Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes Trailer Conquers Earth

Author: Eric Eisenberg

At the end of the live broadcast from WETA Studios in New Zealand this afternoon, a promise was made that the first trailer for Rise of the Planet of the Apes, due out this August, would arrive online tomorrow. Well, with the turn of the clock from 11:59 pm to 12:00 am, here in Los Angeles, CA, it's now April 14th and we have the first trailer for the Rupert Wyatt-directed film.

Starring James Franco, Tom Felton, Freida Pinto, Andy Serkis, Brian Cox and John Lithgow, the story is a prequel to the 1968 classic Planet of the Apes, that tells the story of a chimpanzee named Caesar (Serkis) that, as the result of genetic engineering, possesses intelligence far superior to any of his kind. Soon, the scientists lose control of Caesar and the ultimate battle for supremacy begins in the war of apes vs. humans.

Apple has the trailer in glorious HD, but the trailer is also available for your viewing pleasure below. Check it out.

I must admit that this trailer moves a lot slower than I thought it would. The trailer is mostly just a mix of James Franco talking about a new drug and then watching apes run around for a few seconds. The one moment that's kind of cool is when the gorilla is jumping towards the helicopter, but the lack of sound effects and ineffective music seems to suck all of the energy out. It really says something when the climax of your trailer is a chimpanzee sitting in a cage looking around. I will say that the effects made by WETA are phenomenal. I just hope that there's a bit more action in the final movie than this trailer suggests.
