Mario Kart In Real Life Is Less Cute, More Brutal

KartReal (250 x 188).jpg

Mario Kart is an oft-lampooned franchise nowadays. Expertly, I might add. But never has anyone broken down the game to its core and looked at how fun it would be if it only included the bare essentials: racing and power-ups. Well, not until Freddie W and his team did in the video you are about to see here.

With some excellent editing, special effects, and design, we get to see the real, gritty side of the typically friendly racer. It is a place where red shells will literally blow you away, and a creepy Asian dude lifts you from the abyss. Oh, and there aren't any hot princesses, which is a bummer. But there aren't any annoying toadstools there, either. So it isn't all bad.

I would love if my local Family Fun Center had a power-up kart course that I could enjoy. But alas, it doesn't. So I'll continue to do what I always do at Family Fun Centers: drink beer, beat up kids, and give dorks wedgies.

I do wish we got to see: A. bananas, B. blue spiked shell, and C. the lighting power-up. But for a video that clocks in at a minute-thirty, I suppose we can't bee too choosy.

The terrific trio undoubtedly has a brand new arsenal of automotive mayhem waiting for us in the new series. In the premiere episode, Jeremy Clarkson takes the Lotus Evora for a spin around the track, and then the hosts go on the Top Gear Race to the North, a three way race from London to Edinburgh with James riding in a Jaguar XK120 and Hammond on a Vincent Black Shadow motorbike and Jeremy riding in the cab of the steam locomotive No. 60163 Tornado. Later James and Richard race a stamped letter sent by the Royal Mail across the British Isles and Abu Dhabi in a Porsche Panamera.
The trio then buys three £1,500 rear-wheel-drive sports cars and enter in a terrifying French ice race. Richard tests the new Lamborghini Murcielago LP640-4 SV in Abu Dhabi and stages the world’s first race between the 1001hp Bugatti Veyron, McLaren F1 and the Lambo Murcielago SV.

Virgin Racing Formula 1 team launches

From: http://www.virgin.com/

The Virgin Racing Formula 1 team was officially launched in London today, where it was confirmed that one of the sport’s four new entrants has teamed up with Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin brand to embark on an exciting F1 (ad)venture.

300 guests assembled at the Louise Blouin Foundation in Notting Hill, the London district where it all began for the Virgin brand. The Rick Parfitt Jr band provided the icebreaker before the venue rocked to the electrifying sound of a Formula 1 car courtesy of a collection of up and coming musicians playing electric guitars.

Richard Branson and the Virgin Racing management team of Nick Wirth, John Booth and Alex Tai outlined the vision for their lean, mean racing machine and revealed the team’s dynamic young driver line-up. Alongside Timo Glock were two new additions to the Virgin Racing stable - Brazilian hot shot Lucas di Grassi and GP2’s Portuguese revelation Alvaro Parente.

Virgin Racing also welcomed no fewer than nine new partners to the team.

Virgin Racing had better get used to the lights, cameras and action. A star is now born and the countdown to the 2010 curtain-raiser has begun.

For more information head to Virgin Racing.
