9 Hilarious Athlete Cameos (In Honor of Leslie Nielsen and ‘The Naked Gun’)

naked-gun

As you probably already know, actor Leslie Nielsen died yesterday at the age of 84. To quote Doug Benson, "I'm gonna run around Disneyland yelling, "Leslie Nielsen is dead!" And then we'll see if it's the happiest place on Earth."
Although his career spanned 60 years, the actor will forever be known for his work on The Naked Gun series, which co-starred NFL great and suspected murderer OJ Simpson. This is a sports site, so we can’t exactly just launch into a tribute featuring Nielsen’s movies. But we can put together this list of famous sports cameos in comedy films. It’s a stretch, but under the circumstances, it’s the best we can do. RIP Leslie. Shirley, you will be missed.
9. Roger Clemens - Kingpin

Like the Zucker Brothers (Airplane, The Naked Gun), the Farrelly Brothers love to pepper their films with athletes. This explains Roger Clemens' brief role in Kingpin. Although in all fairness, his later role as a steroid using adulterer was funnier.

8. Cam Neely - Dumb and Dumber

If you don’t know Cam Neely as an NHL hockey great, chances are, you know him as a truck-driving anal-rapist from the film Dumb & Dumber. The character he played, Sea Bass, is very similar to the character Roger Clemens played in Kingpin, probably because it was also written by the Farrelly Brothers.

7. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar - Airplane

Everyone knows that Leslie Nielsen starred with OJ in The Naked Gun films, but people shouldn’t forget that Kareem Abdul-Jabbar also starred with Nielsen in the classic comedy, Airplane. Jabbar played an ordinary pilot named Roger Murdock. However, “Murdock” becomes extremely upset if you badmouth Jabbar’s work ethic, for no apparent reason. He’s was also seen to be wearing Lakers’ shorts under his pilot uniform.

6. Reggie Jackson - The Naked Gun

naked-gun

O.J. Steals the show in The Naked Gun, but he’s not the only athlete to make an appearance. Mr. October himself, Reggie Jackson, also has a cameo. Although it is a pivotal role, I doubt he had trouble learning his lines...or should I say line. “I must kill...the queen.”
5. Dan Marino - Ace Ventura: Pet Detective

Ace Ventura is by by far my favorite Dolphin kidnapping film with a transgender villain. The fact that Hall-of-Fame QB Dan Marino has a cameo is the icing on the cake. Laces out, Dan!

4. Brett Farve - There’s Something About Mary

Throughout the Farrelly Brothers comedy, There’s Something About Mary, Mary makes frequent references to her ex-boyfriend, Brett. As it turns out, it’s Brett Farve. I’d like to make a dong-texting joke, but the technology just wasn’t there in 1998.

3. Lee Trevino - Happy Gilmore

What’s funnier than watching Adam Sandler cursing at a golf ball? Watching Lee Trevino watching Adam Sandler cursing out a golf ball. He might not get the glory associated with Bob Barker’s “bitch,” quote, but “Grizzly Adams did have a beard” is pretty awesome, too.

2. Orenthal James Simpson - The Naked Gun Trilogy

When it comes to athlete cameos, OJ Simpson is probably the most famous, or infamous, example. Although he was never convicted, almost everyone agrees he was responsible for killing his ex-wife and he “friend” back in 1994. He also kills at slapstick comedy.

1. Mike Tyson - The Hangover

Tyson’s role as himself in The Hangover is one of the most recent entries on the list, and arguably the funniest. After all, there’s something special about seeing a convicted rapist jam out to Phil Collins. Also, the face tattoo is always hilarious.

Derek Jeter With The Red Sox? Imagine That!

Exactly one month ago our "Picture of the Day" featured Derek Jeter in a Red Sox uniform with the title "What if..."

It appears as though the New York Post has been thinking the same thing lately as the Yankees have told their 36-year-old free agent shortstop to feel free to shop around if the $45 million they offered him is not enough.  And anyone who follows baseball knows that if there is one team that may actually outbid the Yankees for an All-Star player, it is the Boston Red Sox.

So that once again leaves us all asking the question, "What if?"

Rio's drug war (PICS)

boston.com — After recent efforts by officials to pacify Rio's drug and gang-related violence ahead of the upcoming the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympics Games, drug gangs struck out last week - attacking police stations and staging mass robberies. After days of preparation, Brazilian security forces launched a raid in the Complexo de Alemão, where between 500 and 600 drug traffickers were holed up. At least 42 people were killed in the violence last week, with security forces taking control of many neighborhoods.

Breakdancer, 8, Busts a Move to Become YouTube Star

Angelo Baligad flips and spins -- practically defying gravity -- as he performs tricks that would send most of us to the hospital.

The 8-year-old miniature breakdancer from Hawaii, known as Lil Demon, battles competitors "more than twice his size and several times his age," according to London newspaper the Daily Mail. And, despite his youth, he puts his opponents to shame.

It's no wonder this kid's moves have made him an Internet sensation, with almost half a million YouTube views.

"Wow! Totally mind blowing athletic choreography," one YouTube commenter says. "The future belongs to the young -- and with such skills it'll be a beautiful future."

Check out his ridiculous moves.

Willie Nelson Could Get Two Years In Texas Pot Bust

By Steve Elliott
From http://www.tokeofthetown.com/

WillieNelson.jpeg
Photo: All Access
Willie Nelson could be sentenced to between six months and two years for being busted with six ounces of marijuana on Friday.
Thanks to our fearless Border Patrol, music legend Willie Nelson, 77, could face up to two years in prison for his marijuana possession arrest, according to a criminal defense attorney in Austin.

The attorney told website TMZ that Willie's arrest for six ounces of weed at a Border Patrol checkpoint could get the singer six months minimum and up to two years in prison.

However, ace L.A. pot attorney Bruce Margolin -- who's also director of the Los Angeles chapter of NORML, the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws -- said that Willie might dodge prison time if he could convince a jury that he just forgot the pot was on the bus.

Margolin believes Nelson should say the pot was California-grown, with California, of course, being the first of 15 states which have legalized the medicinal use of cannabis.

The bust went down at the Sierra Blanca, Texas checkpoint after Nelson's tour bus pulled in Friday morning and a Border Patrol officer smelled marijuana through the vehicle's open door.

Nelson, one of three people arrested, said the pot belonged to him. He was briefly held on a $2,500 bond before being released.

"It's kind of surprising, but I mean we treat him like anybody else," said Hudspeth County Sheriff Arvin West. If by "surprising," Sheriff West means "I'm a fucking moron if I didn't already know Willie smokes weed," then yeah, right. "Surprising."

Two days later, in a statement to website CelebStoner.com, Nelson called on the United States to start a new political party based on the legalization of marijuana.

"There's the Tea Party," Nelson wrote in an email. "How about the Teapot Party? Our motto: We lean a little to the left... Tax it, regulate it and legalize it," Nelson wrote.

When Willie speaks, he makes it so. By Sunday afternoon, a Facebook page for the Teapot Party had already been created. The page already had almost 7,000 followers Monday morning.

"Stop the border wars over drugs," Nelson wrote. "Why should the drug lords make all the money? Thousands of lives will be saved."

Stoner comedian Tommy Chong has already endorsed Willie's Teapot Party. "If Willie gets behind something, you know it's going to be big and in your face," Chong told CelebStoner. "Any pot party is a wonderful idea."

How to use AirPrint with any printer

By: Zach Epstein

Apple’s latest iOS update finally adds AirPrint to iOS devices, bringing wireless printing capabilities to the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. That’s the good news. The bad news is that in order to use AirPrint, you need a compatible printer. Since very few printers are compatible at this point in time, odds are pretty good that yours isn’t one of them. Don’t worry, though — that’s where hobbyist hackers come in.
If you own a Mac [update for Windows PCs added below] and a printer, you can use AirPrint. In fact, your printer doesn’t even have to be wireless. A simple new hack using an OS X app dubbed AirPrint Hacktivator will enable printing via AirPrint for nearly anyone in a matter of minutes. Hit the jump for a guide that will get you up and running in no time.

1. Download the latest version of AirPrint Hacktivator
2. Unzip the AirPrint Hacktivator to your desktop or Applications folder, then run it
3. Slide the toggle switch in the app to ON, then enter your administrator password when prompted
4. Click OK to confirm
5. Now, go to System Preferences -> Print & Fax
6. Click the minus symbol to remove your printer, then add it back and check the box share it on your network (see video below for instructions)

You’re now ready to use AirPrint from your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch running iOS 4.2 or later. Just remember that your Mac must be on and connected to your network in order for your hacktivated AirPrint to work.

UPDATE: BGR reader Andre just sent us an email to let us know that German blog Macerkopf has an app that will let Windows users hack their PCs to enable AirPrint as well. Check out the translated post for more details and make sure you download the English version of the hack if you want to get in on the action.

Cat Adopts Traditional Snack, a Baby Squirrel, Teaches It to Purr
Their species are mortal enemies, but a mama cat has adopted a baby squirrel in Carthage, Mississippi, nursing it along with her own kittens.

The squirrel, now named Rocky, fell from a tree, so the cat's owner just stuck the little guy in with the kittens. Rocky thrived. Rocky adapted. Now, Rocky purrs. It's a heart-warming tale about acceptance. Or a sign of the apocalypse. One of those.

Clever Bike Lock Can Climb a Light Pole (Video)

by Stephen Messenge

from: http://www.treehugger.com/

bike climbs pole photo

When it comes to thwarting bike thieves, even the best bike-locks can't guarantee your cycle won't get jacked. But here's a simple idea -- instead of chaining up your ride to an object at ground level, imagine if you had a lock that could hoist it high overhead, safely out of reach from would-be robbers. Well, that's exactly what gave one group of German designers the bright idea to create a bike lock that can climb a light pole.

In this video from the German company Conrad, a group of designers fashion a bike lock that can scale light-poles. The invention looks fairly simply: some inline-skate wheels, fixed onto a metal ring with a small motor. In a matter of seconds, the clever contraption transforms your bike from a tempting target for bike thieves into a logistical challenge few crooks would have the courage to undertake -- unless, of course, they moonlight as coconut collectors.

Inventiveness aside, the pole-climbing bike lock probably won't put an end to cycle thievery as we know it -- but it does make for a cool concept. For starters, the prototype in the video doesn't appear to be able to adapt to poles of varying circumference, meaning it might just work on those types of streetlights. Secondly, each pole could really only hold one bike at a time, lest a 'double-parking' type of situation were to arise. And finally, unless the contraption really cinches-down in place, a rope might just be enough to award a determined thief both bike and high-tech climbing lock with little trouble.

The idea is reminiscent of another bike-storage concept covered here a while back -- the bike tree. Instead of holding just one bike reasonably, this design allows for the safe keeping of four cycles at a time while providing more security with a coded access system.

Whether or not we see such climbing bike-locks on the market anytime soon, with so many inventive minds coming up with ways to make cycling a more practical alternative for getting around, things are looking up -- even if there's no bike up there to block the view yet.

Koostik iPhone Stereo Dock Uses Zero Electricity (Video)

by Jaymi Heimbuch

koostik iphone dock image

Image via Koostik

If you're looking for an iPhone speaker dock that is energy efficient, you'll be hard pressed to find something that uses less than the Koostik. It uses zero. Made entirely of solid wood, it amplifies the sound coming from the iPhone's built-in speaker, giving you louder music without needing to plug anything in.

Koostik states that there's some types of music that works better than others.

KOOSTIK is not intended as a replacement to electronic amplifiers in all situations. If you're into Heavy Metal at high volume or heavy sub base sounds, KOOSTIK may not be your cup of tea. But if you like intimate vocals and instrumentals in relaxed settings, KOOSTIK will blow you away (gently of course).

It certainly uses fewer materials and a simpler manufacturing process than the Phonofone we saw back in 2007.

While it comes in a few different types of wood -- walnut, cherry and birdseye maple -- there's no mention as to whether or not these are FSC woods sustainably sourced.

Taylor Swift's Sexy Shirtless Tattooed Serenade by Baby Oiled Dane Cook! (VIDEO)

Taylor Swift got quite a surprise last night on 'the Tonight Show with Jay Leno'. Comedian Dane Cook threw off his shirt, strapped on his guitar and serenaded her with the 'We Love You Taylor' song, which is sure to be a #1 download on iTunes this holiday season...or not, but it was kinda funny and cute. And Dane appears to have (temp) tattooed Taylor's pretty face on his chest, which is awesome.

Seven Pieces of Furniture Made of Old Bicycles

Bicycle recycling doesn’t mean greasy work in your garage. Custom-made creations that’ll brighten up any home, bar, school or office are available.

Recycling old bicycles usually means fixing together old parts to form “new” bicycles that look even older than the originals. However, a few creative bicycle artists prove that the bicycle lends itself to being repurposed into sleek and stylish furniture that can or can’t be in your face about its humble beginnings. In either case, bicycle parts have never been so in vogue!
7) Book shelves

This wall-mounted shelf is ideal for people who want their furniture to grow with their needs. Just have one book in your shelf? Then it will be slim, looking like a line on the wall. Got some more books, CDs or more bulky items? No problem; your shelf will be able to accommodate those, too, and start looking like a more traditional shelf.

We’re talking about ElasticShelf, made by System Design Studio in Barcelona, Spain. This shelf unit can be used in the home or the office and is made out of recycled bicycle tires that are suspended between two used furniture legs — a simple idea that’ll keep you pumped for some time.

6) Tables

This side table, called “Vector,” lets you forget that you’re looking at old bicycle parts, so sleek is its design. It was created by bike furniture designer Andy Gregg, who is currently the only designer in the world to work exclusively in recycled bicycle parts, and is made from professional-level bicycle rim sections. It comes with either a clear or smoked glass top, but we’d go clear so that visitors can admire the construction from all angles!

The “Modulus” side table, above, does not hide its origins, instead cleverly integrating bicycle spokes into its design. It is made from bent and welded chrome-plated bicycle rims, and the top comes in either glass or acrylic.
5) Coat racks

A coat rack is not what comes to mind when thinking about recycling old bicycle parts for furniture. Luckily, Gregg thinks outside the box. His coat rack uses bicycle frame tubes and wheel rim sections. It certainly looks sturdier than many coat hangers we have seen!
4) Barstools

It is as barstools that the shiny, metallic spokes of bicycles seem to be utilized best. They’ll lend a cool yet nostalgic feel to even the most sterile of bars. The two S-2 swivel barstools, above, come with pro pads and have a 13″ top and tire trim — perfect with the S-2 bar table! Here’s the S-6 barstool model with a back rest by the beach. Lovely!

Speaking of love: what couple could say no to this cozy loveseat, perfect for romantic evenings, maybe reminiscing about bicycle tours once taken together? Oh, and the Modulus Loveseat is also available with custom-made cushions in a variety of fabrics and materials.
2) Benches

From loveseat to bench is just a small step and a few necessary modifications. We just love the model in blue, above! Or how about the custom-made one below? It was commissioned by the North Star Academy High School in Marquette, MI, where it has invited students to rest since 2005.

1) Chairs
tire lawn chairs Seven Pieces of Furniture Made of Old Bicycles

Given the size of bicycles, and their tires especially, they really lend themselves to being converted into chairs. We were able to find not just one but three talented designers making bicycle tire chairs.
Lawn chairs

The amazing lawn chairs, above, are made entirely out of old bicycle tires. Notice how the pattern of the tires seems to imitate that of wicker furniture. Very cool!
These particular chairs can be found at the gardens of Sampson & Beasley in Portland, OR. But there’s a story behind them that will take us to Indonesia — Bali, to be precise. There, local groups have taken up the issue of the millions of discarded tires that are often simply left lying around (or worse, are burned) because of a lack of infrastructure to get them to landfills — or better, to be recycled. You can imagine what kind of acrid, black smoke tires produce when burned…
Luckily, those initiatives employ locals and train them in making chairs out of recycled moped and bicycle tires. The finished chairs are then shipped all over the world, but with every purchase, money goes back to the families and thus the communities of those who made them.
Needless to say, the chairs are great for the outdoors — in the garden, on the deck or patio or next to the pool — because they are sturdy, long-lasting and heavier than plastic, which will come in handy when the next storm rolls around. If you are interested, you can order them here.

Lounge chairs

Being off your rocker — in this chair — might not be so bad. Though made out of recycled car tires and thus not really fitting on our list strictly speaking, it should theoretically be possible to create it out of old bicycle tires as well, given that the car tires are cut into smaller strips in any case.
tired lounge Seven Pieces of Furniture Made of Old Bicycles
Image: Leo Kempf, used with permission
“Tired Lounge” is the brainchild of designer Leo Kempf and originates from his experiment with rubber as a material for furniture. The result? A comfortable lounge chair that sits anyone from a baby to a tall adult; the designer is 6’2″ and sits in the chair comfortably. According to a description on his website, the “soft rubber was cleaned, coated, cut into strips, stretched and woven.” The simple curve shape is intended to give the chair an appearance of floating. Says Mr. Kempf: “The chair was a fun, experimental project that turned out quite nicely. Its bold shape with the tire texture make the chair really stand out.”
Bike rack chair

If you’re thinking, “Hey, where’s the bike?” in this photo, you have to think just a bit beyond the bicycle. The chair is made of old Chicago bike racks and is another ingenious creation by Gregg. There are many other great bicycle chair models in Gregg’s shop. We especially like “Milano,” shown top, because of its funky colors and the fact that it comes with a horn. You never know when that may come in handy… Meanwhile below is the “Vector” lounge chair.

If you’re working in a bicycle shop or have had enough of simply repairing old bikes, it’s time to either get creative or donate some raw materials. There will surely be bike lovers who don’t want to only sit on their bikes but also decorate their houses with them, especially after going through our list. There’s more out there, and we’re sure, more creative bike furniture and accessories to come in the future.
Special thanks to Andy Gregg of Bike Furniture Design, Remi Melander and Helbert S. Ferreira of System Design Studio and Leo Kempf of Leo Kempf Design for kindly granting photo permissions.

Bueller? Principal Pulls a Rooney, Invades Sick Kids' House

From: http://gothamist.com/

111810jones.jpg

Principal Ernest Jackson runs a tight ship at the Chester Academy up there in Orange County. And when a parent calls in to say her two boys are "sick," he sees no reason to take the explanation at face value. So, just like fictional Principal Ed Rooney—the heroic, determined protagonist of the Hollywood epic Ferris Bueller's Day Off—Jackson saddled up and went to personally verify that Michael DiQuattro's two sons were indeed too sick to learn. For that, he may face criminal charges.

DiQuattro says that his wife called in one morning this week to report that that their two sons, ages 12 and 16, would not be attending classes that day due to illness. A likely story! And how could Principal Jackson even be sure that was really the mom's voice? ABC 7 reports that Jackson allegedly went to the DiQuattro home accompanied by the school's guidance counselor, and let himself in. He found the two loafers asleep in their beds—or, at least, what appeared to be two boys sleeping in their beds. Some of these kids are adept at arranging pillows and mannequins under blankets to resemble sleeping children, while they gallivant off to lunch at fancy restaurants masquerading as Abe Froman, Sausage King of Chester.

According to DiQuattro, the guidance counselor left, but Jackson remained at the house in an attempt to motivate the truants to attend class. Instead, they called their mom. "He wasn't invited, didn't knock, didn't let anyone know that he was in the house until he got upstairs," DiQuattro tells ABC 7. "My kids were in their underwear, again you are talking about a 12-year-old and a 16-year-old, where does he get the right to violate my children's rights?" (Incidentally, the actor who played Principal Ed Rooney in the movie, Jeffrey Jones, is now a registered sex offender.)

We called Jackson's office this morning and the receptionist told us he would not be in today. Let's just assume he's gravely ill and there's no point in going to his house to check on him. In his weakened condition, he could take a nasty spill down the stairs and subject himself to further school absences!

Here's the ABC 7 segment. It's worth watching for DiQuattro's outraged interview:

The foundation of all the footage (and audio) was taken from 9/20. Additional shots are from the 9/21, 10/12 and 10/13 shows and all are from tapehead2's HD master files.
Thanks to all those who shared their footage for this project. Thanks once again to the HVR team, MOB for the appropriate EQ work and Big Ed for checking and correcting, and for the quick turn around. Thanks to Chris for the artwork, you always have the coolest sigs on the forum. Thanks to Rick B. for this and 30+ years of recording shows in Chicago.
But the biggest thanks of all goes to my new friend tapehead2 (TH2) for shooting these shows so brilliantly. After posting the initial clips on YouTube I contacted TH2 to see if a multi-camera edit was ever considered. The response was that TH2 wished for the shows to be shared "as is". I decided to cut together a few songs just to show TH2 the possibilities and after watching them on YouTube agreed to send me the master HD footage. The 9/20 and 9/21 shows cut together beautifully, but I still wished that we had a few more shots covered. Since TH2 had tickets to the Nassau Coliseum shows and was planning on shooting them as well I offered some camera suggestions, a lot of them in fact, to get some of the shots I still wanted. The dude abides. So thanks to TH2 for the ultimate sacrifice of not being able to enjoy these shows like the rest of us have. That's a hefty price, especially when considering that Pink Floyd isn't on the top of TH2's favorites list. Perhaps inspired by being embraced by the PF "communities" has changed that? And of course thanks to Roger for putting on such a kick ass show.
This was great fun and a labor of love. The biggest challenge was not in the synching up of all the various shows. Since this is all run to a precise click track synchronization was fairly easy. The challenge was finding matching choreography from shot to shot while at the same time retaining my shot preference and length as well. I'm sure you'll find a few transitions that reveal such continuity blunders, but I'll bet that there's even more that you don't catch. It's amazing how much did actually work. It's all part of the fun and we hope you enjoy the product of our collaboration.
Released on Veteran's Day (November 11, 2010) and dedicated to all fallen loved ones.
Enjoy!

The 100 Hottest Pictures of Emma Watson from Around the Internet

By Adam Tod Brown
From http://funnycrave.com/

ew 7 ab112210 The 100 Hottest Pictures of Emma Watson from Around the Internet

The most recent installment of the Harry Potter movie franchise hit theaters this weekend. While we don’t have much interest in muggles and wizards and such, we have certainly grown quite fond of Emma Watson who plays, you know, the girl and stuff in all of the Harry Potter flicks.

To celebrate the release of the film and the fact that she’s been of legal gawking age for a few years now, we happily present the 100 hottest pictures of Emma Watson we could find.
