Ferrari Scuderia Spider 16M

At this past weekend's 2008 Ferrari World finals in Mugello, Italy -- an event that serves as a season capper to Ferrari's numerous racing efforts -- the Prancing Horse unveiled a race-bred version of its F430 Spider called the Scuderia Spider 16M. An in-the-sheetmetal celebration of 2008 Ferrari's Formula 1 Constructor's championship, the Spider 16M is being billed by Ferrari as the fastest convertible ever around its famed Fiorano circuit (we're assuming that means it's faster than the California). Judging by the specs, the car is similar in nature to its F430 Scuderia hardtop sibling, with the 4.3-liter V-8 pumping out some 503 horsepower (in U.S. spec). Ferrari says the 16M can blast from 0 to 62 mph in a blistering 3.7 sec. on to a top speed of 195 mph -- that'll dry your hair in a hurry. The Scuderia Spider 16M will come in two color schemes: a standard black with gray livery or a tricolor theme. If you were wondering what the 16 stands for, it's for Ferrari's 16th Formula 1 constructor's title, and special plaques on the grille and the dash will remind all 499 customers of their supercar's exclusivity. Being a high-end convertible, the roll-bar has been fitted with a carbon-fiber outer shell and Ferrari decided to kick up the tunes with a special audio system featuring a removable Ferrari iPod Touch with a central dock. The kids will love it. Expect the 16M to check in somewhere in the $300,000 range when it goes on sale, and expect Ferrari to sell every last one of them.
