M.I.A.’s New Video Too Much For YouTube

The New York Times is reporting that YouTube has pulled the video for M.I.A.’s new single, Born Free, presumably owing to nudity and graphic violence. Directed by Romain Gavras (son of filmmaker Costa-Gavras), it depicts an unidentified American military unit rounding up red-headed males from an apartment complex, then busing them to the desert where they are tortured and killed. It is hard-edged, graphic stuff and extremely NSFW.

Since it popped up yesterday, there’s been a lot of web chatter about the video’s political message which, at its heart, is fairly rote. I’m inclined to think the kerfluffle has a lot more to say about how dull, thoughtless and inconsequential most music videos are. A little seriousness goes a long way, and a lot, it would seem, gets people uptight. Enjoy this link while it lasts.

Lindsay Lohan Video and Magazine Shoot for MUSE

Lindsay Lohan’s new video that accompanies her sexy spread in the fashion art magazine Muse was released earlier this week — and it’s had more than 124,000 views already!

The shoot was inspired by the Johnny Depp and Kate Moss romance in the early 1990s, with Lindsay channeling British supermodel Kate Moss. The magazine shoot was photographed by Yu Tsai, who also directed the video.

Model Petey Wright played the role of Depp, while Madonna backup dancer Sofia Boutella played the other woman in the pseudo ménage à trois. Lindsay drags on a cigarette in most of the very scantily-clad photos.

I will say that I like the video better than the photos. Lindsay is sexy and it helps me see what they were aiming for in the photos.

Software Engineer Builds Kick-ass Electric Daytona Replica

Software engineer Raul Atkinson doesn't think all electric cars should be boring and look like robot suppositories. As a result he built this slick, all-electric Daytona replica he calls the Raptor.

Over the course of the 2000 hour project, Atkinson fitted a 3-phase AC induction motor and 290 NiMH batteries along with a motor controller and some body work to remove accommodations for exhaust tips. The result is a silent but deadly Daytona capable of 0-60 MPH times around 8 seconds, top speed of 100 MPH and a range of 80 between 3 hour recharges. Pretty cool project if you ask us.

Our only beef comes from Atkinson himself, asserting "I can do what GM couldn't." Well, kinda; He certainly can build an electric car for an estimated $85,000, but it won't pass basic FMVSS vehicle requirements much less IIHS crash testing methodologies, hasn't been certified for sale in the US, hasn't undergone durability and environmental testing, doesn't have anyone to assemble it, factories to support the production, a distribution network, warehouses of parts to maintain it... or a rabid market ready to snap up expensive two-seat all-electric sports cars with limited range. So yes, he can do it, in a one off, and GM isn't going to repay the taxpayers with incredibly expensive one-offs. [NBC Bay Area]

Richard Branson And A Naked Denni Parkinson (NSFW PHOTOS)

New pictures are online of Richard Branson cavorting around his private island Necker with a naked supermodel.

Branson was posing for photographer Stephane Gautronneau when he asked Branson if model Denni Parkinson, Gautronneau's girlfriend who was present at the time, could get in some pictures.

She clung to the billionaire's back while he kite surfed and also lolled around on the sand as Branson stood on the shore in a white linen shirt.

Branson told the Mail on Sunday 'What can you say if you are asked to pose with a naked lady? I only wish I had eyes in the back of my head.'

The paper added Branson's wife and two grown children watched the shoot from the shore.
