Super-mega-uber-exclusive! The State DVD set for release this summer! Maybe...

by Danny Gallagher

MTV's The State
Nothing has frustrated TV fans more than the never-ending release of The State DVD from MTV. It has become the Duke Nukem Forever of the television universe.

One minute, it's on and the next minute, it's off. Then it's back on again, then the whole thing gets called off. Then it rises from the ashes like a flaming phoenix into the never-ending sky only to get doused with a fire extinguisher by an MTV Home Entertainment executive.

Now it appears that ill-fated collection of magic discs is coming soon to a DVD store near you until MTV decides it's time to destroy your dreams and tell your children there is no Santa Claus again.

Actor, writer, State cast member and recent Reno 911! addition Joe Lo Truglio announced on his personal website that the complete series DVD of The State has a summer release date or failing that, a release this summer. He also released two never-before-seen images of the DVD box set's inner sleeves.

Now before you decide that this is the news that should cause you to wet your pants, hold up and try not to think about firehoses.

The marketing might be perfect. The timing may be dead-on. But things could fall apart for no reason the same way it has the last 2,143 times someone made an almost identical announcement. MTV seems to have gone out of their way to keep their few good shows from ever seeing the light of day while they literally push their worst shows directly in our faces. I'm still scrubing chunks of Room Raiders out from the pores of my cheeks to this very day.

Thanks to a healthy dose of reality, 200 CC's of suspicion and the pessimisectomy I received the last time this box set was announced, I've learned not to get my hopes too high. In the end, the only way I can be sure this unforgotten gem will hit the shelves is when it actually gets there.
