Seriously Guys, a Point Break Remake?

from http://www.movieline.com/

Leader image for Seriously Guys, a Point Break Remake?

If ever there was a time for a well-placed “Noooooo!” it’s now, upon the news that Alcon Entertainment and Warner Bros. are planning to remake Kathryn Bigelow’s seminal 1991 surfing themed cop thriller Point Break. What have the producers got planned and what has it got to do with Salt and gun-fu?

To answer the latter question, the Point Break remake will be scripted by Kurt Wimmer, director of such slick, silly actioners as Equilibrium and Ultraviolet and the scribe behind recent films like Salt, Law Abiding Citizen, and the Total Recall remake.

Consider the updated plot, which will be set “in the world of international extreme sports and also involve an FBI agent infiltrating a criminal ring.” Here, Wimmer had better tread carefully: “extreme sports” have evolved in vast and often douchier ways since the days of infiltrating bromantic surfer dudes in Southern California. Can you picture Johnny Utah taking up, say, street luge in the name of catching notorious athlete-robbers?

Of course, any number of extreme sports could pop up in the sequel: Whitewater kayaking! Aggressive inline skating! Whatever it is that James Franco is doing in the desert in 127 Hours! But maybe it won’t matter which extreme sport the Point Break remake hinges on, since what made Point Break great had nothing to do with surfing, per se. It was all in that elemental, tortured man-love between Johnny and his Bodhi, highlighted vividly and poignantly against the muscular backdrop of ’90s action sensibilities. Relive a highlight from the O.G. Point Break below (and here) and cross your fingers that the remake does it some justice.

Keanu Reeves Announces Bill & Ted 3, Reveals Excellent Plot Details

By:
From: http://www.movieline.com/

Bill&Ted300.jpgApparently, 20 years isn’t too long to wait before making a sequel. Two decades after the last Bill & Ted movie hit theaters, Keanu Reeves has announced that franchise writers Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon are feverishly working on a script, the details of which the actor shared on Monday afternoon.

The actor sat down with MTV to promote his indie film Henry’s Crime and assured the outlet that the third Bill & Ted installment is very much underway — in spite of the fact that the titular characters, played by Alex Winter and Reeves, would be 50 today.

“I know a little bit,” Reeves revealed about the plot. “When we last got together, part of it was that Bill and Ted were supposed to have written the song that saved the world, and it hasn’t happened. […] So they’ve now become kind of possessed by trying to do that. Then there’s an element of time and they have to go back.”

So yes, the Wyld Stallyns may reunite onscreen one more time to achieve the greatness that George Carlin’s Rufus predicted in the 1989 original film. Party on, dudes.

Keanu Reeves Reveals Plans For Matrix Four And Five

From:  http://www.contactmusic.com/

The fourth and fifth sequels to 'The Matrix' may be shot in 3D, with creators Andy and Larry Wachowski reportedly keen to ''truly revolutionise'' the action movie genre.

Keanu Reeves has revealed plans are underway for two more sequels to 'The Matrix'.
The actor - who appears as Neo in the first three movies of the sci-fi action drama - hinted he and the writers of the franchise, Andy and Larry Wachowski, have discussed the possibility of shooting the two new movies in 3D and are reportedly seeking further advice from 'Avatar' creator James Cameron.

However, the Wachowskis are said to be keen to deliver something which has "never been seen" in the movie world and would "truly transform" the action movie genre.

Hearing Keanu commenting during a key note speech at the London School of Performing Arts, a reporter for Ain't It Cool News said: "They have completed work on a two picture script treatment that would see him return to the world of 'The Matrix' as Neo.

"Keanu says the brothers have met with Jim Cameron to discuss the pros and cons of 3D and are looking to deliver something which has never been seen again. He stated that he still has an obligation to the fans to deliver a movie worthy of the title 'The Matrix' and he swears this time that the treatment will truly transform the action genre like the first movie."

However, according to the reporter, the Wachowskis are looking to complete their current work on new movie 'Cloud Atlas' before discussing the possibility of adding to 'The Matrix' series.

Keanu Might Be Addicted To Speed

By Katey Rich

Something tells me that, no matter how good or well-liked The Day the Earth Stood Still winds up being, it's not going to inspire some national desire to see more of Keanu Reeves. But Fox, ever hopeful, is hoping to trot their star back out for the role that made him famous-- well, famous as someone other than an airhead traveling in a phone booth.

Yes, dear God, they're considering a Speed 3-- sorta. Ain't It Cool has it from a trusted source that Fox wants another go-round on the speedy bus, except it wouldn't be a sequel or remake so much as a kind of prequel. 'There's a scriptment floating around that reintroduces Jack Traven. So the studios are hoping to get Keanu back on board." So maybe earlier in his career he had to slow down a parade? A horde of excitable Christmas shoppers?

Regardless of your feelings on Keanu Reeves or the original Speed (let's leave Speed 2 out of this for now), can we all agree that Keanu was not what made that movie great? Do they really think that just bringing back the character, a big bland blank slate if there ever was one, will recapture the magic? I know I'm just getting myself worked up over nothing, and i can't keep this from happening if' it's for real, but some part of my 10-year-old self who loved Speed feels betrayed by the world right now.

UPDATE! - Oddly enough we got a similar scoop email last night, long before AICN posted theirs with above information. Since AICN can't give their source's name (and we can't either), we have no way to know if it’s the same person or if this is a second, independent confirmation. But from the way they describe the email, it sounds similar. The big difference is that when he emailed us, the kindhearted scooper in question dropped this tidbit: Jan de Bont, director of the original Speed, is out. He says, “Jan won't touch it with a five foot pole though - they offered it to him a while ago.” That’s particularly important because according to our scooper that is “going to make it harder for the studio to get Keanu Reeves back.”

It’s all just rumor of course, literally anyone could have sent those emails to us or AICN. We’ll let you know when there’s some sort of official confirmation. - JT
