Samuel L. Jackson out as Nick Fury in Iron Man 2?

Heavyweight actor Samuel L. Jackson, whose cameo as Nick Fury at the end of last summer's Iron Man movie pointed the way to future Marvel Studios flicks like The Avengers, says he may not appear in the Shellhead sequel.

Negotiations with the studio have broken down, Jackson tells Hero Complex, because "there seems to be an economic crisis in the Marvel Comics world."

"Maybe I won't be Nick Fury," Jackson said. "Maybe somebody else will be Nick Fury or maybe Nick Fury won't be in it."

Marvel issued a "no comment" in the face of what might be a negotiating tactic on Jackson's part, but the Nick Fury part in the Ultimate Marvel comics clearly was based on the actor. Switching out actors -- as Marvel did with Terrence Howard, who played Col. James "Rhodey" Rhodes in Iron Man but will be replaced by Don Cheadle for the sequel -- could dampen the appeal of crossover story lines designed to solidify the on-screen Marvel Universe.
