The more people you pack into an airplane, the less fuel per passenger consumed. Since we have noted already that standing on planes won't fly, Italian seat design company Aviointeriors proposes the SkyRider, a sort of saddle-like perch seat.

The designer tells USA Today that it will be like riding horseback.

For flights anywhere from one to possibly even up to three hours ... this would be comfortable seating," he says. "The seat ... is like a saddle. Cowboys ride eight hours on their horses during the day and still feel comfortable in the saddle.

The Consumerist isn't so sure.

Yes, maybe professional cowboys and horse riders don't mind being on a saddle all day. That doesn't mean your average business traveler wants that huge bump pressing into their precious parts for several hours. One turbulent flight and we're all asking for ice packs...

Surely by this time the reality should be setting in- perhaps a better option than saddling up for a one to three hour flight is to take a train.
