Beastie Boys' 'Hot Sauce Committee Pt. 2'

by Andrew Martin
from http://www.prefixmag.com/

I know what some of you are thinking: "Wait, didn't you guys make a post just like this on Saturday?" Well, yes, kind of. The Beastie Boys have decided to give bootleggers the middle-finger and just uploaded the entirety of Hot Sauce Committee Pt. 2 to their Soundcloud account (and website). Clean versions of the album hit blogs and torrent sites over the weekend -- you know, after they live-streamed the thing from Madison Square Garden via boombox. But this is the official, non-live stream of the album. It's also dirty, CD-quality, and ready for you to play the shit out of until the album is released next Tuesday.

Listen to Hot Sauce Committee Pt. 2, which drops May 3, below.

The Techie Dorm Room: Then and Now

Revenge of the Nerds

Let’s face it. Geeks are cool. It isn’t that the people became cooler, but rather that technology has allowed it to where someone doesn’t have to have pocket protectors and an IQ in the 150s to be classified as a geek. The techies of the modern age are geeks based upon interest rather than uncoolness.

The “modern era” of techies really started in the 1990s when availability of personal computers, third generation gaming systems, and gadgets galore started creeping into everyone’s dorm room, not just those who looked like the cast of “Revenge of the Nerds.”

This graphic depicts the evolution of the techie dorm room over the last 2 decades. My, how times have changed.

stadiums night time Stadiums at night: 25 beautiful cathedrals of sport

Since we crank out so many stories each week some really good ones get lost in the cracks. And since so many new people visit Guyism every day (thank you), we thought we’d start taking some time on the weekends to share some classics that many of our newer readers may have missed.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

There’s something about a sports stadium. We’re nostalgic for the old ones (Wrigley Field, Fenway Park). We get excited at the prospect of a new one (Meadowlands Stadium, Yankee Stadium). We even try to replicate old stadiums with new ones (Camden Yards, Busch Stadium). Stadiums when done right can be both practical as well as aesthetic beauties and stadiums really look their best when whoever is in charge of them puts care into how they are illuminated at night. The people in charge of these 25 stadiums know exactly what they are doing.

What a stinker! World's smelliest flower opens for the first time in 75 YEARS

By Daily Mail Reporter

from http://www.dailymail.co.uk/

For botanists, it doesn't get more exciting than this - after 75 years, the Titan Arum plant has unfurled its leaves and is in full bloom.

For curious crowds who gathered, they perhaps realised that a once-in-a-lifetime look is more than enough - thanks to its pungent odour of rotting flesh.

The flower, nicknamed 'Corpse flower', bloomed late on Good Friday at the University of Basel, Switzerland and is expected to remain open until Easter Sunday.

The eight foot plant, which is indigenous to Sumatra's rainforests in Indonesia, has the largest unbranched shoot in the world. On average, they bloom once in a decade.

Titan Arum is coveted by collectors and plant enthusiasts around the world because of its strange blooming patterns.

It produces umbrella-sized petals which open to a diameter of three to four feet.

Its distinctive smell can be detected from half a mile away. The odour, which is usually strongest at night, is meant to attract pollinators such as carrion beetles and flesh flies.

Twelve of them are housed at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, in the Princess of Wales Conservatory among hundreds of other tropical plants.

When the plants are ready to pollinate, the stem heats up to release a pungent smell, which lasts for about three days.

The largest Arum at Kew gardens weighs 200lb and grows at a staggering rate of a quarter of an inch an hour.

It guzzles liquid fertiliser and potassium each week to keep up its strength while bedded in roomy surroundings.

Sir David Attenborough, who invented the name Titan Arum, was the first to capture it flowering on film for his BBC TV series The Private Life of Plants.

He dropped the plant’s original name – Amorphophallus – perhaps because of the reference to male genitalia.

U.S. Military In Afghanistan Lip Syncing Britney Spears’s ‘Hold it Against Me”

It's good to see that our men and women overseas can let loose from time to time. Even if it is lip-syncing to Britney Spears. Not exactly the song you'd expect America's finest to perform, but we won't fault them. Maybe they are in the middle of "Operation Britney?" The plan is to play her music incredibly loud, in order to smoke Bin Laden out of that cave for just long enough to put one lousy bullet in that motherless bastard's head. The video is below:
