Well, The Census Is Hiring

Unemployed? If you're looking for something to get you out of the house, the Census is hiring and apparently they're really enjoying the sudden influx of lawyers and other professionals to choose from, says the Washington Post.

The WaPo says:

The Census Bureau expects to hire at least 700,000 people throughout the spring and summer for part-time jobs, paying $10 to $25 an hour, mostly to knock on the doors of people who don't send in forms that will arrive in mailboxes this month. Many of the expected 3 million to 4 million applicants will be like Williams: highly educated and in the prime of their working life but sidelined by a recession that has driven the unemployment rate to almost 10 percent.
So, what are they looking for? WaPo says you must be 18 and submit to an FBI background check that includes fingerprinting. it's also helpful if you are actually from a neighborhood where the Census needs people for canvassing. They figure that people are more likely to open the door to a familiar face.

Language skills will also be important.

Does this sound like something you'd like to do?

Comcast's Latest iPhone App Manages Your DVR From Anywhere

From: http://gizmodo.com/

Comcast is fairly evil, to be sure. But if they're doing one thing right, it's the latest version of their free iPhone app, Comcast Mobile App 2.0.

In this walkthrough, you'll see that not only can you set recordings from your iPhone, but you can do so over the multiple DVRs that you may have in your house. (Note: so far, this function is only available in select areas.) Meanwhile, everyone receives new push notifications reminding you to watch or record your favorite shows...which admittedly sounds a bit useless in the DVR era.

If you're watching the clip, skip about 20 seconds in to get to the meat of it. (Not that Scott the Comcast guy doesn't seem very nice.) [iTunes via Comcast Blog Thanks Simon!]

Nap Anywhere On The Map With The New Sleep Box

By Vignyan
http://www.walyou.com

Any frequent traveler would probably best understand what I’m trying to put forth here, this cool new architectural concept created by the Russian Arch Group could turn into a life saver for most of the frequent travelers and business men. This is your portal to a session of sound sleep in a city where an accommodation or the possibility of finding an accommodation for a night’s sleep is pretty low.

Sleepbox1 Nap Anywhere On The Map With The New Sleep Box

Designed to be installed at crucial points like the Airports, central public places or any place on the map where finding an accommodation is really difficult, this may become the quite usual scene in probably a few years.

Sleepbox2 Nap Anywhere On The Map With The New Sleep Box

Measuring 2mx1, 40mx2, 30m in dimensions, this may sound a bit compact but believe me there is enough space inside to fit an Elephant! The cool “Sleep Cell” ( as I would like to call it) comes custom fitted with a Bed, Linen, Proper Ventilation System, Alarm, LCD T.V, Wi-Fi, space for your laptop and rechargeable phones and finally a cupboard under the bed to store your luggage in!

Sleepbox3 Nap Anywhere On The Map With The New Sleep Box

The payments to rent these Sleep Cells are made at the Airport Terminal or the respective offices who then provide the client with an electronic key that can be purchased for as small as a 15 minute power nap to all the hours you need.

For other cool designs for airports and travelers besides the controversial Airport Body Scan, check out the conceptual Robot Luggage Porter or the Robotic Luggage.

Ferrari will offer hybrid versions of every model by 2013, says the supercar maker

by Jerry James Stone
from http://greenopolis.com/

The announcement came from Ferrari's chairman Luca di Montezemolo during this week's Geneva Motor Show. He announced the plans while unveiling the green

599 GTB Fiorano Hybrid prototype - both figuretively and literally.

1

The 599 GTB has a hybrid powertrain called - somewhat amusingly - Hykers. The 'Hy' stands for hybrid and 'kers' refers to the Kinetic Energy Recuperation System Ferrari used during the 2009 Formula One racing season.

"This is a first step of a long project and we want within three years, maximum four, to have a hybrid Ferrari car ready for every single product of our range. This is our goal," said Montezemolo. "In three years we aim to cut emissions by a minimum of 35 percent."

2

The 599 GTB uses a 100HP+ electric motor at the back of a dual-clutch 7-speed F1 transmission. A set of flat lithium-ion batteries are fitted in the floorpan to backup the 6.0-liter V12 engine with 611 horsepower under the hood. While the electric motor and batteries add bulk to the supercar, the extra 100HP+ electric motor more than compensates for it. And it has 35-percent less CO2 emissions than the stock model.

3

I would hardly classify a hybrid Ferrari as green (regardless of what color you paint it) but I respect the effort. While Porsche tries to figure out if they're pro-hybrid or not, Ferrari seems to be firmly behind the wheel.

Tecmo Super Bowl to be revived as Tecmo Bowl Throwback on Xbox 360 and PS3

From: http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/

Tbt-1

Fans of the classic football game franchise, Tecmo Super Bowl, are cheering.

Game publisher Tecmo officially announced on Tuesday a downloadable console game based on the Nintendo classic. The Entertainment Software Rating Board ruined the surprise a couple weeks ago when it leaked info about the game before the publisher was ready to hike.

Tbt-3 Tecmo Bowl Throwback is a remake of the Super Nintendo game that redefined the genre. We called the original, along with Super Mario Bros. and Legend of Zelda (excluding Oregon Trail), a timeless classic.

Throwback will be available via download in the spring on Microsoft's Xbox Live Arcade and Sony's PlayStation Network. Players will be able to play online against friends, who can debate whether to set the play mode to the new 3-D or old-school 2-D graphic style. Online leaderboards will track stats.

Unlike the original, the game will not feature actual NFL team and player names. That's because Electronic Arts has an exclusive agreement with the league, led by its dominating Madden franchise. Throwback will instead allow players to customize names and uniforms.

Other games have tried to wiggle into the huge football gaming market without the blessing of the NFL and have mostly failed.

All-Pro Football 2K8, the spiritual successor to the NFL 2K series and ESPN games, saw one iteration before disappearing. Blitz: The League, which tried to make up for a lack of NFL endorsement with edgy content like steroid use, likewise did not gain a major following.

A new entrant called Backbreaker will try its hand in May, relying on visual magic to woo gamers. But Tecmo is hoping to capitalize on the warm and fuzzy feelings many have about their first digital football love.

In the Throwback news release, the company adds that the game has been rated "E for everyone" by the ESRB. The publisher somehow managed not to refer to the ratings board as "blabbermouths."

Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund), the tech-savvy son of Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges), looks into his father's disappearance and is pulled into the digital world of Tron where his father has been living for 25 years.

Tron Legacy is directed by first-time filmmaker Joseph Kosinski. The screenplay was co-written by Adam Horowitz ("Lost"), Richard Jefferies (Blood Tide, Living Hell), Edward Kitsis ("Lost"), and the director of the original movie, Steven Lisberger. It's Twins! Mama Elephant Gives Birth To First Known Male Twins in Thailand

Happy - and very unusual - news! Delivered to a cheering crowd, two male calves were born in the north-eastern province of Surin to a 35-year-old mother named Phang Thong Khun. They're the very first known male twins, and follow the birth of a set of female twins born in Thailand 15 years ago. But while the world celebrates their birth and they add to the very low count of elephants in Thailand, the boys aren't out of the woods yet.

Earth Times reports that the still-unnamed baby elephants are rare, and the survival rate is low.

While we have heard of twin elephants being born in the past, one or both often die.

The boys are adorable but tiny, though a veterinarian at Surin Elephant Hospital said they're both strong strong, each weighing in at about 70-80 kilograms.
