WTF -- Wider Disneyland Rides for Wider Rider Asses?

David Koenig, the Aliso Viejo author of Mouse Tales: A Behind-the-Ears Look at Disneyland, Mouse Under Glass: Secrets of Disney Animation & Theme Parks and More Mouse Tales: A Closer Peek Backstage at Disneyland has an interesting MousePlanet post that features an unnamed source saying the just-completed, five-week refurbishment of vehicles that carry guests on Peter Pan's Flight at the Magic Kingdom was done for one reason:

To fit those guests' fatter asses.

"Depending who you talk to, it is because guests have gotten bigger, or the wish to increase the number that can be loaded into a boat to increase guest capacity," shared the source. "But a lot of ride operators are saying this is a result from Small World--a trend to accommodate ever-bigger guests. WDI (Imagineering) has been keeping quiet."

To be fair, the post goes on to make a better argument for the cars being widened to allow more family members to ride together, allowing for fewer backups in the line of one of the park's most popular rides.

Farther down, Koenig has other items of interest on: Disney's lack of remorse over state ballot initiatives going down in flames; the quiet return of hourly and salaried cast members who'd been laid off; and changes to food carts at the park that a source ties to the sticky fingers of today's employees, who apparently are not screened as thoroughly as past cast members.
