Special Superfluous Editions of ML63 on the Way
The BMW X6 wasn’t the first SUV to make us scratch our heads and ponder its existence. No, that job was left to the ML 55 AMG; one of the first hot-rod luxury SUVs to hit the market. The 5.5-liter V-8 underhood fired off 342-horsepower and 376 ft-lbs. of torque and the vehicle road on a stiff, lowered suspension. The special alloy wheels revealed brakes with red calipers through the spoke gaps. No one could figure out the point. Still, Mercedes sold a ton of them. And to celebrate, the company announced today a special “10th anniversary” trim of the ML 63 AMG. This ML (pictured above) receives a new, bulged hood; a special radiator grill; grey 21-inch wheels; and, of course, a 6.3-liter V-8 with 510-horsepower. Both of these ML’s, along with the BMW X6, Range Rover Sport, and FX 50 S – all to a lesser extent – look to continue an odd, but interesting trend in the automotive industry. For sure, the pair devised by the AMG Performance Group guarantees exclusivity, excitement, and just a dash of ridiculousness. |
