A new trend in dog styling is to make them look like wild animals. I'm under the personal opinion that it's cruelty to animals.

The big argument is that it's an art form. These so-called designers are carving unnatural shapes into the dogs fur and using dyes to completely transform their original state.

It's called a trend, but the basic dog grooming competition started back in 1980 by a professional groomer named Jerry Schinberg, right here in Des Plaines. It's really morphed into an art form, but at what cost. You be the judge.

  1. not cruelty to the dogs at all. If the dog doesn't like to be groomed and have the attention there is no way they would allow you to do this to them. I have 3 dogs, 2 love it, one hates it, therefor I would never subject him to this. As for the other 2, they lay there nice and relaxed and love the attention, and the time together with me! My female prances around after like the queen she is,and my male does the King prance just as well. You need to go spend some time with a creative groomer to appreciate the love, time and creativity that goes into these grooms. Maybe then if you wanted to publish your opinion, it would be more informed. The products used are usually water based and pose no threat to the animals health or well being. Cruelty is letting your dog get matted and filthy or not giving it the attention it deserves.
