James Bond’s famed Aston Martin for sale

Model includes numerous 007 gadgets, could fetch over $5 million

AP James Bond's actual Aston Martin DB5 as driven by Sean Connery in the "Goldfinger" and "Thunderball" movies is for sale for the first time.

LONDON — James Bond's 1964 Aston Martin DB5, dubbed by auto auctioneers RM Auctions on Tuesday as the "world's most famous car," will go under the hammer in London in October and is expected to fetch over $5 million.

It is the first time the distinctive silver-colored car has been available to the public to buy.

It is one of two, and the sole remaining, of the original "007" DB5s that appeared on screen with Sean Connery behind the wheel in "Goldfinger" and "Thunderball," RM Auctions said in a statement.

The model comes complete with its "Q-Branch" gadgets including machine guns, bullet-proof shield, revolving number plates, tracking device, removable roof panel, oil slick sprayer, nail spreader and smoke screen.

Several of the gadgets are fully operational, although the machine guns are not real.

The car is being sold by U.S. radio broadcaster Jerry Lee, who convinced the Aston Martin Lagonda factory to sell it for $12,000 in 1969, becoming its first and only ex-factory owner.

It has remained in his possession and has rarely been seen publicly over the past 40 or so years. Lee plans to use the proceeds from the sale for the Jerry Lee Foundation.

It will be auctioned on Oct. 27.

Sean Connery in Indy 5?

I think the only way they’ll get Sean Connery back in front of a camera is if they douse him in water and flip his banana-lounge – but you gotta give ‘em points for trying to break the former 007’s pact with retirement.

Despite the fact he turned down a chance to make a gratuitously petite appearance in “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull”, George Lucas and Steven Spielberg are still holding out hope that the acting great might soon get the itch to do time with a Nikon again. As an effect of their optimism, the duo has apparently written Connery into the next “Indiana Jones” sequel.

An unnamed source (usually the janitor, someone’s smutty alter-ego, or a die-hard fan of the actor that thinks if they write it down, it will come true) tells Ireland Online that Henry Jones will indeed be part of “Indiana Jones 5” – the script, anyway.

"Steven Spielberg has been working on a script with George Lucas and there is an element of the story that could see Sean returning. Anything is possible in these movies and if Sean wants to return he will become central to the new story."

Just one problem – didn’t they explain Henry’s no-show in “Crystal Skull” by hinting that Indy’s father had passed away a few years before? Suppose that could easily be fixed with a line or two of dialogue (Sallah : No, Your father ISN’T Dead Indy – he’s been helping me search for the Lost City of Atlantis in the Sewers of Cairo”), but it’d still be a little on the nose. Unless, of course, they have Henry appear in some flashback scenes? That might work.

Harrison Ford said earlier this week that he, Lucas and Spielberg have all agreed on what the story of “Indy 5” will be. Meantime, Shia LaBeouf returns to jungle camp to brush-up on his vine swings.
