Why those hamburgers on TV look so good

A segment from the popular series "Buy Me That." We'll meet a "makeup artist for food," who surprises us all with this behind-the-scenes look at how burgers (and fries) are made to look
their best for television.

KNEEL BEFORE ZOD OR FOREVER HOLD YOUR PEACE

Get ready to cringe, folks. When the Burgers got married, some surprise guests showed up to reenact a scene from Superman II. Only a few members of the wedding party and the groom were in on it:

From the anonymous woman who sent me the video:
“This is the wedding reception of my husband’s best friend. My husband is Lex Luthor. The bride had no idea this was going to happen.” [GreatWhiteSnark]

I give it about 3 more years till every argument ends with, “Well at least I didn’t turn our special day into a Richard Donner cosplay convention, superdork.” And then he’ll say, “You said you like surprises!” And then she’ll say, “But I meant surprise me by bringing home Bill from the office for a threesome.”

Classic WWE Moments: Macho Man Randy Savage Interviews

Macho Man Randy Savage Interviews

This week in WWE classic moments, TPS profiles the one and only Macho Man Randy Savage. Known for his flashy outfits, his beautiful manager Elizabeth, and his patented elbow drop from the top ropes, Savage’s Macho Man persona quickly became one of the wwe’s top draws of the late 80’s and early 90’s.

Savage was one of, if not the most, charismatic wrestlers of his time. He was a two time WWE champion, a onetime intercontinental champion, and a four time WCW champion. Even with all these accomplishment in the ring, fans may have truly loved the Macho Man for his out of ring charisma.

Here is a montage of classic Macho Man Randy Savage interviews showcasing what the Macho Madness was all about.

Surf's up as biggest waves in five years come to Hawaii after North Pacific storm

By Daily Mail Reporter

Thousands of spectators and surfers are flocking to Hawaii's beaches to see the biggest waves in years crash ashore.

Heavy traffic backed up for miles yesterday along roads leading to Oahu's North Shore. Some of the world's most daring surfers took on the powerful and dangerous waves, which forecasters say could reach heights of 50ft (15 metres) by tomorrow.

The surf grew so large that a few beaches on Oahu and Maui were closed because lifeguards feared inexperienced sightseers could drown, according to state officials.

Two surfers ride a huge wave at Waimea Bay on the north shore of Oahu in Haleiwa, Hawaii, yesterday

'After the water comes in, it can drag you back out with it,' said Eric Basta, a manager at Surf N Sea in Haleiwa. 'Be mindful of how powerful the surf really is.'

As violent as the waves were, they are expected to growth in strength, according to the National Weather Service. The high waves are expected to continue throughout Wednesday.

A legendary big wave surfing contest, the Quicksilver in Memory of Eddie Aikau, may be held today for the first time since 2004 if waves reach a minimum of 40 feet (12 meters), organisers said. The event is only held in perfect conditions, and the waves weren't quite big or smooth enough on Monday.

'The swell energy is continuing to grow, and the waves may get larger,' said Robert Ballard, a forecaster for the National Weather Service. 'A large storm over the North Pacific has sent a wave train at us.'

Hawaii hasn't seen such large waves since 2004 or 1998, he said. Teams of tow-in surfers - who use jet watercraft to race into waves too big to paddle - are flying to Maui from Brazil, South Africa and Australia, The Honolulu Advertiser reported.

Prisoner dupes guards, grows pot in cell

From: http://www.upi.com/

PORTLAND, England, Dec. 7 (UPI) -- A British prisoner convinced guards his marijuana plants were tomato plants -- and they even allowed him to decorate one as a Christmas tree, a source said.

Mohamed Jalloh, 28, of Brent, North London, grew his pot plants at Verne Prison in Portland, Dorset, in southern England, and for five months, guards admired his gardening, The Sun reported Saturday.

But after another inmate told guards what the plants really were, they checked out photos of marijuana plants on the Internet, and the jig was up.

"You could see the plants from the grounds, as his cell looks on to the education department and communal outside area," a source said. "They were on show for the world to see."

Jalloh is serving eight years for supplying drugs.

The Most Psychedelic Lake on Earth

From: http://www.environmentalgraffiti.com/

Spotted Lake in blue
Looks like a painting, doesn’t it?
Image via bored-bored

The Spotted Lake near the city of Osoyoos in British Columbia, right at the Washington state border, is not the result of someone’s too vivid imagination but of the many different mineral deposits found in it: The lake is rich in calcium, sodium and magnesium sulphate (Epsom salts) and even silver and titanium. It is called Kliluk by the Okanagan Indians who have known of the lake’s therapeutic powers for generations.

The lake changes colour throughout the year and therefore is beautiful to look at in any season. But it is only in the summer from about June to mid September that the lake water level lowers due to evaporation and reveals the “walkways” and different pools, the lake’s “spots.” Osoyoos in fact means “narrowing of the waters” in the Okanagan language.

The region around Osoyoos Lake is one of Canada’s hottest areas, with summer temperatures reaching 38 degrees Celsius (100 Fahrenheit) regularly. No wonder it is known for its vineyards and recreational appeal, letting the town’s population of around 5,000 increase quite a bit during the summer months. Especially pensioners value the relatively milder winters and hot summers – the average age of Oyosoos’ population is 59 years!

For the First Nations’ tribes, Spotted Lake was always a sacred site known for its healing powers, which they would use to cure ailments like warts, skin diseases, body aches and battle wounds. In the early 20th century, the lake and the land surrounding it became the property of Ernest Smith and his family who had the idea in the ‘70s to capitalise on it and build a spa.

Looks like an amoeba:

This would have meant digging and heavy commercialisation of the area; a fact the Native Indians were not happy with. For more than 20 years since 1979, they tried buying the lake and its surroundings but reached a compromise with the Smith family only in 2001: For several hundred thousand dollars, they bought 22 hectares, paid for partly by the First Nations and party by the Indian Affairs Department.

During WWI, the lake’s minerals were even used to make ammunition!

Today, the Osoyoos Indian Reservation with its about 370 members is one of the only Indian Bands in British Columbia with virtually no unemployment, and self-sufficiency on the horizon. Spotted Lake is still private property that visitors can either admire from Highway 3 (8 km or 5.5 miles west of Osoyoos) or at closer range after obtaining permission from the Okanagan tribe.

Wireworld's Platinum Starlight HDMI cable is only $1,000, better than your HDMI cable

You idiot. Where did you buy those cables? Walmart? You probably think you're getting the whole 1080p, don't you! Boy, you couldn't be more wrong. What the big box doesn't want you to know, with their cheap-ass $150 cables is that there are, um, waves and some, uh... electromagnetic spectrats. And they eat your pixels! Yeah, that's right! Pixel-eating EM spectrats! Not even making this stuff up. How much did you spend on that TV? $1,000? You did buy that $1,800 power cable from Furutech, right? Well, don't you think you should spend at least that much on the all-important cables that are going to funnel the dynamic 1080p transmissions from your Blu-ray player to your TV? Here, try this Platinum Starlight HDMI cable from Wireworld. It has a patent-pending DNA Helix conductor design formed by the gods themselves out of 24 solid silver conductors. Hell, $1,000 is probably a bargain for one of these one meter cables. Your eyes are worth it, after all. You're welcome.

The wonderful world of Walt Disney

On December 5, 1901 Walter Elias "Walt" Disney was born in Chicago, Illinois.

Little did anyone know that in the next 65 years, the world of entertainment would never be the same. With his brother, Roy, Walt Disney formed Walt Disney Productions that would eventually give us some of the most famous cartoon characters of all time, from Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck, created in the early years of animation, to the 21st century digital stars like Woody the cowboy and Buzz Lightyear.

Since Snow White, its first animated feature released in 1937, Disney has created over 300 characters that operate over 100 brands, creating a business worth $4.4 billion a year.

A popular showman as well as a innovator in animation and feature film production, Walt Disney became the father of the cartoon genre, picking up a huge number of awards along the way, including 59 Academy Award nominations (a record) and winning a total of 26 Oscars.

What's more, his company has come a long way since Steam Boat Willie, becoming a worldwide institution in itself with theme parks and resorts in the US, Japan, France and China.

Even since his death in 1966, technological advancements in animation and numerous shifts in the movie industry have failed to impact on Walt Disney's success.

You will struggle to find a single person on earth who has never come across at least one of Disney's many characters. And the best way to sum up the impact that Walt Disney's brainchild has had is to say that it's impossible to imagine the world without it.

10 Crazy Exteriors Gone Outside the Box

house-cypherone-2006

When cookie-cutter planned communities are the standard, it takes balls to step outside the box with some seriously daring design.

A crazy concept can become the trademark of the neighborhood or the bane of the block. Here are 10 monuments to end the monotony, built and owned by those not afraid to buck the trends.

1. The Tree House in Cincinnati

'Tron Legacy' poster spot on

By Ace Fernandez

"The game has changed."

No kidding.

Behold the poster for "Tron Legacy," one of Disney's most anticipated 2010 releases:

Tronlegacy_525x739

My gut says: I like it. It focuses on the light cycles, which every kid who devoured the original film (such as yours truly) watched over and over and dreamed of somehow playing in real life. This poster -- as with the recent teaser trailer -- makes you feel like that may be possible. And the motion and velocity built into the image -- coming right at us! -- emphasizes the film's 3D bona fides and video-game slickness.

If this film is on your radar, then this poster does the trick in ramping up your eagerness to see the souped-up 2.0 version.

And the tagline -- THE GAME HAS CHANGED -- is simple, effective, evocative. Bam.

Coffee could help cut prostate cancer risk, says study

Coffee
Some of coffee's components can have beneficial effects

Drinking coffee could help to cut the risk of advanced prostate cancer, a US study suggests.

It found the heaviest consumers had a 60% lower risk of aggressive tumours than men who did not drink any coffee.

Coffee has an effect on the way the body breaks down sugar and also on sex hormone levels - both of which have been linked to prostate cancer.

The Harvard Medical School study was presented to an American Association for Cancer Research conference.

We would not recommend that men cultivate a heavy coffee drinking habit on the back of this research
Helen Rippon
The Prostate Cancer Charity

Researcher Dr Kathryn Wilson said: "Very few lifestyle factors have been consistently associated with prostate cancer risk, especially with risk of aggressive disease, so it would be very exciting if this association is confirmed in other studies."

The researchers are unsure which components of coffee might have a positive effect.

However, it is known to contain many biologically active compounds, such as minerals and antioxidants, which limit damage to the tissues caused by the release of energy in cells.

The researchers documented the coffee intake of nearly 50,000 men every four years from 1986 to 2006.

They stress that more work is needed before any firm conclusion can be drawn about the beneficial effects of coffee.

But, at the very least, Dr Wilson said: "Our results do suggest there is no reason to stop drinking coffee out of any concern about prostate cancer."

Mixed results

Helen Rippon, of The Prostate Cancer Charity, said previous research on the effect of caffeinated drinks on prostate cancer had produced mixed results.

She said the latest study suggested drinking coffee might have a beneficial effect but more work was needed to draw firm conclusions.

She said: "We would not recommend that men cultivate a heavy coffee drinking habit on the back of this research, not least because a high caffeine intake can cause other health problems.

"However, men who already enjoy a regular cup of coffee should be reassured that they do not need to give this up for the sake of their prostate."

Jessica Harris, of the charity Cancer Research UK, said: "A number of other studies looking at coffee and prostate cancer have found that drinking coffee does not affect the risk of prostate cancer."
