LG says steam machine saves water, too

LG has launched the world’s first steam washing machine which it claims will do the ironing.
The Korean electronics giant says the technology in its £900 Steam Direct Drive Washing Machine improves the washing performance and ensures the machine is more water- and energy-efficient.
But perhaps the feature that will excite the most interest is the ‘refresh’ programme. This uses steam to remove creases in garments in just 20 minutes, eliminating the need for ironing, says LG.
The efficiency claims are based on the machine's dual spray system. This sprays hot steam on to clothes continuously for 40 minutes, which is claimed to cut water usage by 35 per cent, and energy usage by 21 per cent compared with traditional washers.
However, the steam function is only for intensive stains and not for normal washing, so it's only going to provide a saving on certain washes.
'Revolutionary steam feature'
Owners can also pay extra for a remote display which allows them to check the progress of the wash cycle from any room in the house.

The LG Steam Direct Drive Washing Machine is available from UK stores in a variety of colours including black, cherry, rose, pearl white and aqua blue.
