Mission Impossible Squirrel

This takes place in England - the owners of the yard added each piece
of the Rube Goldberg contraption slowly so that when the squirrel
learned one section and got the nuts, they then added the next
section.
Finally it ended with what you see on the clip! It took over 2 weeks to
get to this point.

Two-Headed Cow Born in Georgia

From: http://blogs.discovery.com/

Cow Two Heads YouTube On January 2nd, a cow gave birth to a calf with two heads in the eastern European country Georgia.  Apparently, the calf's mother has refused to let it nurse, which is not an uncommon response when an animal senses its offspring has something seriously wrong with it.  Despite that, the calf has been feeding from a bottle with both of its heads.  Unfortunately, chances of its survival to adulthood are not good, but possible with lots of human care.

See examples of other multiple-headed animals on Animal Planet's Weird, True and Freaky video page.

Cat Adopts Traditional Snack, a Baby Squirrel, Teaches It to Purr

Cat Adopts Traditional Snack, a Baby Squirrel, Teaches It to Purr
Their species are mortal enemies, but a mama cat has adopted a baby squirrel in Carthage, Mississippi, nursing it along with her own kittens.

The squirrel, now named Rocky, fell from a tree, so the cat's owner just stuck the little guy in with the kittens. Rocky thrived. Rocky adapted. Now, Rocky purrs. It's a heart-warming tale about acceptance. Or a sign of the apocalypse. One of those.

Guinness Record Setting Animals of 2011

From: http://www.lunch.com/

With the 2011 Guinness Book of World Records soon to be released, let's get acquainted with some of the most astounding, and sometimes furry and adorable subjects in the book -- the animals! These are ten animals who made the cut and set a record through their size or talent. Get ready to be amazed.

1
Giant George World's Tallest Dog
Measuring in at 43 inches tall at the withers, Giant George is currently the world's tallest dog, as well as the tallest dog ever. He sleeps on a queen size bed and whenever he flies, he takes up a row of three spaces. Talk about a pricy pooch -- not only does he eat a ton to support his 245 pound frame, but he also needs three plane seats when flying! Another piece of random trivia about Giant George is that he has appeared on Oprah.

2
Darius (rabbit) World's Largest Rabbit
About as tall as the average toddler at 4 foot 3, British rabbit Darius is currently the world's largest rabbit. Each day, Darius eats a bowl of rabbit chow, two apples, a dozen carrots with their leafy tops and half a cabbage. Fortunately for his owner, model Annette Edwards, she's able to grow her own veggies to keep down the cost of feeding this fifty pound rabbit.

3
Milan (horse) Longest Distance By a Horse On Hind Legs
Doc, a literal Italian stallion, is noted for being a horse that has traveled the furthest distance on just its hind legs. Trained by equestrian Gregory Ancelotti, Doc ran a staggering 95 feet 5 inches, amazing for a horse his size. You can catch Doc setting the record in this video starting at 2:03.

4
Tubby (dog) Most Bottles Recycled By a Dog
If there was an award for world's greenest dog, Tubby from South Wales would surely earn it. Over the past six years, Tubby has helped his owner recycle more than 26,000 bottles. He apparently has a very keen sense of smell for bottles and will seek them out in the most random of places. If only more people out there would do what Tubby does so well!

5
Anastasia (dog) Fastest Time To Pop 100 Balloons By A Dog
If you're throwing a party and want to have your balloons intact, you may want to keep Anastasia off your guess list -- this pooch can pop 100 balloons in just a cool 44.49 seconds. You can catch Anastasia in action in this video. Not only is she nuts for balloons, but she goes crazy over blimps, too.

6
Puggy (dog) Longest Tongue on a Dog
For such a little fella, he sure does have a long tongue! This nine year old, pint-size Pekingese's tongue measures 4.5 inches long and is fully functional, which is why Puggy's human decided that medical intervention was not necessary. Puggy comes from very humble beginnings and you can read all about his interesting history on his official webpage.

7
Swallow (cow) World's Smallest Cow
Measuring 33.5 inches tall, Swallow is the world's smallest cow. Despite her diminutive size, Swallow is 11 years old and mother to nine normal sized Dexter cows and is currently pregnant with her tenth. And don't be fooled by her barn life; Swallow is a cultured cow who enjoys listening to contemporary music on BBC radio in her cowshed over grazing with her herd.

8
Boo Boo World's Smallest Dog
Standing at only four inches (that's right, four inches!) tall, Boo Boo takes the cake for world's smallest dog. Though she has grown considerably since her birth weight of under an ounce, she's still a tiny pooch at 6.5 inches (a slice of NYC pizza is longer than that). Guinness Records did the math and figured that it would take 3750 Boo Boos stacked up to reach the top of the Empire State Building. Oh, and have you noticed that she's standing next to a box of matches in this photo?

9
Einstein (horse) World's Smallest Horse
Einstein is currently the world's tiniest horse. Unlike his predecessor, Thumbelina, Einstein has no signs of dwarfism -- he's just tiny! He was born on April 22, 2010 at just 14 inches and six pounds, about the size of human babies.

10
Fluffy (snake) World's Longest Snake in Captivity (deceased)
It's with a heavy heart that I report that Fluffy, set to be in the 2011 Guinness Book of World Records as the world's longest snake in captivity, has passed away at the age of 18 at the Columbus Zoo & Aquarium in Ohio on October 26, 2010. Measuring at 24 feet and 300 pounds, Fluffy was very well-loved by the zoo staff and was considered its gentle giant.

Paralyzed Dog Scales Mount Washington in Wheelchair (VIDEO)

Lucy is a dog who was rescued from the streets of Puerto Rico after being paralyzed in a car accident. She received a Walkin' Wheels dog wheelchair and has learned to get around very well.

Her new owners decided to test out her determination and endurance by attempting a walk up New Hampshire's Mount Washington -- the tallest peak in the northeastern United States.

In the video, you'll see scenes from the walk made by Lucy and her canine and human friends.

Baby Squirrel Adopted By A Cat, Learns How To Purr

Walt Grayson of WLBT takes a look at Rocky, a baby squirrel in Mississippi that fell out of a tree, was placed with a litter of newborn kittens and was adopted by the mother cat. The squirrel adapted so well to his new family that he eventually learned how to purr.

Woman attacked by bison: 'I thought I was going to die'

Woman attacked by bison: 'I thought I was going to die'

By Nick Valencia, CNN

(CNN) -- A woman gored by a bison at Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming said she is happy to be alive days after the attack.

"I thought it was the end," Cathy Hayes told CNN by phone late Wednesday.

Hayes said she was vacationing in Yellowstone on Monday with her husband and a friend. The group was driving through the park when they spotted a bison.

"My friend is from California, and had never seen a bison before," she said. "So we pulled over and went to get a closer look."

Minutes later, the bison attacked. And it was all caught on tape.

"So we're here in the park and there's a buffalo, and he's just wandering across the road," she says in the footage.

Hayes, a native of Farr West, Utah, says they were about 30 feet away from the bison when her friend decided to get closer.

"There was another group in front of us, and I never noticed it before looking at the video on my small camera, but you can see a stick fly off the back of the bison," she said. "It looks like it came from the group that was in front of him. Before that, the bison was just chillin.'"

In the video shot from Hayes' perspective, her friend falls as he runs away from the charging bison. At that point, she says, the bison turned its attention to her.

Hayes crouched behind a tree to protect herself, but it wasn't enough.

"There was a pause when I could tell that he was backing up and getting ready to ram the tree again," Hayes said. "I thought, 'He won't ram the car,' so I made a run for it. You can probably see in the video when he got me and flung me up in the air."

Hayes' husband was in their car when the attack happened, and was able to scare the bison off by making loud noises.

"He was going to throw his cell phone at it, but it took off. It was gone as quick as it came," she said.

Luckily, Hayes did not suffer life-threatening injures, but said she is still in a lot of pain. Her knee was swollen to the size of a football, and she had minor cuts and scrapes throughout her leg.

Her friend broke his shoulder when he tripped and fell.

But for the Utah teacher, it could have been worse.

"I was waiting for black. I thought I was going to die," Hayes said.

Signs throughout Yellowstone warn visitors to not get close to wildlife.

IF THIS strange creature growled at you, you wouldn't know whether to run from his sharp claws or pat him on the head and give him a biscuit.

From a distance, its striped orange and black coat makes it look like a particularly odd tiger.

But it's actually a dog, a victim of the latest craze among owners in China to dye their pets to look like other animals.

One young pup even found itself turned black and white to masquerade as a baby panda.

The Chinese are always quick to embrace bizarre trends and it is not unusual for owners to take their dogs to grooming parlours where they are not only given a shampoo and trim, but a multi-coloured dye job as well.

Quite what the animals might think about it is another matter.

Cambodian 'Jungle Woman' Found in Outdoor Toilet

Lisa Flam

Lisa Flam Contributor

From: http://www.aolnews.com/

(June 8) -- Her family feared she had gone back to the jungle.

A 29-year-old Cambodian woman who apparently lived for 18 years in the jungle before emerging three years ago had vanished 11 days ago while bathing in a well behind their home, and her family thought they had lost her again.

But Rochom P'ngieng was found Monday in an outdoor toilet about 300 feet from her home, the man who says he's her father, Sal Lou, told Agence France-Presse. A neighbor had heard her crying.

Rochom P'ngieng, center, sits with her parents in a Cambodian hospital in October. She went missing from her family's home for 11 days before a neighbor found her nearby in an outdor toilet. She was hospitalized but was reportedly refusing treatment.

"She was discovered in a 10-meter deep toilet. It's an unbelievable story. She spent 11 days there," he said, adding that she was soaked with waste up to her chest.

"We are still wondering how she could get into the toilet," he said. The toilet has a small hole covered in wood, he said.

P'ngieng, dubbed "jungle woman" after being found the first time, was admitted to a hospital after being rescued from the sewage pit, Lou said.

She was found without food or water, The Telegraph reported, adding that she ripped out an intravenous drip administered by a doctor and refused other treatments.

"The villagers pulled my daughter out of the lavatory, and we cleaned her up, but now she looks pale and weak," the father told the newspaper. "She has no strength. She has been sleeping all the time."

Lou says he's the woman's father but he has refused to take a DNA test, the Telegraph said, adding that there are theories that she did not grow up in the jungle but is really a victim of captivity and abuse.

P'ngieng vanished in 1989 while herding water buffalo when she was a young girl. She came out of the jungle in 2007, naked and bent over like a monkey, looking for food. She was identified after trying to steal food from a village and reunited with her family, who live in Rattanakiri province, about 960 miles northeast of the Cambodian capital Phnom Penh.

But she had trouble fitting back into society. She hasn't learned either of the local Cambodian languages and preferred to crawl instead of walk. She also refuses to wear clothing.

Bizarre white faced monster washed up

Montauk monster

Source: The Daily Telegraph

A BIZARRE animal corpse has washed up on a Canadian beach, reviving memories of the infamous "Montauk monster" that was discovered in 2008

Locals in a small Canadian town have been stumped by the appearance of a bizarre creature, which was dragged from a lake.

The animal, which has a long hairy body with bald skin on its head, feet and face, has prompted wild internet speculation that it is a more evolved version of the famous 'Montauk monster'. Original story

The creature was discovered by two nurses in the town of Kitchenuhmaykoosib in Ontario, Canada, while out on a walk with their dog.

When the dog began sniffing in the lake, the two women started investigating, before the dog pulled the dead animal out.

After taking some photographs of the odd animal, the nurses left it alone. When locals decided to go back and retrieve the body, it has disappeared.

The photographs have now been posted on a local website, with an explanation which reads: 'This creature was first discovered by Sam the Dog, a local dog.

'It was discovered first week of May in the creek section of town, hikers noticed Sam sniffing something in the water and they approached to see in what the Sam had detected and they noticed the creature in the water face down.

'The dog jumped in the lake and pulled the creature to the rocks and dragged it out for the hikers to see and these are the photos they took.

'The creature's tail is like a rat's tail and it is a foot long.'

There has been much speculation about what kind of species the animal is.

The body of the creature appears to look something like an otter, while its face - complete with long fang-like teeth, bears a striking resemblance to a boar-like animal.

Even the local police chief Donny Morris is baffled, saying: 'What it is, I don't know. I'm just as curious as everyone else.'

The pictures of the animal have caused mass speculation online, from bloggers who are all stumped as to what the creature could be.

One internet blogger wrote: 'That certainly is a face only a mother can love. It looks like some sort of otter, weasel-type thing.'

While another added: 'Some kind of mustelid - I thought otter first.

'Being in the water and bashed around has made the fur on the face and tail come off so clean like that.'

Many people have suggested the animal could be a new 'Montauk monster' - due to the similarities between these photographs and those of a different creature which washed up in Montauk, New York, in 2008.

The animal, which quickly earned the nickname the 'Montauk monster', thanks to the beach's location to a Long Island government animal testing facility, has never been officially identified - although the general consensus is that it was some kind of racoon.

However, other bloggers have speculated that the new creature discovered is a type of chupacabra, or 'goatsucker'.

The chupacabra is rumoured to inhabit parts of the U.S. , with many several hundred eyewitness accounts over the past few years.

But despite these sightings, the majority of biologists and wildlife experts believe the chupacabra is a contemporary legend.

The hairless beast was trapped by hunters in Sichuan province after locals reported spotting what they thought was a bear.

Hunter Lu Chin explained: "It looks a bit like a bear but it doesn't have any fur and it has a tail like a kangaroo."

"It also does not sound like a bear - it has a voice more like a cat and it is calling all the time - perhaps it is looking for the rest of its kind or maybe it's the last one?

"There are local legends of a bear that used to be a man and some people think that's what we caught," he added.

Local animal experts now plan to shipped the mystery beast to scientists in Beijing who will perform DNA tests on the beast.

Mike Tyson to Host Reality Show on Animal Planet

An idea long overdue: a Mike Tyson reality show. On Animal Planet. SB Nation's Bad Left Hook blog has the details:
Debuting in 2011 and beginning filming soon, a new Animal Planet show starring Mike Tyson will "take audiences inside the intensely competitive and bizarrely fascinating world of pigeon racing," according to a network press release.

"I'm honored to be a part of this monumental show on Animal Planet," said Tyson. "I feel a great pride acting as an official representative for all the pigeon fanciers out there. I want people to see why we love these birds. It feels good returning to the rooftops of the city where it all started for me -- New York."
I first heard about Tyson and his pigeons in 2003, when ESPN's Bill Simmons wrote about the boxer and his birds.
The pigeons. People come and go, wives come and go, fights come and go ... but the pigeons endure. He's been flying them ever since he was a little boy in Brooklyn. After Lewis savagely destroyed him last summer, the most humiliating of defeats, Tyson returned to Harlem and flew his birds for months on end. His wife filed for divorce. The boxing world left him for dead. He kept flying those damned pigeons. Earlier in the morning, I was talking with one of the locals who cares for Tyson's birds when he's away -- a guy named Ron -- who explained, "He likes the way they fly. I think he just likes coming up here. It's his place. He relaxes up here."
I'm intrigued. Not sure if Animal Planet has decided on a name for the show but I'm pushing for the Pigeon Whisperer. It's too obvious not to happen.
