Photos of the new 370Z convertible have been leaked and Road & Track has obtained an illustration based on them. As you can see, the appearance of the 2-seat sports car hardly suffers without a roof. Chief product specialist John Yukawa told us that he wanted to keep the sporty essence of the 370Z intact with the convertible, so he opted for a power-operated cloth roof instead of a folding hardtop. This means the open-air Z will weigh only a hundred or so pounds more than the base car, so we can expect the car will hit 60 mph in the low 5s. Power will continue to be sent rearward by a 3.7-liter V-6 that produces 332 bhp.

Not much information is available yet, but the body structure has been strengthened to ensure that the car's exceptional handling is not sacrificed. This means it will be a bona fide competitor for the far more expensive Porsche Boxster. The 370Z Roadster comes with a 7-speed automatic transmission or a 6-speed manual with optional Synchro Rev Matching. The car is expected to be priced around $36,000, roughly the same price as last year's 350Z Roadster.
