Hennessey Godzilla GT-R 700hp

SEALY, Texas — Hennessey Performance Engineering, known for 1,000-horsepower Dodge Vipers, has given the high-horsepower treatment to Nissan's GT-R with two modification packages that produce 600 and 700 horsepower, respectively.

Named the Godzilla 600 and Godzilla 700, the packages modify the turbo system from air intake to exhaust pipe to maximize power. The 700-hp package also boosts torque to 630 pound-feet. That's 220 hp and 200 lb-ft over the stock Nissan GT-R.

Owner John Hennessey has told Inside Line his company won't stop at 700 horsepower. His team is currently working on upgrades for the transmission, engine and turbos that will allow them to produce even more power.

The Godzilla 700 package is highlighted by upgraded turbos and intercoolers. Hennessey has also added stainless steel downpipes, mid-pipe and rear exhaust and aluminum intercooler pipes. To keep the boost in check, the company has upgraded the blowoff valve and waste-gate actuator and added an electronic boost controller. The Godzilla 700 hardware is priced at $18,500; installation will cost an extra $6,000.

The Godzilla 600 package does without the turbo and intercooler upgrade but uses similar plumbing modifications, resulting in 570 lb-ft of torque. That package sells for $11,500, or $14,500 installed. Hennessey is also offering anti-sway bar kits and coil-overs for the GT-R.

Inside Line says: With the Dodge Viper on life support over at Chrysler, one has to wonder if the Nissan GT-R will be Hennessey's new favorite for big power upgrades.
