This Guy’s Name Is Wonderful And Terrific

391diggsdigg

The University at Buffalo football team may not have been able to recruit the high school prospect with the most talent among this year’s class, but they were able to recruit the high school prospect with the best name.

Meet Wonderful Terrific Monds II. In an effort to make sure their son would never lack self-confidence, they gave him the most glorifying name they could come up with (we are simply assuming that is the explanation for such a name). Now the Bulls are hoping Monds can live up to his name.
That could be a tough task for the defensive end out of Westwood High School, but if he wasn’t up for the challenge, his parents probably would have just named him Average Mediocre.

Reggie Bush to Be Stripped of His Heisman Trophy

A report on Yahoo Sports says the ex-USC running back will become the first Heisman Trophy winner to lose the award in the trophy's 75-year history.

The Heisman Trophy Trust has been investigating improper benefits Bush, now a member of the NFL's New Orleans Saints, allegedly received during his Heisman-Trophy season in 2005. Sources tell Yahoo the inquiry will result in the organization vacating Bush's award and leaving the 2005 Heisman Trophy vacant. (See why USC kids are paying for Bush's mistakes.)

The Heisman investigation follows a separate NCAA investigation into Bush and the USC program. The NCAA found Bush should have been ineligible for much of the 2004 and all of the 2005 seasons due to gifts, money and other benefits the collegiate star received.

USC has already returned their copy of Bush's award on instruction from university president C.L. Max Nikias. Despite the gesture, the NCAA lowered the boom on USC for the violations, vacating 13 of the football program's wins and banning the school from postseason bowl play for two years. Obama renews plea for playoffs

President-elect Barack Obama
Said President-elect Barack Obama: "If I'm Utah, or if I'm USC or if I'm Texas, I might still have some quibbles."

WASHINGTON (AP) -- President-elect Barack Obama says he still thinks there needs to be a playoff system for determining the country's college football champion.

Obama, asked what he thought about Florida's 24-14 victory Thursday night over Oklahoma in the BCS championship game, congratulated the Gators and said he'd sent a message to a friend whose son plays for the team.

At the same time, he said, "If I'm Utah, or if I'm USC or if I'm Texas, I might still have some quibbles."

Obama said, "That's why we need a playoff."

THE BCS SUCKS, IN SONG FORM

This weekend, Saturday Night Live continued its trend of being the best 90-minute show that you can watch in 20 minutes on your DVR, thanks in part to Will Forte’s song making fun of the BCS. Even though every Will Forte song on Weekend Update sounds exactly the same, and even though this devolves into easy George Bush jokes, I still found this mildly enjoyable enough to post. What a ringing endorsement! Ain’t no compliment like an underhanded compliment!

Obama says he'll push for eight-team playoff

'I’m going to throw my weight around. I think it’s the right thing to do'

The Associated Press

NEW YORK - It’s not exactly at the top of his agenda, but President-elect Barack Obama says there should be a college football playoff to determine a national champion. In fact, he knows exactly what he wants — an eight-team playoff.

In an interview with “60 Minutes,” Obama addresses a subject college football fans have debated for many years, and says he will use his influence to create such a system.

“If you’ve got a bunch of teams who play throughout the season, and many of them have one loss or two losses, there’s no clear decisive winner. We should be creating a playoff system,” he tells CBS’ Steve Kroft in an interview to be broadcast Sunday.

According to Obama’s proposed system, eight teams would play over three rounds to settle the national champion.

“It would add three extra weeks to the season,” he said at the conclusion of a wide-ranging interview. “You could trim back on the regular season. I don’t know any serious fan of college football who has disagreed with me on this. So, I’m going to throw my weight around a little bit. I think it’s the right thing to do.”
