In the film, Rourke's character, washed up grappling idol Randy 'The Ram' Robinson, finds himself serving up cold meat on a supermarket deli counter.
And the actor, who has already won a Golden Globe award for the role, reveals he served real customers, who had know idea they were buying food from a movie star.
Rourke explains, "We couldn't afford to close down the store, so when a customer wanted a pound of salami, I was giving them a pound of salami.
"The manager came over and asked Darren, 'Could you have Mickey write a bit clearer, because they can't understand his writing at the cash register."
