History of Fat Tuesday (Mardi Gra):
A season for abundance, a time for bliss in New Orleans, the capital of Louisiana, is the occasion of “fat Tuesday” (Mardi Gras). It takes its caption from a French-catholic heritage, which quotes “gras” for fat and “mardis” for Tuesday. It symbolizes the duration of joy and indulgence of fun, which paves the harbinger of surplus of prosperity.
Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday) onset falls on the twelve night or epiphany of Christmas Eve, where the spree of splendid mirth arrives. It can be related uniquely even to the day, the three magi visited baby Jesus, to place their treasures at the feet of the newborn redeemer of the world, whose birth delivered peace, harmony and also scattered all the evil spells, which haunted mankind . Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday) usually falls 46 days before the festival of Easter, which is the most awaited and worshipped day by all Christians, with at most sincerity. “Fat Tuesday” (Mardi Gras) scheduled prior to the onset of the lent season holds a rich cultural significance. Most Christians, with reverence confine to the lent by abstaining from consuming fat –rich, red meat and other heavy meat preparations. In places like Brazil, dance troops with their Latin-American styles of Samba, cha-cha-cha and so on vibrates so powerfully to drown the crowd.
