Cadilac confirms CTS coupe and wagon

DETROIT — Cadillac will launch production of three new models — the CTS Coupe, the CTS Sport Wagon and the redesigned SRX crossover — in 2009. The all-new CTS Sport Wagon will be formally unveiled in October at the 2008 Paris Auto Show, while the production version of the CTS Coupe is expected to make its public debut in January at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show.

Cadillac confirmed that the CTS Sport Wagon and the redesigned SRX will go into production in spring 2009, while the CTS coupe will follow in summer. All three cars will go on sale next year as 2010 models.

A spokesman for the brand also confirmed that a 2.9-liter turbodiesel from VM Motori, intended primarily for European customers, also may be offered in U.S. editions of the new CTS coupe and wagon, both of which will be assembled in Lansing, Michigan.

The all-new SRX is considerably smaller than the current SRX crossover vehicle, which shares its underpinnings with the CTS and STS. Its design will be based heavily on the Provoq concept crossover, while its underpinnings will be shared with the next-generation Chevrolet Equinox and the all-new Saab 9-4X.

The Provoq and the CTS Coupe concepts were displayed earlier this year at the 2008 Detroit show. The CTS wagon has not been seen publicly.

What this means to you: Cadillac is deep into a major product overhaul that could help spur a revival of the brand both in the States and overseas. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent
