Faster Pussycat- Jaguar's XFR reaches 225mph at Bonneville

WENDOVER, Nevada — With the mission of testing the limits of its just unveiled 510-horsepower 2010 XFR sedan, Jaguar took a trip to the Bonneville Salt Flats and shattered its previous speed record with a run of 225.675 mph.

The vehicle was modded by Rocketsports, a race preparation company based in East Lansing, Michigan, and the company's owner Paul Gentilozzi was in the driver seat for the record-breaking run.

Gentilozzi commented that he couldn't be at full throttle until he was going faster than 150 mph, and a data analysis after the fact showed that he was getting 6 percent wheel slip during the record-breaking ninth pass.

Rocketsports retuned the ECU after increasing boost on the supercharger and also added a large spoiler out back. Output was consequently bumped to 600 horses, with the Jag maintaining the stock gearbox and rear diff.

Inside Line says: A truly impressive feat considering the previous record of 217.1 mph held for 16 years. — Mike Lysaght, Correspondent
