this.

Will we see Green Lantern power shooting through him? Will he glow when he's angry? (Taking a page out of Ion's book here a little, perhaps?)

Still, as a child of the 1980s, there was something about the suit that made it feel a little familiar.

It's toy mania as Lego becomes next Hollywood target

Warner Bros. is building a Lego movie.

The studio and producer Dan Lin have acquired theatrical rights for a motion picture about the timeless toy, and set writers Dan and Kevin Hageman to pen the script.

The live action/CG hybrid is described as a movie set in the world of Lego that centers on the subject of childlike imaginations and examines themes of creativity and teamwork in the manner of “Toy Story.” While the pic will have elements for children, the studio is hoping the film is a four-quadrant play that can also appeal to adults.

In addition to Lin (whose credits include Guy Ritchie’s upcoming “Sherlock Holmes” at Warners), Roy Lee will produce and Stephen Gilchrist will co-produce, while Jill Wilfert will oversee creatively for Lego. Matt Reilly is overseeing for the studio.

The Lego development project continues what has been a veritable craze for toy-based movies, a trend that flowered again at the boxoffice this past weekend with the $56 million opening of “G.I. Joe,” the Hasbro toy that became a Paramount hit, and has extended into lesser-known toys like the View-Master, which is being developed as a feature under the guidance of producers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci at DreamWorks.

It's a bit of a switch for the CAA- and Underground Management-repped Hagemans, who are set to adapt the ensemble monster pic “Hotel Transylvania” for Sony and are adapting the genre tale “Carpe Demon: Adventures of a Demon-Hunting Soccer Mom” for Warners. But apparently when the scribes pitched the Lego execs (in Denmark), there was warm enthusiasm, not always the reception when Hollywood's come a-knocking before.

Some history: Lego began in the 1940s as a toy first popular with Europeans and then around the globe. The company, which remains a privately controlled firm based in Billund, Denmark, has over the years maintained its core lines of building blocks even as it has expanded into robots, space stations and other theme-driven extensions.

The toy has always had a presence of sorts in and around Hollywood. A handful of direct-to-DVD CGI pics have been distributed through the home video arms of companies such as Universal and Miramax, and it also has offered children’s video game tie-ins with Warners properties like “Batman." And one of the only Legolands in North America sits in Carlsbad, about an hour south of Los Angeles, which if you have anyone under 7 years old in your life, you know all too well.

But a big-screen feature has never been attempted.

There's another trend at work here. Warners is keen on developing a toy pic, but it's also hot for live action/CG hybrids. The studio is behind a big screen remake of “Yogi Bear” as well as a reboot of the Don Knotts “The Incredible Mr. Limpet,” which live-CG master Kevin Lima is attached to direct, about an adult who turns into a mermaid. Guess it's now time for some computer-generated little yellow men, too.

'Green Lantern' has three in ring

Cooper, Reynolds, Timberlake circling project

Warner Bros. is about to decide who will wear the super-powered ring in "Green Lantern," the studio's latest DC Comics tentpole movie.

Along with director Martin Campbell and producers Donald De Line and Greg Berlanti, Warners has spent the past five months searching for the actor to play Hal Jordan, the hot-shot Air Force pilot who is chosen by a dying alien to be his successor in an intergalactic police force known as the Green Lanterns.

This week, the race narrowed to Bradley Cooper, Ryan Reynolds and Justin Timberlake. The clock is ticking on the decision as the holding deal the studio had on the actors expired Monday, meaning the three are now free to accept other offers.

The studio ordered up two rounds of screen tests with Cooper, Reynolds and Timberlake. Other actors in the early mix included Michael Fassbender, Henry Cavill and Jared Leto.

Apparently, De Line, Campbell and the studio each had a different favorite among the three finalists, making it difficult to come to a consensus.

Another issue impacting the casting process is the rising budget. "Lantern" is a full-blown space epic that is expected to cost between $150 million and $200 million, if not more. Warners would like to have the production costs at a reasonable level before proceeding.

The studio has scheduled the movie for a December 2010 opening.

Cooper, repped by CAA and Thruline, is feeling a lot of love from Warners as he stars in the studio's surprise comedy hit, "The Hangover," which has grossed $210 million domestically.

UTA-repped Reynolds recently starred in a comic book movie, Fox's "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," where he played "the merc with a mouth" Deadpool. The character is now being developed for a spinoff to which Reynolds is attached. The actor is also in theaters with Disney's romantic comedy "The Proposal."

Timberlake, repped by CAA and Rick Yorn, has been steadily building an acting resume, appearing in such dramas as "Alpha Dog" and "Black Snake Moan" while also showcasing his comedy chops with appearances on "Saturday Night Live."

Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes Movie Trailer

Warner Bros has released the trailer for Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes. The film stars Robert Downey Jr as the title character, in fresh new take on the popular mystery novels. Jude Law co-stars as Dr. John Watson, Rachel McAdams plays Holmes’ love-interest, “the deceptive” Irene Adler. And Mark Strong plays the film’s villain Lord Blackwood, an industrialist who “holds sway over a cult of dark-arts practitioners and claims to possess supernatural powers, is linked to a series of murders.”

The film’s Pirates-esque action-comedy tone is front and center in the new trailer, as is Ritchie’s signature style with dutch angles and Fight Night-like slow-motion bare-knuckle bouts. Check out the trailer after the jump and leave your thoughts below!

WARNER BROS BRINGING PENNYWISE THE CLOWN TO THE BIG SCREEN WITH IT

Hot off the success of Watchmen, Warner Bros has acquired the movie rights to another 1986 novel with a large fanbase: Stephen King's It. Also made into a 1990 ABC mini-series starring John Ritter, Richard Thomas and Tim Curry, It is the story of a group of childhood friends from the 1950s who reunite in the 1980s when one of the members of their "Losers Club" dies, ultimately teaming up to fight a strange monster that lives in their hometown's sewers and takes the form of a creepy clown named Pennywise. For the movie version, the decades are being bumped up a bit, so they will be kids in the 1980s (or maybe even 1990s?) and adults in the 2010s (by the time the movie gets made). Dave Kajganich, writer of the Warner Bros flop The Invasion, is working on the script. Tim Curry did an incredible job being creepy on a John Wayne Gacy scale as Pennywise, so it should be interesting to guess who might take on the role next.

The Dark Knight Breaks a Billion

It's not going to snag 11 Oscars, but The Dark Knight—Christian Bale and all—is nipping at Titanic's heels in the court of public opinion.

The 2008 blockbuster has surpassed $1 billion at the worldwide box office, Warner Bros. announced late Friday.

According to BoxOfficeMojo.com, the critically acclaimed Caped Crusader sequel—which actually could win eight Academy Awards on Sunday—is now in fourth place on the list of all-time box office grosses, behind only Titanic ($1.84 billion), The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King ($1.12 billion) and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest ($1.07 billion).

The Dark Knight is currently sitting pretty with $1.001 billion, while the fifth-place Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is way back there with $974.7 million.

$533.1 million of that billion-plus sum was grossed in U.S. theaters, while $468 million was raked in overseas.

Warner Bros.' news comes along with the announcement that The Dark Knight is also now the top-grossing 2-D IMAX release of all time, with $64.9 million grossed worldwide.

Warner Bros Wants Seven Batman Movies

While the sequel to The Dark Knight is just in the beginning stages of development, Warner Bros is already looking much further down the line. During today’s Time Warner earnings call, CEO Jeff Bewkes compared the Batman series to the Harry Potter film franchise, saying that they hope to release a long line of sequels.

“We look at Harry Potter. It’s fantastic to have franchises that last that long. We want to do that with Batman and Superman and perhaps Sherlock Holmes. The sequels are as good, with new characters added, as were the originals. That wasn’t the case in the years ago. Warners has more tentpoles as an on-going strategy taht very much lifts its distribution and performance. We think that’s going to hold up our slate in the 2009 - 2010 period. We’ve got four more big tentpoles coming this year.”

I kinda get the impression that if Christopher Nolan does a third Batman film, it will probably be his last. He seems like a filmmaker that wants to move on to his own passion projects, and while Warner Bros has been very patient with him in regards to a Dark Knight sequel, the studio/company is clearly looking much further down the line. Warner Bros wants to make a lot more Batman movies? I know, this is a pretty obvious story, but it’s the first time that Time Warner/Warner Bros has said publicly that they are looking beyond the next film.

I know Zack Snyder has expressed interest in filming an adaptation of The Dark Knight Returns, and even got Frank Miller’s blessing at Comic Con last year. If Nolan isn’t interested in making a fourth Batman film, I would love to see Warner Bros take the leap and do the alternative future story with Snyder in the director’s seat. That way you could give the A-team (cast and crew) behind the Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and Batman 3 a break and still make another Batman flick. Sounds like a much better idea than possibility tanting the franchise with a Justice League movie featuring a recast younger Bruce Wayne.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Teaser Trailer
